My theory is that if you take a life boat and there is nobody dthere who remembers you you may lose your memories. Thats what I believed happened with ventus and Lauriam and Erlena

That's actually the case. Specifically, if you lose your body and then it reconstitutes, but no one is there who remembers you at the time of restoration, you lose all or the vast majority of your memories. The Master of Masters, Luxu, and the True Darkness with Maleficent say as much in Union χ. This is why Maleficent is alright in KHII whereas everyone else who took a Lifeboat pod isn't and why the Three Good Fairies were panicking about their memories returning in KHII. They knew what Maleficent had done in KHI and how she might return someday. As likely her oldest enemies on existence, they had the biggest chance of remembering her and therefore facilitating her complete restoration. Thus they sealed their memories away to prevent that from happening.

Doesn't help that most people using the lifeboat were only remembered by Xehenort and Skuld arrived when he could not even remember who he was.

A lot of misinformation here. Nobodies don't loose their memory by default. Roxas was the only one because his memories remained with Sora/Sora was a heartless only for a short time as stated by Nomura. The reason for the memory loss is using the lifeboats. Everybody who used it at that moment in the story lost their memories except for Ephemer because his lifeboat did not function properly. Ventus would be another example of this because he didn't remember anything. If Nobodies would loose their memories by default the Organization 13 would have never been possible. Also, both Lauriam and possibly Elrena were found by Xigbar and not Xemnas. He mentions to Zexion in KH2 Final Mix in a flashback how he found Marluxia. Even if they can't remember their name I am sure Luxu would and could tell them in his mischievous, playfull way. Luxus quote at the end of KH3 doesn't have to mean that he saw Ava the last time in Daybreak Town. It could easily be written as he saw here in Radiant Garden as Subject X someday, released here from her cell (as stated in the report) and helped here get away/set her in the lifeboat for another timetravel because he knew she was the true Dandelion or whatever. Luxu not knowing where she CURRENTLY is or is up to does not rule out that he met her as Subject X. But yes, Skuld is the frontrunner for Subject X right now. Her theme of stars also matches very well with Leas sun and Isas moon. There is just one thing that does not make sense and that is also the reason why I dont commit fully to the idea that Skuld is Subject X just now. If Skuld is Subjext X and she ended up in Radiant Garden when she used the lifeboat, WHY didn't they just show us how she arrived? We saw where everybody ended up but we didn't see anything about Skuld. There are just two reasons I can come up with. Number 1: Nomura and the devs think the fans are stupid and can't connect the dots and this will be used as a big reveal in the future. Number 2: Skuld is not Subject X and it's not that easy. To me Number 1 would just really, really suck. So I really hope it's number 2. But maybe I am just expecting too much from Nomura an Kingdom Hearts these days...

or option 4: not everything has to be a surprise twist, and the fact that it's properly foreshadowed means that nomura *trusts* the fans to connect the dots while he saves the reveal for when it's relevant, i.e. when subject X comes back into play.

Or option 5: Skuld is Xehanorts mom. In dark road, when describing the people he sees in his dream, he specifically points out that one looks like his mom. The only female characters that could possibly appear in his dreams are strelitzia, Elrena, and Skuld, and we also see that Xehanort’s mom had black hair, meaning Skuld.

@@pikadragon6826 This is not the case, but may be along the right lines of thinking. First, Xehanort is a descendent of Ephemer. This was originally referred to as "great great grandson" but was updated to be descendent. Either way, we know he isn't Ephemer's son. So it's more likely that Xehanort would be several generations further down from any children Ephemer (and/or Skuld) had, if we want to believe that what Xehanort says about Skuld means she's related to his mom. Second, and more importantly, is what Nomura has said in a past interview. **Q: Xehanort appears with a figure who we assume to be his mother. Is that…Skuld? Nomura: That is incorrect. However, she is related to Skuld in some way. The next title, Missing-Link, will have “bloodlines” as one of the story’s main points.** So, she's related to Skuld for sure, but what really matters is how. If his mom is a direct descendant, then we can say Skuld probably ended up with Ephemer, and not with the other Union Leaders. Perhaps his mom descended from a relative of Skuld's, and she ended up in Radiant Garden. Either way, we'll find out in Missing Link (hopefully somewhat soon). My personal theory is that she is infact Subject X. The fact we don't know where she ended up is obviously to point towards some sort of mystery as it should be abundantly clear. It also to me, seriously casts doubt on her simply arriving with Ephemer in my opinion. I feel like something definitely happened with her lifeboat when the rocks collapsed on top, but it didn't quite fail like Ephemer's did. This is my wild ass theory, but maybe she only partially time-traveled and there are two Skulds, one in the past and one in the present. Either way, we know subject X has to be a character we already have met and they are from the age of fairy tales. I'm kind of biased against it being Ava and towards it being Skuld. Unless Skuld is going to be fleshed out if she appears in Missing Link, because her just being Xehanort's great grandmother or whatever relation just feels like her character becomes kind of... pointless. Ephemer is already filling out that relation to Xehanort, so I feel like that would leave her with almost no greater impact on the plot of KH and as a half-baked character. I mean, that's possible, but it's lame. I feel like she needs something geneuinely important to do, literally all of the other union leaders have these crazy ass lives and impacts on the plot but her... so just from a character standpoint I feel like her being Subject X just makes sense. Four foretellers have made it to the present... and so I have a feeling that the same number of dandelions did as well.

