I was Bob’s assistant during the 90’s. He was the actor inside the robot Dick Tufeld was the voice over actor.

@@tron3entertainment no. Bob had said he was trying to get hold of something life%sized to have at his autograph booths. My partner and I had a few connections through working security at conventions. We couldn’t afford a real robot, but we could the hundred or so for the cutout. First time he used it was in Las Vegas at the Comic, adult video and sci-fi convention in the early 90’s.

Correct! BUT, Bob May was the actor on the set performing the Robot moves and his lines with his scene partners. Tufeld's voice was looped (ADR'ed) in post.

Bob May would do the lines in the script, the ad-libs with Jonathan Harris and he had a switch where he turned the light on and off to match his speech. Dick Tufeld would then over dub his voice, although sometimes you can hear May's voice when Harris was talking over him.

He had a button in the claw that he pushed when he would talk ..watch the right claw when the robot talks you will see it move ...that's bob may pushing the button .

error, Tufeld was the voice, Bob May was the one 'inside' the robot.

As nimble as he was in the Bermuda suit, I find it hard to believe it was really 250 pounds.

While I watched the series, in re-runs, I thought it was a real robot!

I wish there was film of Bob lighting up with smoke pouring out of the robot!

Dick may have done the lion's share of the voice over, but any time the robot sings, that was Bob's voice.

You need to correct your video title.

Wrong! Bob was inside the robot. Dick Tufeld's voice as dubbed over Bob's voice in post production.

As a long term multi-patent holding mechanical design engineer, I question his claimed weights for the outfit - especially the top section. He looks too tall to have fit in the robot suit. I assume whoever was inside used the transparent "collar" to view the outside.

BOB MAY WAS NOT THE VOICE OF THE ROBOT, DICK TUFELD WAS. HE WAS THE MAN IN THE COSTUME. HIS VOICE WAS OVERDUBBED. GET YOUR STORY STRAIGHT. NOT KNOWING THAT BASIC FACT MAKES ME LOSE FAITH IN ANYTHING YOU PRODUCE.

Um, yeah, might want to change the title on this video. This is how misinformation spreads.
