    Such majestic animals! My entire family are "horse people". Dad's family are Scottish and Clydesdales are of course their favorite breed. He so loved to see them whether working or prancing in a parade, his eyes would mist up but he'd be grinning from ear to ear. Thank you for sharing.

    It's a traditional thing for showing draught horses. By trimming their tails, you ensure that the hair would not get caught in the chains or reins when ploughing, etc.

    The horses are beautiful only one thing :they should have a nice long tail. They have hairs on the tail why does that have to go. You can also see the musculature if you keep the tail aside for a moment .The horses are beautiful yet have a question they have a Curl coat?

    Yes, it is called a parade, in order to award premium status to some stallions. It takes place every year in Northern Ireland.

    It is their coat "soaped up"to give them a bulkier appearance. Many cattle show-people do it too. It is very common when showing Cydesdales in Ireland and Scotland.

    Do they foam and bubble-up if it rains? I've got this comical vision of a great bubbly mass of a stallion prancing in front of the judges. Is it really soap that's used? Can it be good for their skin if it is?

    Sorry, I don't really understand what you are getting at there. What torture are you talking about? In relation to their tails: the tails are shaved to the dock, but the dock is left completely entire.

    The parade is held at a livestock market/mart, and there is no grass. It also takes place in the spring, and in which case it can be too wet to have horses on grass.

    Why mess with the tail? Makes the horse seem unbalanced. Is there any practical reason for it? Surely doesn’t help the horse manage flies back there?

  • @tadhgpheaitwillie

    @tadhgpheaitwillie

    It is traditional, because when ploughing, the hair would get tangled in the lines and chains, and therefore the tail was clipped.

    Tail docking needs to be banned I hate it

  • @tadhgpheaitwillie

    @tadhgpheaitwillie

    I agree. I would never dock a horse's tail. It is banned in Ireland and in Britain and Northern Ireland. These horses's tails in the video are fully intact, just on a point of order, and the hair is shaved down to the tailbone.