@@luffypilled a lot of good points. It’s been a long time since I refreshed my lore knowledge but I had a few ideas. The first is what if subject x is the Nobody of Skuld? The reason I suspect this is because we have two other instances of Nobodies having amnesia: marluxia, who had died before getting a chance to enter the machine, and Roxas, who is Sora’s nobody with the body of Ventus but the memories of neither. Perhaps the machine, instead of sending just her heart, sent her heart and her body to different points in the future and her memories went to the new body created by her heart. My second idea is admittedly a crackpot theory, but her me out: Penelope von sweets from Wreck it Ralph. Think about it and laugh at my insanity

I see two things that I feel are holding back the theory of Ava being Subject X. First off, Ava and Luxu were in fact friends prior to becoming the Master of Masters' apprentices. Meaning Luxu KNOWS Ava's real appearance if he ended up finding her imprisoned within Radiant Garden. The second oddity is whether Luxu is trying to deceive the Foretellers, pretending that he has no idea where Ava is and just being vague on what her current situation is. If he was being deceptive, then no doubt, Ava is the most likely to be Subject X. But we'll see.

I think Square and Nomura love to make things more complicated for the theorists and hardocre fans. That's why I think that some KH4-Trailer (or KHML) will introduce another person with an eyepatch to spark new theories about who freed Subject X in the first place 😅

You probably didn’t catch this, but Larxene has never shown any signs of amnesia. She hasn’t claimed to have forgotten anything. She is unironically playing 5D chess.

Good video, but you are going to need to try to fit the fact that Xeanhort's mother was mentioned to look like Skuld at the end of DR. Also, I assumed that Lauriam and Elrena both lost their memories because Brain sent them in the lifeboats while missing either a medium or a person with memories of them at the destination. If you recall, in that scene in KH2 where you reference Maleficents return, The 3 good fairies don't remember who Maleficent is initially, and when they finally remember her name, she is revived. Her Crow brought Malificent's Cloak (her medium), and the fairies served as her waypoint by remembering her. Also, if you recall in 358/2, Axel mentions that Roxas and Xion were unique specifically because they both had no memories of their past lives, so it's likely that Marluxia and Larxene both regained their memories shortly after, and Roxas was unqiue because of the way Sora took his own heart--which he had both Ventus and Kairi in him at the time. And We all know Xion's Deal. Skuld and Ephemer's pods being damaged is plausible, I just dont think that there's enough evidence disqualifying Ava, unless Nomura has an entirely different role. One last thing: So are you not accepting the MoM declaring Luxu the Traitor? And then , isn't Ava technically the traitor because she directly opposed the Master by going against the circled name in the book of prophecies and giving it to Brain instead? good video though!

