Hi Nobby, for small gaps in the vice parallels, the foam ear defender plugs are great. What a strange vice with a left hand thread, that would catch me out every time I used it. Cheers, Jon

Thanks for the idea Jon. This vice also catches me out. It's very well made with some nice jaw features. Not sure if it's commercially made or shop made. Cheers Nobby

Nobby, If you need to keep 2 parallels apart or even a single one against a fixed jaw, and it is only a very small gap, do the following. Find yourself a piece of the STEEL banding used on heavy crates or bundles of metal, have an ask at a builders merchant to see if there is some in their waste bin. Cut of a jaw length and then put a 2 or 3 apposing bows in it to make it wavey. It is tough stuff almost spring steel material, will crush down as you close the vice but be able to spring apart as you open the vice. Another thing you can also use is the new sort of waxy foam sheet / block that now seems to come in in the box when you buy a new domestic appliance. That seems to have a reasonable memory for a short while, will get you out of trouble quickly. If it is only 1 parallel that is used and you have lots of parts to make, a smear of grease or thick oil on the back of the parallel will keep it in place. Not too much so that the grease or oil squeezes out the top, otherwise the swarf will stick to it. Regards from Australia.

Thanks David. The steel banding material is what I was looking for. Hope I'll locate some eventually. Cheers Nobby

Nice video Nobby, some good tips. If you can't find any banding let me know, I'll mail you some spring steel strips that I use. Exactly the same kind of stuff. No issue for me to send you a few strips you can trim to length as needed. Cheers!

Thanks Tom. Although the chemical has its dangers, the process is easy to do, and gives a nice professional look. Cheers Nobby
