My Weekly Reef Tank Maintenance Routine!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Waterbox Peninsula 25 -
I hope y'all enjoyed the video. This is my weekly maintenance schedule. It's pretty straight forward. It is also the first time that I am doing weekly water changes on. Thanks again for watching, and happy reefing!

I love this style of video: just calming music and subtitles. It seems so much more polished than your other videos.

The tanks coming along nicely! I thought that algae may have been dinos?! The macro algae in my tank is so efficient it's allowing dinos to creep in because nutrient levels are so low.

You could be right! It would make sense, considering I don’t feed too heavily either. Thanks for the comment

Thanks for the comment bro. If you live near the water it should be a breeze, but yeah keep doing research and see if it’s for you

Green Cyanobacteria is what is growing on your sand bed. It’s a bacteria not an algae. I think it’s sometimes part of the ugly phase and as the tank matures should go away on its own, just keep manually removing as much as you can. If it doesn’t eventually go away or just gets worse there are chemicals you can dose to kill it off. However if the root of the problem isn’t fixed there is a chance it will come back.

Yeah good shout! I never though about it being cyano. The sand I’m using is from an old tank setup so it could be contributing to that

@@MelbourneReefer In my experience, cyano goes away with increased flow and adding beneficial bacteria like microbacter7. Might be worth trying.

@@timjohnson3913 yep, sure looks like it. I think it’s also due to a lack of flow hitting that part of the sand bed

Your tank looks great. Can I ask where you got your caulerpa from? I am finding it hard to get any macro algae other than the ubiquitous chaeto. Thanks

Thank you mate. I purchased it from a LFS called deer park aquarium. It is native to the tropical coasts around Australia. Whereabouts are you located?

I was using the same skimmer on the same tank, but found it removed to much of my nutrients even with a dry skim, how you finding the skimmer on the tank?

  • @MelbourneReefer

No nutrient issues so far. I’m running the water level in the skimmer at the lowest possible level it can go, so I get a slow and dry skim. How many fish do you have?

@@techtrader9858 Hmm that’s interesting, maybe give it a proper clean, the bubble sound shouldn’t be that audible. I would keep it on for the water aeration that it provides

You’d be better served to make your own water. It’s cleaner, and less chance to introduce bacteria or unwanted nutrients.

@@johndanczak I used to mate. It wasn’t economical for me, and I found it wasted to much water. Thanks for the comment though
