Don't Do This! | These Mistakes Are Deadly

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I have been overwhelmed with the amount of trailers I’ve seen dropped on the yard lately. I’m hoping this video will help many drivers who need it.
I know I’ve done one of these in the past, but this one is a much better run down that the video I filmed over 2 years ago.

Everything that you covered in this video I learned from a FedEx driver that took the time to show me the proper way to safely hookup and unhook and it only took one time because I definitely paid attention. Just couldn't figure out the beeping noise. Made a new friend in the process and four years later I married her. Thanks for the informational/training video. I love that you're here to help educate. There's not enough of that anymore in this industry. It used to be the way, you help out your fellow driver...but the drivers coming in today aren't that old school trucker anymore and no one helps anyone. For some (me) its a lifestyle not a job...but for most today its the opposite. No pride. I see the pride in your videos! You are a "trucker" keep the shiny side up greasey side down driver! Great video! I pulled triples for FX for many years and enjoyed the challenge. A few bits of information for you, inside the pintle hook that little tongue is called a snubber. We keep our fingers clear of the loop because those dollies have ballast in the tail end to keep the tongue weight easy to manage. Sometimes if it has too much it will pop up violently. A dolly can weigh up to 2800lbs so never wrestle one, you'll lose. In your blooper where you struggled to get the dolly to the pintle, bounce the dolly off the second trailer to get momentum if the trailer isn't sitting too high. Also make sure when you go to air up the trailers that you're absolutely sure the tractor brakes are still set. I've seen many ghost trucks in the FX yards and drivers about to get fired for causing damage. Safe travels!

You explain this impressively well. I've seen quite a few videos out there that don't stress the important bits enough. I've pulled STAA doubles, triples, rockies and turnpikes and dealt with single and tandem congears and I wouldn't have explained this setup any differently than you - good job!

I pulled doubles in NorCal in the 70’s. Pretty much the same today except the alarms and new technology on the dolly. I slipped on sand and gravel several times and ended up on the ground under the dolly. They had tongue jacks then. I had a lot less training then too. I rode with a buddy 1 night and he showed me how it worked. You learn as you go. Good times. Thanks for the memories.

The struggle is real on even the slightest incline with those dollies, I’m always trying to choose the lighter ones like you had. Sometimes if you can get a good angle on the tires it can help to push on them directly to get it out of a rut. Going at it alone is rough!
