The Problem with TV Repairs is, that a new one is often cheaper than letting it repair. My father is doing tv reparations and he says that this branch is dying out because of this problem.

It worked normally, all the inputs started to work normally too and stoped randomly changing channels It was my first LCD tv I opened, and I still don't know how a tv repair shop of their own brand wasn't able to repair this tv ,-,

I want to say one thing to a viewer who is thinking about this sort of repair, do NOT even try to discharge high-voltage capacitors via shorting them out. If you know that the capacitor stores low voltage inside or is rated for low voltage and you have measured it (carefully) then go ahead. There is risk of melting the screwdriver's tip to capacitors legs, burning traces on PCB or in case of heavy spark it can ricochet bits of solder off the board in your general direction. Good ways to discharge capacitor is to use big resistor or incandescent bulb Keep it safe

Hi i work at a place that mostly works on computers and consoles but we do do tv's as well, one of the biggest problems with repairing tv's is if its worth fixing compared to a new one. For example if your little kid throws something at the TV its basically trash now because the screen it self is a pain and expensive to ship and it cost more than just trying to buy the screen. So we do not repair screens eve, what we do if its a really small tv like this one its not worth fixing over where we are at .So we only fix mid to big TV's and at that, all we can do is fix the power supply or a board if thats a problem for the most part thats really thats all that is worth fixing. One big thing other than that is actually being able to get the part you need. Some times there are straight up no parts because most of the time they are pulled off of tv's with broken screens and put on eBay or the same model number or number on the board, has different boards with the same model number and it is important to get the specific board or most times it will not work it can be a pain in the butt at times . It sure doesn't help that now companies are making it more to throw away and buy new than repair able its just plain bad for the environment. Its just more money for the customer to need's to spend. Companies just want you to buy more so they can get more money.

Back in the 70's and 80's Rank-Arena used to be a fairly big name in consumer electronics here, they were a subsidiary of the British Rank Corporation. They made mainly things such as TVs and stereos. In the 80's they got bought out by NEC, and after a while Woolworths ended up licensing the name (along with JVC, Polaroid, AWA and a few others) to sell on cheap TVs in their stores.

@@davidshepherd265 Ah, I see! I didn't know that was a zombie brand! I'm somehow reminded of the "Aiwa" and "Harson's" TVs I've seen here in Singapore, which may look nice but had bad software (basically uncertified Android TV that had the fancy Google features missing and ran tablet apps instead). So that too explains the cheap AWA products I saw in a Big W while on holiday a while back! I imagine the former were originally like the Australian equivalent of RCA. Edit: Also reminded me of "Soniq" from JB Hi-fi and such a TV was installed in the guest bedroom of the house I stayed in; the UI made me think it was based on Skyworth hardware, since they not only produce TVs, but offer white label TV services to other brands, including Singapore's Prism+ (the Prism+ Q (non QE) series is based on the Skyworth UB7500 series from what I could tell).

@@kbhasiAWA was similar, but not the same - in the early 20th century they more or less introduced radio to Australia, and built a lot of the first radio transmitters and receivers here. In the 50's they also had a major role in introducing television to Australia. The original AWA is actually still around, though these days they are an IT services company. As for the Soniq JB TVs, thats more or less a made up name that has no heritage here, JB has actually dumped the Soniq name, their store brand TVs are now sold under the "FFalcon" name (no, thats not a typo, it has two F's at the beginning) I have an "AWA" TV from Big W that looks very similar to Hugh's Rank Arena, but has a completely different interface, however we used to have a Palsonic TV that had the same interface, and I've seen the same interface on TVs with a few other names on them. Also, thats sad that Aiwa is now just a name used to sell no name TVs, I inherited Dad's old Aiwa boombox that he bought overseas before I was born, its built really well and still sounds damn good. Also, I'm David, just realised I'm commenting under my handle, since I'm on a different machine :P

@@retrogeek34 Yep, I can understand if you forget to switch accounts. "FFalcon" reminds me of "iFFalcon" here in Singapore which seems to sell rebadged TCL TVs. Other than that, I believe TCL TVs here are exclusively available at Giant Hypermarket.

My old 2013 Smart Tv which is LG says it is ready to turn on because of the off indicator. But when I turn it on, Nothing works. The Light Flashes 3 Times and I don’t know what to do. Plus this TV has a Magic Remote Meaning if you move the Remote, The Cursor Moves. And It’s Basically Like A Wii Without a CD Drive.

I had found a 46 inch westinghouse flat screen that was out on the curb for trash Christmas day since they had gotten a new TV to replace it as evidenced by a box to a new TV next to it. I figured it was worth taking it and seeing if it worked, it had no stand or power supply so I used a laptop charger that fit the TV, and it actually is fully functional! The only issue with it was the there was a shadowy spot near the bottom center of the screen from the film wrinkling underneath, but I fastened it to my dresser, and since then after 5 years it is still working to this day

In more modern TVs with LED/OLED display, if the screen is damaged (e.g. physically cracked LCD or panel) the replacement is quiet expensive and often costs more then buying a new one.

Here you can buy some of the boards and controllers, for the most common types of TV. There is a repair market for them because they are not that cheap. With power supplies good luck finding the controller chip, almost no references nor datasheet. Some of them are made why an unkonwn companies. Never repaired a TV PSU, but done a good amount of laptop chargers, and they are not very different at this section. Usually the mosfet shorts, current sensing resistor blow (opens), then high voltage is let into the current sense pin of the chip blowing it. Kinda of chain reaction that require many componentes to replace, even the diode bridge probably gone short and the round fuse is gone. After all this list of components, 90 dollars for a working PSU is a good approach.

Up until last year I had a nearly 20 year old tube TV in my room (the only place I actually watch any kind of TV) I ended up upgrading to a Samsung 55 inch 4k TV.... But I don't even have the antenna connected to it most of the times mostly because living in Italy the TV content is horrible (most channels do offer original audio) most of what I watch are just downloaded files casted from my phone or USB 😂..... That tube TV is being used to watch old anime series on low res.... And the signal is coming from my DTV receiver connect to the VCR and out the antenna out of my VCR 👌

@ɮօʊռċɛ օʄʄ rising prices and stuff like that are getting me off electronics.... A always cared about the latest phone but could never afford it... Now that I have some kind of income I realize that money can be spent better.... I really never cared about televisions since I never watch it mostly I was using my old TV as a monitor for my files which ends up being the same for my 4k TV just for higher resolution content like 4k Blu rays or standard blu rays since I've also purchased a UHD player and a soundbar which I rarely use... Rising prices are killing my interest in electronics in part thanks to VAT (value added tax) which is all over European countries

The thing that sucks with today's high-end TVs is they're now omitting Composite and Component imput making it impossible to connect prior generation game consoles without the use of a converter/scaler box. On top of that you're spending all of your lots of money for a device that was deemed trash from the moment the schematics were drawn up.
