Hi Dale, I bet there's some real changes when you look at those photos from 40 years ago... and then I bet there's some things, like the natural landscapes where it looks like time stood still.

Been going regularly for 40 years and this is a excellent guide for a trip to Cornwall. Hayle beach is my favourite beach in Cornwall 💜 ✌️

Great idea for a video - you've definitely got the authority to give us a top ten list with all the travelling you've done in the area. Love how you gave some honourable mentions before revealing what topped the list, those beaches really are something else! The South West Coastal walk did look amazing so I'm glad to see it ranked so highly. Great presentation and editing as usual!

I didn't know about the Launceston Steam Railway - I'd looked into the Bodmin one, but it was fully booked. Perhaps a train ride for next time? There are so many mines around Cornwall, we ended up going for the Levant Mine and Beam Engine as we were National Trust members at the time so didn't need to pay an entry fee like we would have elsewhere. St. Michaels Mount is something I'd love to go back and visit in the future. It didn't make the cut this time around sadly!

While Cornwall is absolutely beautiful and I love the place, maybe you need to visit Pembrokeshire? It's described as Cornwall without the crowds but I'd say it's a bit better than Cornwall. If you want a stunning resort then you have Tenby but if you want somewhere stunning then there are so many beautiful beaches but Barafundle Bay is the prettiest. There are so many beautiful beaches to choose from and the coastal walk around the St Davids headland will have you thinking you are in the Caribbean. Also near Pembrokeshire is Gower which has Rhossili Bay and Three Cliffs Bay. These two beaches are so photogenic and blow your mind away. Be sure to check that area out one day

Pembrokeshire is one of the few National Parks in the UK I'm still yet to visit - it's very much on my list though! I would also LOVE to go hiking on the Gower!

I'm sure it must be possible to tour it on a bike. Many people cycle from John O'Groats in Scotland to Lands End (Andy's brother did this a few years back) though I'd be a bit scared on some of the tiny country lanes on an exposed bike 😖 Thank you for the Valentines Day well wishes!

Good video! I moved here 8 years ago & love it. One of my pet hates though are Jet skis. They really disturb sea life & are now banned in many areas. Just the noise alone is incredibly annoying when relaxing on the beach. Moan over. Thanks

Such an amazing decision to move to Cornwall. I liked that the jet skis aren't so readily available to rent and you need to go on a tour as I assumed this helps to minimise disruption - we also went out very early in the morning with not many people on the beach at that time. If it's of any consolation, it was something I wanted to do, have done it, but not in a rush to do it again! Thank you for your kind words saying it was a good video 🙏

Great video, the Lands End photo where you have to pay to take a pic of the sign is worth paying the money for, although it seems like a money making rip off at the time, you get a nice well taken high quality personalised photo posted to you

Hi David - there's so many gardens in Cornwall, we really needed to pick and choose in the end. Because we were NT members at the time, it seemed silly not to visit the NT properties and figured we can visit some of the others on a future trip when we don't have an NT membership. Trebah looked amazing when I was doing research into the trip, so certainly one on our bucket list!

@@WhenAdventureKnox I absolutely agree with you. I am a NT member too. Have been for over 30 years. Glendurgan is lovely, but the things I like most about Trebah ( pronounced TREEBar incidentally not TreBAR, as I used to think and would be more in keeping with Cornish pronunciation generally ). Are the great swathes of blue hydrangeas, which go down the valley and the amazing gunnera, before coming out onto one of the beaches where U.S. soldiers left for Normandy on D Day.

Truro Cathedral is worth a visit

Great video. As a Devonian (Devon born) who has lived longer in Cornwall, I have a mini crisis every time I have a cream tea. On the subject of pronunciation, if you ever come across a lovely place called "Fowey" remember it sounds like "Joy". Pronounced "Foy". That's the one I've heard the most people trip up on!

Oh wow, the cream tea crisis must run very deep when you're from one county and now live in the other 🤣 Do people ever let you off?! I'm so pleased you've told me about the Fowey pronunciation as I've seen it on maps and read about it on travel vlogs, and in my head, every time I read it, it's never sounded out as 'Foy'. I'm making a strong mental note of this - thank you!!!

Nice bit of info and video. Though you could have put up a warning up just before I had to witness a scone being butchered the cornish way. ⚠️😂😂😂⚠️

Haha, in fairness, in my main video about doing a DIY Cornish food tour, I try the scone both ways and my final verdict was that Devon's way of cream first is best. You're the first person to have commented who has agreed with this! 🙌🎉

Great stuff, thanks very much. We've seen a lot of that already (I think Tintagel Castle is one of the greatest highlights of all Cornwall). However we will be in St Ives in September and what would be really good to know is if there are any good evening entertainment bars/restaurants/cafes in St Ives. I often think there is a lack of things to do in the evenings. So does anyone know of any good evening entertainment spots in St Ives in September please?

Hi Khatoon, thank you again for all of your support and still really pleased to hear my videos are helping you with your English. I can definitely see improvements in your written English since you first started commenting on my videos (I hope you don't mind me saying that!) and I think it's amazing as I know the alphabet isn't even the same as what you were taught in school - it's very impressive! 🙌 Yoga classes and weddings are very popular in Cornwall as you mentioned - though I've never properly tried Yoga and I guess a wedding is very much a 'once in a life time thing' rather than an activity to do on your holiday!

