Hi Nobby. I made the same backplate from a Myford faceplate as you have done. Worked out well. Great video. Keep em coming Steve.

Thanks Steve. Using the catch plate was a good option as it cost about a third the price of a Myford back plate. Cheers Nobby

Nice find on that Bison chuck - they are premier equipment and very pricey. Cast iron - it’s a love / hate relationship. Easy to machine, but heck of a mess. 😊

Hi Stuart it took me a good hour to clean up the lathe after this. I think I struck lucky with the Bison chuck. Would have been handy to have the outside jaws, but still good for small parts. Cheers Nobby

Hi Nobby, when using the chuck with the recently machines backplate, take care using it. As you say it was a driver plate originally for turning between centers, it is only a lightweight plate. With the casting being relieved on the back it is not very thick compared to a proper chuck backplate. Take it easy maching and puting it on and off the spindle so as to not put too much stress on the thin section. Regards from Australia.

Thanks for the warning David. I will take great care with it, and inspect it every time I use it. I don't think it will get a lot of use, but will be a useful back up. You advice is always useful to me. Cheers Nobby.

Decent bargain with the bison chuck. You never know when a bargain will come in useful in the future. That’s how my workshop has ended up with so much “decoration” 😂

Good score on the Bison chuck. They are well made and command a premium over the cheaper versions.

I think I was very lucky Tom. A real bargain. Also the TOS chuck, a 4 jaw scroll chuck. A quality item. ATB Cheers Nobby

Thank you David it's useful to know that for the future. I have two shop made sets now 6mm and 8mm, and I could make them in imperial as well if needed. It was a fun project making them anyway. Thanks for your help. Cheers Nobby
