If someone else’s kid is at your home you as the adult are responsible for the safety of that kid. You don’t just say no you can’t spend the night and go home without calling the parents of that kid or at least give him or her a ride home. No excuses whatsoever

I lived in a very safe neighborhood as well but my parents said home by 6. Sleep by 9 at that age. The mother should have been a bit more proactive about the whereabouts her kids were. 9pm daughter is heading home from a friend that they didn't have a sleep over arranged. Sleep over needed to be discussed earlier. The mother letting her leave should have drove or called mom as well. It just common courtesy. If s child ends up at your home always call or text the parent to let them know you have their kids.

Happened to me and I tried to catch the last bus at 12.01am and as it was passed midnight my daysaver was technically out of date (I was 14 years old) I had 20p and could go 1 stop, it was Sunday night close to Christmas 1 stop later and the bus driver stopped the bus and turned off the engine as I didn't get off the bus when he told me to. In the end 4 or 5 passengers lifted me up and literally put me off the bus they wanted their Sunday dinner that's how I remember it was Sunday. I got followed by a car that night, I was about 6 bus stops from home but I was young for my age and that experience was scary. I could never turn a child away from my door and not make sure they get home safely 🙏

We walk among the undetected and unarrested offenders everyday. We all need to be mindful of this because we sometimes forget, get desensitised and let our guard down. Children have an innocence that you can't help them to completely comprehend thru your eyes because they're experiencing growing up and wanting the same independence you wanted/had. You can teach them about strangers and they'll still say in a moment "just this one time, I'll be okay, it's not even 5 mins, I'll be home faster etc" then it's that one time that something terrible happens.

Keep rocking! You’re saving the children a lot of stress by keeping strange men away from your home. I did the same. It’s also a great way to weed out predators. If they can’t access your children, they probably won’t stick with you. My daughter probably gets annoyed that she isn’t allowed to spend the night at her friends’ houses, but I’m willing to endure the wrath if it means I know where she is. She also has to play outside where anyone can see/hear and she can hear me calling. Only allowed to go in one friend’s house from time to time after asking me, has a time limit to be home, and the mom and I text each other. You’re right about lessening the risk!

When my son was a teenager he told me that someone was ringing through to a public telephone box on the route from school. Another younger boy answered this on a daily basis and told my son that the friend he had made on the phone was going to leave him a gift at the telephone box. I contacted the police and they were not really concerned. *Genetic genealogy* is a powerful tool being used to crack *SO MANY!!! cases,* even those cases that seemed destined to remain unsolvable- sitting on a shelf somewhere (hopefully that is... since evidence and the case files have this bizarre habit of disappearing...) collecting dust, pushed to the side. Meanwhile, memories fade, immediate family and friends pass away, and an awkward, uncomfortable impasse is reached. I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to keep waiting and waiting. Lives are often derailed in one way or another; it becomes 'normal' to talk about everything as either ★BEFORE★ the murder or ☆AFTER☆ the murder. I would struggle with the generic press releases insisting the case remains "ACTIVE" ~conveniently preventing the release of crucial documents/evidence/case files for other people with fresh eyes, less bias, and perhaps a different skill set that could be of immense value!

Its your responsibility as an adult to make sure kids that leave your house, make it home safely. Especially when they are leaving after dark.

Thank you so much for covering Ryan’s case. I originally wrote to you before they had found his killer. There was little to no coverage on his case when I first came across it.

I can’t imagine letting a 10 year old walk home alone. Why would you let her stay so freaking late if she couldn’t stay?. She should blame herself for the rest of her life along with the murderer.

People call me overprotective…but this is the type of things that I wouldn’t allow. My daughter is 16 now and I still wouldn’t let her walk alone day or night. Accidents happen as well. You can’t prepare for everything but simple things make a big impact.

It's not pleasant to acknowledge, but there have always been predators looking for prey in public places, counting on catching their victim by surprise. Parents would serve children well to instruct them to be aware of who is around them, try to keep distance, and what to do if someone tries to grab you. Teach this when they're young, so they hopefully won't become teenagers thinking they're protected from the world, and understand there is no safety if they don't have their wits about them if impaired by alcohol or drugs.