There are actually a couple scenarios regarding Xehanort's mother that I feel can still work to a Skuld = Subject X plot line. First, remember that Ux itself is partially inspired by biblical mythology. The Foretellers are named after the 7 deadly sins and their masks are the animals associated with them in the Ancrene Wisse (except Gula, who is a leopard instead of a sow). Then the 7 deadliest darknesses locked inside them. In the JP script, the dark bangle is specifically said to collect "sins." The "lifeboat" as it's called in English is referred to as an "ark" in Japanese (also its referred to in English as "ark" in every other appearance in the series, just for some reason Ux calls it "lifeboat"). The whole narrative essentially plays out like a biblical flood narrative. Also, in the interview with Nomura confirming relation between Skuld and Xehanort's mom, he specifically said "related to her in some way." (If she were merely her descendant, he would just say so, wouldn't he?) (Also, Skuld has a mini-arc about being alone/by herself. She references it in the first conversation with Player and thanks Ephemer for being there so that she doesn't have to "face the end alone.") So, with all that in mind, Scenario A - Data Skuld Skuld's pod sent her to the future. Ephemer stayed behind, was somehow able to reconstruct Data Skuld and they built Scala together; or, he rebuilt Scala alone, and Data Skuld was recreated afterwards. This would imply that the rest of the bloodline would be part Data, but tbh, is there really a difference if they grow a heart? We see that physical objects that were originally created from Data can be retrieved from a Data World, from when Riku-Ansem stole Roxas's money, picture, ice cream stick, and trophy jewel, and gave them to Sora. They all retained physical properties, so why would a Data *person* be different, especially so long as they grew a heart like Data Sora? (This also fits with biblical framing, such as the creation of Eve from the rib of Adam) Scenario B - "You're just like Ava, Skuld." Throughout Chi/Ux, characters are constantly saying something like that to Skuld. Gula says it and adds "always trying to do the right thing." Brain adds "You must be the serious one, just like Ava," and Skuld notes that "So I've been told." Ephemer cracks a joke like "Oh, but Ava is so nice!" Even the Character Files, which only give her and the other Ux characters a blurb of a few sentences at the back of the book, take up one of those sentences by saying "Some say she's similar to Master Ava." There *has* to be *some* reason why we keep being told this. In this scenario, Ava and Skuld *could* share some familial relation. Skuld is sent to the future, Ava remains and helps rebuild Scala, or comes in some time later. Ava passes down the bloodline, leading to Xeha-Mom, who would then "be related [to Skuld] in some way" (-Nomura) via her familial relation to Ava. Some things that also point to it are "ava," as pronounced in katakana as "aba," shares a pronunciation with "aba/abba," Hebrew for "father." "Mother" on the other hand is "imma/ima," which shares pronunciation with the Japanese word "ima," "now." (This relates to Skuld in a way; Skuld is a valkyrie in Norse mythology, as well as a Norn of Fate, one of three, one who presides over the future. We already have "Urd" who presides over the past. We're only missing Verdandi (who I believe could tie into or be the name of Xeha-Mom or someone in ML), who presides over the present, or, the "now," "ima." Ima now > Ima mother > Aba father > Aba in katakana > Ava. We also know that none of the Foretellers names were their original names; they were all given to them by MoM. So, perhaps Ava's true name is "Verdandi," the present, and is connected to Xeha-Mom) I think I'd rather prefer scenario A, because I'm still on the "Ava = Kairi Grandma" train, but some weird time things are happening in Scala, like how there can be do many deserted city islands just 15 years at most after it was a Gothic city.

My theory, Skuld has/had a sister. Sounds like a bit of a cop out, but I almost guarantee we'll meet Xehanort's mother in Missing Link and she'll mention Skuld, or at the least, their likeness will be brought up.

Interesting stuff. The women in the KH series hold much mystery 🤔

I feel like there's a lot of unanswered questions around the other subjects that Terranort was holding prisoner. It sounds to me like Terranort was kidnapping subjects in secret (without Ansem's knowledge). It's also unclear what exactly happened to them during the pilot studies -- like what exactly is the nature of "mental collapse". Is it possible that the pilot studies turned those people into nobodies and that Lauriam and Elrena got mixed up in it because they were easy to kidnap without anyone noticing? Perhaps, this would explain how Organization XIII ended up with so many mysterious big shots. If Xehanort wanted to kidnap subjects that no one would miss, then he would go after mysterious outcasts with few connections. The nobodies that retained human form would be specifically those who had strong wills.

Maybe Kh4 sora has amnesia

Not only do I think Skuld is most likely Subject X, I think she's also the Nameless Star/the girl from Verum Rex. She looks similar enough to Skuld, especially if she's potentially grown older as time went on. Skuld even has several star charms on her outfit.

Im pretty sure the amnesia stems from a lack of a medium. IE Maleficents coat. MoMs keyblade, brain's hat. Those things are what allow the memories to remain intact

I think that if it is Skuld she didn't lose here memory from the lifeboat. If you remember right before they tried to activate the lifeboats they fought the player character who was able to knock Skuld out. Maybe she lost her memories from a combination of that and her heart time travelling