I strongly suggest "visiting the Cornish gardens" rank much higher:) Without these biodiverse, mysteriously charming gardens Cornwall would've lost half of her charm, I daresay. I paid two visits with awe to St Nectan's Glen, Trebah Gardens, Trelissick Garden, Lost Gardens of Heligan... I believe they brightly manifest the Cornish spirits, which signify undying spirits of elves and goddesses :)

Hi Mirjulla. The train starts in Penzance so that means you should be guaranteed a window seat on the best side of the train. We got on at St. Erth as it was closer to where we were staying than Penzance, but the train had come from Penzance originally. I hope you enjoy your visit. Side note, but I highly recommend the Honey Pot cafe in Penzance if you're looking for someone to eat breakfast or lunch.

Hi Arati. You pose a very tricky question there as it depends on so much, but I'll try and help. We based ourselves in 2 different locations. 1 week in Trenwheal which had nothing there, but was a central point to explore both coasts from, as well as Lands End too. You'd certainly need a car though. Then 4 nights on the edge of Bodmin. Again, Bodmin didn't offer much but was a good central Location to visit other spots on both coasts. We also chose these locations as they were significantly cheaper than being in the touristy towns like St. Ives or Newquay for example. If however you don't have a car, there's a direct train from London to Penzance (and a sleeper train 6 nights a week) and you can either take the train from Penzance to other towns, or there's a good bus network (including the open top double decker) that will take you to beaches, villages, Lands end etc. St. Ives offers almost the same but you'd need to change trains at St. Erth (very easy) Are there any specific places you'd like to visit, e.g. Eden Project, Boscastle, Tintagel, St. Ives, Padstow, any specific beaches etc,

@@dandellionsy6537 Hi Dandellion sy, this is really exciting news! Penzance is a good base for the very bottom part of Cornwall. GWR offer a sleeper train service from London if that's of any interest to you. You can pay extra and get a private compartment with beds/bedding. The daytime journey to/from London feels long and my tip would be to take plenty of food with you as my last experience was painful as I had no food, and the food trolley had next to none too! To get to St. Ives from Penzance, there's a train that will take you to St. Erth, you get off there and hop onto the St. Ives train that I took. St. Erth is small, 2 platforms for the long distance trains (one for each direction) and a 3rd platform for St. Ives. Plus the staff were really helpful when we went there. There are few buses designed for holiday makers without cars: www.firstbus.co.uk/adventures-bus We used one of these to get from Porthcurno to Land's End to be able to hike back and it was a great experience. The other thing you may wish to consider is a hop across to the Isles of Scilly. They're not cheap, but there's no car ferry so all holiday makers arrive car-free meaning it's a doddle to get around either using the boats services, renting bikes, golf carts or on foot. If Scilly is a serious possibility for you, let me know as I can offer a lot more advice on those islands if you'd like it.

Hi Khatoon. Is Valentines day not something that is celebrated in Saudi Arabia? You're spot on with things that make Cornwall well known. Definitely one of our biggest tourism hubs in the UK, especially for a non-city destination. The clotted cream, cheese and pasties are amazing, as is the art scene with photography and other crafts. The landscape makes photography a dream! But you're also right that it's a very poor area of the UK, and people who live in wealthier parts are getting into the habit of buying 2nd homes (holiday homes) pushing up the prices of houses and making it even more unaffordable for locals who can't compete as the average wage is much lower there. That whole situation feels like such a mess!

Hi John, thank you for your kind words about the video. Having a KZread channel has certainly been a learning curve with regards to place name pronunciations as before the channel, I'd only ever say it out aloud to friends/family around me who likely were also unsure, but a LOT of people have passed similar comments and I know to make a much bigger effort with this for future trips. I'm afraid I visited Cornwall / shot the videos over a year ago, so the comments hadn't come flooding in back then!

Where’s “tintegal?” TintAgel I think it’s pronounced. If u asked for directions in Cornwall and mis pronounce places, the locals will say they’ve never heard of it.

Unless one is into hiking and visiting small fishing villages, there doesn't seem to be much of interest in Cornwall, at least from this video.

Oops, I guess my real enthusiasm for hiking shone a bit too brightly in this video. Cornwall really does have much more to offer like food, beaches, beach activities - surfing especially, the gardens, bike riding trails, boat trips, historic buildings. I wanted to base this video on my own experience rather than try and palm off that other things are better when I've not experienced them for myself yet.

Your video was fine, very nice, in fact. . I think I was reflecting on things I have read and heard about Cornwall elsewhere. I love visiting towns with history where famous people lived, big historic homes and places with beautiful scenery that Cornwall does indeed have. To be honest, the large crowds and bus loads of people with backpacks is a major turn-off, but that might be unavoidable. Thank you.

From the top of the bus, it felt like the English Countryside with all the farmers fields and cute cottages you'd find in villages. Appreciate it may not be how everyone would describe it though! 🤷‍♀️

@@WhenAdventureKnox I just meant that Cornish would prefer to say "Cornish countryside". But yes, it's part of the UK and next door to England. My favourite thing (next time) will be to body surf. But for me the history is the best.

@KERNOW. .EXP. Something I know I need to work on!! Was especially hard when trip planning in lock down as I relied so much on reading rather than being able to meet other travellers/locals and talk to hear pronunciations 🤦‍♀️

@@WhenAdventureKnox Don't worry. You didn't get them "completely wrong" - that would suggest you got every single one totally off. I think the Cornwall expert is just getting a bit excited to show their knowledge. Your pronunciation was perfectly acceptable to Cornish locals for most of them. Just a couple off.
