Great Job on this walk through of options. I love alcohol inks and have quite a variety of them. I love how you did your swatches using more alcohol and blowing it rather than pouncing the color for a more agate look which is what I did... now... I’ll be making additional swatches! Thanks so much for freely sharing this awesome information. Have a great day! 🙂

Hi Sandy. Photo paper is designed to dry quickly when downloading pictures onto a glossy surface to look like a photograph to printers. The reverse side does not have this treatment and therefore gives artists me a time to work your mediums.

The blending solution works differently than the rubbing alcohol- it provides more of an open time to direct the inks. I use both depending on where I want to direct the ink or create an effect. I rarely use the alcohol ink full strength as I prefer a more subtle look.

Great video, I still think the copic blending works better then the solution for the inks along with the alcohol. I also swatched mine the hard way but found that when you drop just one drop of color and just let it move, 1 you see how it moves some move fast others a little slower on it’s own and 2 the other colors show up at the end when it starts to dry. Then I use a pinch and cut out the best spot that showed what that color does. I have to say your swatches were beautiful. They say the copic air brush is being discontinued so there is a unit that the compressor shuts off when you stop pushing on the air that I might get works the same from what I can see. So this is getting way to long, once again thanks so much for doing what you do by posting I really appreciate it very much. One day when my money gets some what better I have two people I want to be Patriots and you will be my first. Thanks

I'm new to your site, and I found this video so informative and helpful! I have all the old Adirondack inks, and all the Ranger alcohol inks too. I love doing these backgrounds and your video was great! I do have to say I have arthritis (Carpal tunnel surgery on both hands, and a bone removed from my left thumb) and I found the Ranger blower very easy to use and a lot more effective than a straw (the "old" way). I didn't buy the Copic air blower system even though I have every Copic made, because of the price and noise. Thanks so much for the paper comparison and the swatch idea. I like the Yupo paper but when I tried to emboss a verse over it...well, Yupo does NOT like heat! LOL

I got a lot of information from this video, thank you! LOVE the idea for putting the color on the cap, helpful for seeing the color while in the case and also for making sure the correct cap ends up on the bottle. I just purchased a Master airbrush, so less $$ than the Copic, but more power than the USB version. Too bad, too, since having the USB powered one would be great for travel, although it looked like it might be awkward to use. Now for the big challenge: finding 91% or better alcohol! I have 70% and it's just not doing the trick like I hoped it would, it was all I could find. Off to hunt for the good stuff!

Have you tried Grafix craft plastic? I watch Myriam's Nature and she does a lot of alcohol ink work with various mediums. She says this doesn't stain and with some 91% or 99% alcohol you can totally start over if you want. Also, the cheap one that leaves sticky parts you could maybe foil. At least you wouldn't waste your money. Thanks for the tip about the freezer paper. Maybe you could even use the slightly used pieces of it for cards or mixed media projects. Thanks for this video Sandy, there is so much useful information! I am interested in trying the copic airbrush system, but wondered if you have to buy the cord from Copic if you are attaching to a regular air compressor? (the link in your list for the cord took me to an air compressor link). I am in Australia and can't find the Copic branded cord available on it's own. The air compressor from Copic is over $300 here and I can get a much cheaper one at the hardware store. But I was just wondering how I would connect the two and if the lead is specific to the copic air adaptor. Thanks again! Loved all of your card samples and swatches too.

Loved your samples but wish you'd have done a couple with more than one color. And I've used gold or silver in limited amounts with colors to add to them. Have always used shiny paper but have photo paper that I'll try. And used the blending solution but see alcohol works just as well. My question is about the photo paper...you mentioned the "HP" logo on the paper, but referenced Epson photo paper in your supply list.... Which is it? Ughhh. I reread my comment..didn't quite make sense. I meant ....Photo paper , glossy side, is designed to trap and dry the ink from printers immediately. People generally want to download photographs onto to glossy paper. The reverse side is not treated the same and that is why you have more time to work your project.

I KNOW you are super safe- I’m just putting that out for those who might not realise there is a danger in using heat with the alcohol- if it’s hot enough to warp yupo- with is essentially plastic paper, it’s hot enough to possibly cause a fire.