I still say Subject X is not only Ava, but Ava's Nobody. Luxu didn't know what happened to Ava after their clash in Union X, most likely leaving her for dead, since she'd never go down without a fight. Due to the masks of the Foretellers, and the black robes, neither Ava nor Luxu would know what the other truly looked like. Luxu likely having left Ava for dead, and Subject X having no memory, the two would have no idea who the other was if Ava's Nobody was Subject X. Now, the hole in Skuld's case is that she was able to time travel in the first place. We know that in order to time travel you must have a medium, and someone with memories of you. Luxu never met Skuld, nor did anyone else around this time. So Skuld had no one with memories of her in Radiant Garden, and no known medium in which to arrive. Ava, on the other hand, is remembered vividly by Luxu. Question now and biggest hole for Ava's case, is how did she end up in Radiant Garden? She had no way of time traveling, even if she had a medium and memories to form her there. Now, this is where Skuld's case has a leg over Ava, as it really is unknown how Ava could have gotten from where she was, to Radiant Garden, and I wish I had that answer. One theory I have is that she traveled through time via Luxu himself, even if it was unwilling, just how Maleficent was brought back by the Fairy Godmothers. After all, Luxu brought the rest of the Foretellers back through time intentionally, and all at once. But another note in Ava's favor; the words "May your heart be your guiding key" was certainly used a lot in Union X, but almost no one used it, nor followed it, quite as religiously as Ava. To the point that they were the words which caused her to become the prophesized traitor, nothing was more important to her.

That intro vid with the song. I just noticed when sora fights riku in hd, the second riku hits Sora’s blade pause. Sora has an orange onesie which reminds me of beta sora but this has the updated sora model. Why did it turn orange for a split second? Cool

I think the traitor either has to be Luxu, Ava, or a made up lie to cause more discord between the Foretellers. Also, what about Xehanort's mother looking like Skuld's descendant?

It would make more sense if the memory loss came from having no medium after the time travel. It is not just Elrena and Lauriam but also Ventus who loses his memory. And the only thing those 3 have in common is the lack of a medium. Or the lack of memories and you interpret the wind/storm/flowers as a medium but this is a really big stretch. If they just got all remembered at the same time without an medium (for example as Xehanort asks the mirror about his friends in his dreams) but didn't get a medium which makes the body complete with memories then they have all memory loss. But that's also just a theory of mine. And I think Ava is more possible then Skuld to be Subject X.

Depending on when he is in the timeline the Master of Masters could also be missing an Eye.

At this point i think its probably ava, with what we know of dark road my question becomes how much of his memories did xehanort have at this point? He mentions hes regaining them but we have no idea just how much he knows at that point in time. So i could see a world where subject x is skuld if he only had portions of his memory. If he had remembered far more, given he knows who the union leaders are through connecting with his care givers heart then then the safe bet is ava. Which would make sense as to why luxu himself would free her.

Can you do a video about darkness? I think it would be very cool as a fan of vanitas! (Only if you want of course)

Just had a thought: what if the Striletzia we see in Quadratum is actually HER DATA COPY? If If I recall correctly they couldn't find her copy, so what if the Master pulled her copy into Quadratum?

The only problem with skuld being subject X is that xaehnort's mother appears to be a descendant of skuld and we know for a fact that xaehnort is a descendant of ephimer as stated in dark road therefore it is likely that skuld and ephemer have a child and are together after the fall of daybreak town meaning she could not be subject X this is supported by xaehnort looking into the player characters memory and stating that skuld looks just like mom

@toddlemmon01 we kind of know what happens to Ephemer as shown by the ending of khux, he wakes up in what appears to be the real world to the destroyed daybreak town and then stated by Sigurd to Brain he says that ephemer built Scala, so if skuld and ephemer did have a child it's likely that she is there with him during the construction of skala, if Skuld was sent to the future to the time of missing link then Ephemer is already long dead and there would be no way for them to have a child.

I agree subject x = skuld & then based on the cutscenes from melody of memory + all the aqua Kairi stuff, it seems like Kairi is either ava or her reincarnation. Makes a lot of sense that these two would appear together in the timeline, as ava was tasked with making sure her dandelions spread with the memories of the keyblade to bring light to other worlds, and since skuld isn't fulfilling this task, kairi/ava would have to be there (memory loss for her also) to ensure the prophecy gets fulfilled. It's a chain of fractured memories, lol. Let's not forget luxu sent Kairi through the first of the 7 pods & that she landed in radiant garden at the same time subject x did!!!

