@@ChrisTV1I would run your numbers again. I was surprised by 12k so I had to check out the trailer. Big Tex says it weighs 5280 empty. That leaves only 10,620 lbs of your 15900 GVWR for cargo and equipment. Don't want you to bend an axel.

@@jakes.5591 Previously before this I handled budgets for multi-million dollar projects for a drywall construction company.. numbers are my “thing” so to say but I’ll give you a breakdown.. My Truck & Trailer GVWR is 25,900 (Truck 10k + Trailer 15,900), My trucks curb weight with a full tank, including aftermarket wheels, rails, bumper, myself, tools, etc is 8,200lbs (rounding up) + the trailer 5,580lbs trailer weight (Big Tex 28+5) including tools, straps, chains, etc comes to 6k (rounding up) 8,200lbs + 6,000lbs = 14,200lbs. If we take the 25,900 - 14,200 = 11,700lbs for cargo… Like I said before, my load weight is just under 12,000lbs. Hope this helps you.

I definitely get what you’re saying though as far as the payload of the actual trailer, but the name of the game is to get the light loads that pay more, not to max out the limits of the truck & trailer. I think the heaviest I’ve hauled was 6k lbs. I wouldn’t attempt to exceed 9k lbs for my trucks engine & transmission sake.

@@ChrisTV1 your truck should be good to about 35k total with no issues. I agree below 6k is great but don't be afraid up to your 12k limit. Also keep in mind. if you get a decent paying loads but you find your self a little heavy... You can pull the Bed, Rear bumper, lighter front bumper, Seats if you don't need them. you can even run 1/2 tank of fuel. I had some loads doing OTR where above 1/2 tank I was over weight so yeah lots of ways to shave weight off.

You can buy a 36’ trailer with 8k axels and have it de-rated down to 14k or 15k and be able to be under the 26k limit and be able to safely load whatever you want on it. And you’ll have the piece of mind knowing you won’t be over loading you axels as bad! So at any dealer you can ask for axel ratings of course and ask them if possible can trailer be de rated and they should do it no problem as long as the trailer is not already registered to your state you will be fine. Because once it is register with the vin you would need to call the manufacturer and have them re vin your trailer and they’d charge you for it and that’ll cost close to about 1k-1500

Yeah seems like i see a these trucks with half loads rolling around where this could haul those same loads just fine. I liked his thinking, going non dually that way he can hall the extra length, also the width of a dually puts you more at risk of rubbing up against something or even the opposite someone rubbing against you. Where i live just above boston there are some tight streets especially in the city. Be ready folks will treat you like shit at the truck stops i heard with this. You know what i might also do? So if there is a way to mount one of those pop up campers to the roof like they do for for overland suvs on an extended non dually. The roof rack would support most and maybe it would extend out and overhand bed just a little but you could have angle bracket from back corners of bed in back of cab coming up and then angling to support back end of pop up so it does not F with bed and hitch area. Then you would not have to sleep in your truck and could look more legit at the stops as you put in the effort. Those fold out campers not that heavy and aerodynamic at the front. Just a thought

MegaCabs automatically have a lower Towing and Payload capacity even if it is 10k GVWR, because it's a higher curb weight than the exact same optioned non-MegaCab. So yes, with the wheels/tires, bumpers, anything else, your 500lb atleast down on whatever the Towing Rating or Payload numbers are. Too many errors here with "numbers" going to get you in trouble still.

Be sure tro check your state requlations. While federal dot regulations state under 26k GVWR is non cdl, Many states have laws that any vehicle & trailer with a Gross Combined Weight Rating higher than 10,001lbs require CDL. In Vermont any trailer with a GVWR of 10k or more requires a CDL.

The GVWR refers to the maximum loaded weight under which a truck can safely operate as prescribed by the MANUFACTURER, meaning placing weight strictly in the bed of the vehicle. “Towing” capacity will determine how much weight that vehicle can safely pull as prescribed by the MANUFACTURER. Non-cdl If Truck + trailer + cargo brings the Total Vehicle Weight to greater than 26,001 lbs then a valid CDL (A) license will be needed to move that vehicle legally on any State or Federal highway.

Chris I love this video :) 1 tire on each side of axle Single wheel 2 tires on each side of axle Dual wheels 2 axles Called a Tandem VS single axle or Triaxle. So you have a Single Wheel Tandem. Now if you had 10k axle with 17.5 tires they call them a Super single as it's 1 tire a side but epic high weight capacity.

The problem with the as69 is the aftermarket support. Rebuildable? yes, very troublesome and costly to do so? yes. The 68rfe is one of the better chrysler units for aftermarket support. They can really handle a modified cummins setup better, in a daily tow perspective.. The allison swap is a thing, but its not worth it because the 68rfe can be just as reliable and hold power with ease. Stock for stock, maybe we could agree allison has better reliability than 68rfe, but both with a billet triple disc converter and software, my opinon is 68rfe

@@earnerstransportllc5295 I would go with a 3500 dulley. I’m in AZ and my plates are apportioned. So my GVWR is 38,000. This includes the truck trailer and load on the truck registration. Basically the bigger the truck the more cargo you can carry. If you get a 16 or 22 GN you can get a way a little easier with a 2500. If that answers you question.

Since the 22gn has a gvwr of 23900 and 25gn has a gvwr of 25900; do I need to get a truck with a gcvwr rating too match that? Or do I need a max trailer weight rating to match that? Or is it not critical to my choice. I ask because I see that the high output Cummings has towing capacity of 26k or more, but the normal Cummings does not. If you plan on keeping that truck long term then you need to get the ATS Allison swap ASAP. Needs air bags on that thing too. Also, you should’ve weighed the truck front and rear axles on different pads and the trailer tandems on one by itself so you know the weight distribution of the truck empty for future loading.

The Dodge (Ram - Sheep) 2500 with rear COIL springs is the wrong truck for that BIG heavy duty tandem dual axle gooseneck trailer. He needs more than air bags on the rear suspension.
