MythBusters: The Side Of Jamie Hyneman You Never Knew Existed - Extended Cut

We’ve covered this topic more than once over the years, so here’s all our coverage combined into one extended video!
Jamie Hyneman was always the quieter, more reserved half of the Mythbusters team, while Adam Savage was arguably the more charismatic of the two. But although Jamie might have appeared pretty low-key on the show, there's been a lot more going on for him, off-camera. Here's the untold truth of Jamie Hyneman.

Jamies JHC at finland, I met him there multiple times and he is the most down to earth and intelligent man ive met. Had a good hour long discussion about projects with him when me and my friend went to ask for his opinion about a matter in our project. He at no point felt like he wanted us gone and went off about different projects with us matching his excitement about things, it was one of those best case scenarios for meeting a childhood hero. He apparently likes finland quite alot for the matching mentality. xD

I enjoyed the Mythbusters and I have to say that Hyneman and Savage complemented each other in this series. One is of the more closed type and the other is more extroverted... that is usually a good combination in entertainment. I've been following with pleasure Adam Savage's Tested for a while now and it's a fact that Savage likes to stay on screen, but I'm glad to see both Hyneman and Savage doing well.

Hyneman is a national treasure, as are they all. My understanding is that he and Savage weren't then and aren't now the best of friends. Not hostile toward one another, obviously both are very professional, but they weren't synchronous. I feel like there's got to be a Mythbusters reunion though. Everyone's getting up there in years, time keeps moving along, a special one-off episode would be fantastic!

Correct, they were not friends and they didn't socialize in private, so no weekend barbeques at each others places. lol They were arguing a lot behind the scenes, yelling at each other disagreeing about almost everything, but they always made it work in the end, so we the viewers, could have some great shows to watch. I think it was Adam that said some years ago, that they hadn't been talking with each other for several years, and they didn't feel any urge to do so.

Adam also revealed more details about Blendo. Basically Jamie did Jamie things and optimized the simple mechanics past what the staff for the robot fights would think possible in the weight class. The safety measures of the arena where simply not up to the task of preventing enemy robots and parts of enemy robots getting flung into the audience. Happened 2 times, luckily no one got hurt. But it was enough to arrange them dropping out voluntarily. Adam also partially describes the setup on how Jamie ground up the big fly wheel in Blendo to the necessary precision and how to start it. Hint: It took a bigger suspended rotary tool setup that worked the thing for days making scary noises.

Before Mythbusters (but not immediately before, as he was at ILM), Adam had been employed by Jamie. Discovery had wanted a more dynamic co-host to play off Jamie. Both Jamie and Adam joined Tested, which had been running for a couple of years. I think they bought into the company of Tested creators Will and Norm. After a period of time, Jamie found it wasn't his cup of tea and Adam's name was added to the title of the KZread channel, possibly due to the financial arrangements/ownership of the company.

7:32 In point of fact... There was a YT channel unrelated to Mythbusters called a different name (I cant remember) . Savage joined and everyone agreed on the name change, it was a growing channel at the time though I think. Clearly it would be very unlikely for the channel to have 6.5M, if it weren't for Savage, but he didn't create it. He didn't make his own because (no doubt) he was uninterested in the learning curve and, why the heck not?🤷‍♂But _that does_ mean that he needed the channel as it was... But I'm sure Adam would be the first to say he did not start the channel.

Dutch is nothing like Russian, you know, Germanic and Slavic languages are totally different, but... teach Dutch dudes some Russian and most of them will sound very okay. It is the way we talk. It is our sound. Yanks will need to work their ass off, we Dutch simply repeat the Russian examples. Sure Russians hear we are foreigners, why not, but I wonder if Hyneman is a Dutch or German family name. He could have an advantage, having a good sound already, before learning Russian language.

Jamie always struck me as a behind-the-scenes guy who got thrust in front of the camera because someone knew he was the best fit for Adam's energetic enthusiasm. It was always interesting to see both of them work out problems and come up with practical experiments. Jamie's low-key practical approach to everything made it even more entertaining when he would occasionally get excited about an experiment or ecstatic over the outcome. I didn't know about most of his other work, but it doesn't surprise me that he continues to put his big brain to work solving real-world problems.

M5 and M7 was in San Francisco, but they often rented the runway and the hanger. Heck they went there so many times, it would have been easier to make Alameda Naval base their headquarters. Especially with all those large hangers and warehouses they could turn into their workshops. Also Jamie's wife worked at the nearby high school, they used their pool facilites and even football field. I think he even has the high school's bumper sticker on his toyota pickup.

The fact that this video references battlebots instead of robot wars, because battlebots didn't even exist when blendo was first built, puts into question the validity of the rest of the content in this video. You didn't even include footage of blendo or robot wars. Hard fail, very poorly researched.

That's soo funny. Big fan of MB and Tested from the beginning. Never once (not that it mattered) occurred to me that they were gay.

Battle Bot's sounds lame, who in the heck were they marketing it to kids? I prefer our UK name for it. Robot Wars! Don't get me wrong, it was shown very much in a fam friendly time slot in the UK and I was _sort of_ a child!🤣

Why do you need a text-to-voice AI to read this? That uncanny valley almost-realistic quality to the voice is so unnerving to me.

Adam Savage didn't create Tested. And it was arguably a more interesting KZread channel before it became Adam Savage TV. Not that it's BAD now.

I'm a fan of both Jamie and Adams. Obviously huge difference of comparison. The two. I obviously you mentioned Adam is more of a social media whore lol. He likes the spotlight. And that kind of goes with his character. He's outgoing. Totally get Jamie's character. Well not character but you know lol. Him being in the background or antisocial fits his personality. And obviously we don't see what he has been doing because we see Adam on social media. At least we know James is doing good and doing a lot of good things and enjoying his life behind the camera where he is probably more comfortable. I do like the trio of the show but Adam and Jamie was obviously the best of the show. All five or six together was great as well. I'm glad that Jamie is using his talent for good stuff. And focusing on that and not being on social media. Don't blame him. Why need the stress on social media or being in front of a camera? Just focus on your work and life