I personally think Subject X's amnesia is because there is no one to remember her after the life boat journey, and thus she doesn't remember herself. The same goes for Roxas in the first 7 days of "joining" organization 13, there was not a single genuine person who knew him before becoming Roxas, thus Roxas had a hard time reconnecting to his true self, his identity. That's why Maleficent had no problems getting back with her memory, because of the fairy godmothers remembering her and thus manifesting who Maleficent really is It's as the saying goes, it's the people around you who know you best, and are in the best position honestly to tell you who you are, or make you remember who you are when you need it. But i'm curious as to Sora's case in Quadratum, he will probably have some amnesia from the journey to Quadratum and everything that happened before. Now Strelitzia is there to guide him back to his identity and purpose, but she doesn't know Sora personally. The only connection between Sora and Strelitzia are Lauriam and Roxas, thus not a real, genuine and direct connection to remember Sora from. Then whe have to consider Quadratum in itself, is this a place where the souls hang around as long as there are people still remembering the ones who past away (aka Heaven) different from the life boat joyriders? That would explain why Strelitzia is there after being killed by Darkness, because there are to this day still people remembering her and living for her. Aka Lauriam and Elrena. The same goes for Sora; Sora, in a matter of speaking, has the full Noah's ark remembering him and living for his image, who Sora was/is, at that point. See all these people had a medium to get where they are now, but only Maleficent had a direct connection through being remembered by others who truly know her, as Maleficent was still alive as well at that point. Her heart was just travelling through time while her "body"(robe?) was laying around in her castle

i think you're jumping to conclusions when you say that subject X was necessarily taken to unreality; we don't even know if luxu has the ability to get there. also, regarding the memory loss, i think it is actually far more likely to be due to the lifeboat, and that's because you forgot about one more person who used the lifeboat: ventus. ven also has no memories of the age of fairytale, although it's unclear from him being reunited with his chirithy if that has now changed. since he didn't become a nobody, it's probably that maleficent is actually the outlier for having all of her memories intact.

Part of me wants "Sora's Mom is Subject X" to be real Part of me also would take "Skuld is Sora's Mom" too

Honestly, I think Skuld was supposed to be Subject X, but Nomura changed his mind and it is now someone from Missing Link. Skuld has the best evidence but Xehanort's mother messed up that theory.

Actually, what if subject X is MoM??, His keyblade is No Name, if you don't have a name and put an X in there, there's no letters to mix, just an X. And the voice?, I suppose it has a gruffy voice or was hiding its real voice this entire time!

The reason that Maleficent retained her memories is because she existed in the future before, and a medium. The others didn’t. To go into the future with a lifeboat, you needed 2 things. You needed someone with memories of you and a medium. The Union Leaders had a medium but no one with memories. Meaning that their bodies could be reformed but their memories couldn’t.

The darkness…? The one in Ven or Luxu? Or even Maleficent? Or Xehanort?

You forget nobodys remember ther humen days so it might be the ark errasing some memories and Xigbar found Marluxia

I don't actually have a true belief on who Subject X is. All three girls have too many hoops to hop through for be to believe one over the other. "four friends and a key" doesn't truly work for any of them. They all either have more or less then four friends. Which actually makes me think that it is one clear memory, an event that we haven't seen yet. Rather then a lot of fuzzy memories. And Skuld doesn't really work because she clearly has a granddaughter in "Xehanort's Mother". Which makes me think that her pod didn't take off like Ephemer's. I do have a way for Subject X to be Skuld. In ML it makes sense for Brain to try to get into the sleeping data to get the Dandelions out. Which is likely why Emblem heartless and maybe some Darknesses are going to be running around in ML. However I do think that that it is possible that Brain get's Skuld's data while he kickstarts the game of ML. After that all anyone would need to make a new Skuld is to have her data and put it into a body that doesn't have it's own mind yet. Through interaction this new Skuld would grow her own heart. That said, I am not sure that I actually believe this theory. It is just the way that Skuld could be Subject X that makes the most sense to me. My other two thoughts on Subject X is this. She could be a character from ML and we don't know her at all yet. Or she could be Nameless Star. I mean there isn't much to go on for any of these possibilities but that is honestly true for any Subject X theory. No one really fits. If I had to choose who I want to be Subject X I would honestly chose Nameless Star. It would explain why she is on our side of the Final World. And there is more then enough time for her to grow close to Yozora.

Skuld goes forward in time TOO far maybe? Sees Xehanort win, darkness win, realizes somehow that’s her seed? Uses power of waking to try and unhump ephemer? Or at least do some bout Xehanort? Tries to cheese it and pull a sorry but She messes up, gets caught in RG by pre-org-scientist, thus creating this timeline where Xehanort is ironically no longer the “destined child” and Sora is. Everyone who’s hip is hip and everyone who isn’t just isn’t. Getting to MOM in Quadratum would probably have something to do with “killing her”, then using a lil P.O.W P.O.W. To jump hearts to get to her. Maybe an OG darkness from the OG timeline hitched a ride? Everybody fights? KH4 👌🏿🤷🏿‍♂️🕺🏿🔥✨🔑

It ain't Kairi, Xehanort used the pod on her so her heart would resonate with a Keyblade wielder. He used Kairi to find Sora so the events of KH1 would transpire.
