Myanmar armed conflict: Thousands join armed groups fighting junta

Last week Myanmar’s military government banned conscription-aged men from leaving the country for work -- as it continues to take losses in fights against multiple armed groups.
The new law came after tens of thousands applied for visas to avoid military conscription.
But thousands more are joining armed groups to oppose the junta.
In the third special report from inside Myanmar, Al Jazeera’s Tony Cheng met some of those who’d rather fight the Junta, than join their ranks.
John Quinley is the Director of Fortify Rights, an NGO focusing on human rights in Myanmar.

The junta has forced city folk who would never support drug lords and their private armies. They have been left no choice but to join what would normally be ambivalent to at best, adversarial normally, mortal enemies at worst. It remains to be seen what these allies of convenience can build if they win?

There are many armed resistance groups and only a few, specifically the Wa are involved in trafficking and those with ties to China and the tatmadaw involved in production. The PDF are not involved.

Beautiful country and people .... Peace for all ✌ In my humble opinion, civilians fleeing or caught up in the civil war in Myanmar should be able to relocate and resettle over to the vast resourceful Australia & New Zealand in the Asia-Pacific region.. In fact, around 90% of Australia/New Zealand are completely empty.. Besides, the vast majority of the population in Australia/New Zealand, tens of millions of Europeans were from all over Europe brought in over to the Asia-Pacific region. Beautiful country and people .... Peace for all ✌

these folks are so clueless. Myanmar have always been like this where its never truly been one country, its more of a Trible nation and the only time they can find peace is when they make deals not to shoot each other, which is what happened when they release that female to be a puppet president. the military realized they got the shorter end of the stick from that deal and now it just reverted back to the old ways
