My Top 13 Priority Series To Start and Finish in 2024!

Ойын-сауық

Hi everyone! For the fourth time on my channel, today's video is about the top 13 (completed or soon to be completed) priority series I want to start and finish next year. This list consists of 13 series I haven't started reading yet. I made this kind of video three years in a row, and this year, I managed to finish half of my priority series. The next paragraph is my current state and the predicted result of this mission.
I was able to thoroughly finish three priority series (Mother of Learning by nobody103, The Rise and Fall trilogy by Michael J. Sullivan, and Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy by Tad Williams) so far. And it is very likely I will succeed at finishing Skyward by Brandon Sanderson next month. The Sun Eater is not completed yet, but I plan to read Demon in White this month. For The Keeper Chronicles, I hope to start reading it once I have the deluxe illustrated edition. However, I failed to start Wars of Light and Shadow by Janny Wurts, The Books of Earthsea by Ursula Guin, The Fatemarked Epic by David Estes, and The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe.
That's my update on the state of my priority series this year, and now, I'm hoping I'll fare better with my priority series for 2024. Let me know your thoughts on them. And let me know some of your priority series to read next year! :)

I began Pillars of the Earth last week. It is incredible! Wow. I am so happy I finally began it. Last time I instantly connected with characters this way was with John Gwynn. Only 200 pages in and I am filled with emotion about what may and has happened to people I already am completely emotionally invested in.

I also have both The War Arts Saga books waiting to be read, they were looking at me in disgust with the rest of my TBR pile while I ignored them and read The Narrow Path Between Desires in one sitting! Really hope you love that last one as much as I do, and please don't judge that series by the first book (it's fine, but it just gets so much more fun later on, lol) 🤣 And Scythe is a really good series imo! Great video. Wow some list of books. Waiting for my Zack Argyle special edition myself, will read the trilogy then. I had bought the Gun Metal Gods when it was released, of course haven't got to it either, but have to in 2024. I have Bakkers two trilogies on my TBR forever, I've heard that is a very hard series, more philosophical than Malazan, sill have been meaning to dive in. Waiting on you for dates on Tad Williams, shame we can't do a video read a long. Wurts is another series, I had read book one but never continued, would be interested in your thoughts. Shusterman is totally YA, read them first book was good, but... Ambercrombie is YA for him, not necessarily for others, LOL. There are so many murder mystery series out there, good luck with that. I read two of the Kingsbridge, awesome. The Pillars of the Earth has one of most evil characters I have ever read. Good luck in getting these all in!!

I keep seeing Threadlight come up, so I might have to check that out. I've never heard of The War Arts Saga, but it sounds pretty interesting. Out of your series, I've read Gunmetal Gods, Prince of Nothing, and Shattered Sea. For me, Gunmetal Gods starts off really strong but gets weaker in later installments. I haven't read Prince of Nothing in almost a decade, but I remember thinking it was pretty good. It's super dense with a lot of philosophical and political topics. Shattered Sea is fun but but mainly for the character interactions. Priority to start and finish for 2024: 1. Vagrant Gods by David Dalglish 2. Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons 3. The Shadow Campaigns by Django Wexler 4. War for the Rose Throne by Peter McLean Series to start but probably not finish in 2024 1. The Adversary Cycle and Repairman Jack by F. Paul Wilson 2. The Black Company by Glen Cook 3. Shadows of the Apt by Adrian Tchaikovsky 4. The Riyria Revelations by Michael J. Sullivan

I just started reading Memoirs of Lady Trent and looooving it. A lot of people have wrong expectations for that book, but the truth lies in the title (more emphasis on the "memoirs" series title and schooltbook-like book titles). So far it kinda reminds me of Farseer as it's an older person recalling their youth but it's not the Fitz's misery fest, so don't worry Almost done with To Green Angels Tower (been reading since July), and will be starting Junny Wurts's Magnus Opum in Dcember

One of them just seemed too comical, a bit like some villains in early days Dragon Ball, for example, and felt jarring to the tone of the rest of the book. Despite that, a few weeks after finishing the book I just found myself missing that world and fairly interested in finding out what happened next, and how the main character (and one of the anti-hero) would grow in both power and mind. @@andrewf7732 yeahhh! Right now, I'm thinking of trying immersion reading the next time I reread Middle Earth books. With Andy Serkis narration. Let's see how that goes!

I need to finish Arc of a Scythe. Kingsbridge is great but Follett’s writing has a lot of strange quirks that are really off-putting to some. I read the first two Threadlight books and decided not to continue because I found them mediocre and the characters hadn’t changed from the first book, and I had a bad experience with the author posting about me on Twitter, so just watch out because he doesn’t handle criticism well on social media. Gunmetal Gods is an epic title. I have it on KU but haven’t gotten to it yet. I want to read it just from the title. Lol. These are great choices. Excited to see what you think of them!

Bakker has one of the best settings/worlds in fantasy (from the realistic point of view on worldbuilding), but he also has pretty watered down narration (the weak side of the series), so you should be prepared.

Prince of Nothing is so good! I recently just started Wars of Light & Shadow and I'm obsessed. I just recently got caught up on Kithamar and as soon as I finished the second book I wanted to read it and book one immediately. I'm also interested in reading Gael Song and Kingsbridge.

Prince of nothing is where I drew my line on how dark a story could get. I read the first trilogy and I actually appreciate the quality, but I couldn’t go any further. I found myself losing sleep over the hopelessness and brutality of the world with almost no signs of human decency or compassion. Compare that to Malazan where compassion is the overriding theme in the face of horrific events.

Yeah, that's what I heard, too, together with its great quality. Well, I'll try and see whether I can stomach it or not. So far, the darkest story I've ever read is Berserk by Kentaro Miura! :D

The Matthew Corbett series by Robert McCammon is another historical fiction series you would love, since you liked Swan Song and Boy's Life so much. Imagine the quality of writing in Swan Song and Boy's Life but they're mystery adventure novels set in 18th century colonial america. First book is about a woman accused of being a witch in a small town and the magistrate that goes there to prove or disprove it. Really, really good books.

McCammon's site update for October says October 2024 is what he's hoping for but he can't say concretely yet. But generally "around that time" is when it will release. @@PetrikLeo

I've included it in my list of priority series twice now and still haven't gotten around to it. I decided to just stop it for now and read it whenever I feel like it! Book of the New Sun is a series that really require commitment, imo. I hope I can read it next year. :)
