Top ten bass guitar exercises to improve players' skills. Showing the exercises that have helped Ellen the most in advancing to a higher level of playing. I know we've already seen many of these; I know you've already shared how Ellen started learning to slap, for example. But you could condense into one video like this a dozen specific exercises that, when Ellen mastered them, opened up another big chunk of the bass world for her.

I'd like it if you started in, say, the 40s or 50s and went one year at a time up to the present and Ellen picked one bassline from each year that stood out to her within the songs from that year. So each video would be one decade. Obviously this would be a longer term project because Ellen would have to listen to a lot of it with the help of Hovak. I suppose Hovak would do some pre-selection of the most interesting things that happened in bass playing for each year, and Ellen would pick what she liked. It doesn't just have to be technically challenging pieces, there is often beauty in simplicity. In this way, Ellen gives us a glimpse not only into how amazing her playing is, but also her musical taste as a listener.

The simplest difference between guitar and bass guitar is the pitch range of the instruments. Bass guitar plays notes an octave lower than a regular guitar. Think of the song 'Another One Bites the Dust' by Queen. The first few notes you hear are the sound of the bass guitar. 7:24 [StudyBass]

Most of the younger musical phenoms you see on KZread have technical skills on their instruments that seem far beyond their years, and Ellen is no exception. But more impressively in my opinion, Ellen's "feel" for the music and the vibe of the songs is just terrific! The playing of some young musical wizards can seem a little cold or sterile, because they're playing it much more than they're *_feeling_* it. Not so with Ellen! She is definitely doing both!! 👍🏼

Ellen - thank you! Your videos inspired me to go back to my parents’ this weekend and bring my old bass guitar to my flat in London. I used to play it for hours each day when I was a teenager (I’m now almost 30!) and watching you play these songs with such amazing feel reminded me how much the instrument meant to me. I can’t wait to reconnect with it after 10+ years. You’re truly a joy to watch and I’m looking forward to following the channel!

Hi sweet lady - I have to tell you that I am so inspired by your playing that I have decided to dedicate 2024 to learning bass. I am 77 years old (been playing drums for many years and play in 3 local big bands currently) - your performances bring new life to the bass - stay safe and thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent. 💜 (Pete)

I first saw Ellen when she was 8 and did Tom Sawyer by Rush. She was 8!!! I was so impressed that I shared the link with an Armenian friend, who couldn't believe what she was seeing. Now, a few years later, she does YYZ by Rush!!! On a fretless! She still has that goofy cute smile that makes her so loveable, but it's her stunning talent that keeps growing. Dad did a good job with her. Kudos dad.

I put my bass down at around 19 after a traumatic injury that started my long battle with depression for more than 30 years. I was doing great, then all of a sudden... I'm still going through "stuff" 35 years later because I never got treatment for the mental trauma, but I'm hoping to finally put it behind me, and get some notes in front of me, but it will be an upright bass this time, which I've been researching. To the dad, your daughter is inspiring many people, and she is also preserving and saving classic Rock n Roll, and she has lots of appreciation for that!😊

Back in 1996 I played in the symphony for a DECA convention in St Louis.. We played lots of good music, but the theme song for DECA that year was Turn the Beat Around - Gloria Estefan. That's a good bass line, too.. We did Pink Panther as well. I also played bass for a Bye Bye Birdie stage production in 1997, which was pretty tough, but lots of fun. Played several operas and other symphonies and some "live" music videos during the covid lockdowns. Probably my favorite was either The Lohengrin Opera or Montagues and Capulets from Romeo and Juliet... You're a very talented, young lady. Keep up the good work.

Minor correction: Tony Levin wasn’t a founding member of King Crimson. He was part of Robert Fripp’s new version of King Crimson launched in 1981, though. (With Fripp and Adrian Belew on guitar, and previous lineup of KC holdover Bill Bruford on drums, this four-piece was one of the best bands of all time.) Your playing is fantastic, by the way! And your joy and enthusiasm are absolutely infectious. Also blown away by your knowledge. Keep up the great work!
