Hey brother Jorphdan, I commented 4 days ago "My biggest question is "Where can I sign up to play in one of your online campaigns brother Jorphdan?" and another account that has your name with some extra stuff replied to me. I do not know if this account is yours or someone pretending to be you to phish other users. Any way if it is you I would be honored if it is not you then it is my duty to report this to you to help protect the channel. Aloha.
This video needs two things: 1. A permanent subtitle what adventure is spoken about 2. A sequel 😊

@@Spectrefoxxiii that’s my assumption as well. I love the flavor of Acq. Inc. but sometimes it is too campy. I modeled a longer campaign based off their “The C Team” podcast which is certainly goofy but balanced with an intense plot.
I ran a mix of Tomb of Annihilation and Dark of Hot Springs Island and it was pure gold. They complement each other perfectly, both being jungle adventures on a volcanic island. I used DoHSI for the hexcrawling parts and used the campaign structure/premise from ToA.
I love the maps and minis for number 8 especially the printout of the crab !!! There seems to be a trend or expectation of having immaculate 3D terrain but you can't beat dry wipe grid paper, unpainted mini's and a 2D giant crab held in place with bulldog clips!!! Love it!!!
Fun fact: Out of the Abyss and Tomb of Annihilation are set in the Forgotten Realms just a few years before Baldur's Gate 3. Fun fact #2: The CEO of Acquisitions Inc., Omin Dran, Jerry Holkins's D&D character, is one of the Masked Lords of Waterdeep.

Fun fact #3: Ominifus Hereward Dran is definitely not one of the Masked Lords of Waterdeep.

In the present day time of the Forgotten Realms, yes, Christopher Perkins (who is the DM for Acquisitions Incorporated) confirmed it few years ago after he DM'ed an adventure where Ominifus, Jim and Binwin saved Waterdeep from a Tarrasque. Ominifus also appeared in the novel "Death Masks" written by Ed Greenwood (and the novel's story is set two years or one year before Baldur's Gate 3), which is about solving a murder involving the Lords of Waterdeep. Why would Omin appear in a book about someone trying to murder the Masked Lords of Waterdeep if he is not one of them?

Tomb of Annihilation is my favorite 5e adventure. Have run it 3 times. So good.
I mashed up the Acq Inc and the essential kit Dragon of Icespire Peak together and it worked so well to make a lighthearted fun campaign. 1-7

What was the highlight on combining the two, and what did you have to adjust?
@bigdbrown9137
Жыл бұрын
@@aqueousconch1103 The two combined very easily. They take place in the same area (Phandolin to Neverwinter), and last for about the same number of levels. Told my players in Sesion Zero to expect long periods between leveling. Acq Inc has a good story throughline, with little to no fluff. On it's own, its a fairly quick "campaign" that could be completed in a few short months of weekly 3hr sessions. Most of DoIP are stand alone adventures that tie into a dragon running amok, but not fully tie into each other. DoIP has better detail on Phand's NPCs to help fill out the town. DoIP has lots of places to build a home base, as requested by Acq Inc. Overall, its a really good pairing. I did make the Acq Inc BBEG a boss, the an Acq Inc mind flayer minion the BBEG. Changed his motivation, and re-wrote the ending adventure. But that's mostly my creative decisions more than anything required. I also added in a bunch of my own stuff based on what my players did.
The Dark of Hot Springs Isle has been a huge temptation for me. I'd likely do it DCC, too. I absolutely love the in-game item of the Field Guide. I wish that would be done more for other games. Maybe 2023 is the year I finally convince myself to invest in it.
Been loving these top videos. Been having me look at even older stuff that seems pretty dang cool
Ghosts of Saltmarsh is really cool. Definitely underrated.
Thanks for all the great content. Looking forward to everything coming up.
Ghosts of Saltmarsh was actually my first 5e purchase. I have played and run the originals a few times, and was quite pleased with the 5e update... particularly the detailed Saltmarsh setting which is easily backwards compatible to the older editions. I definitely think it's one of WotC's better books.
Hey Jorphdan! thx for the all the vids, they are very helpful. keep up the good work brother! love from Tehran

Thanks for the nice comment! I wish you many adventures!
Great video! Loved your idea of the shadowfell, raven queen and vecna. I'm running a Tomb of annihilation campaign right now and two of my players have, unbeknownst to them, things in their backstory that are connected to the shadowfell and ravenqueen. I'd love to shift them there after they hopefully have survived ToA and explore that whole thing, + vecna come on!
I was in a similar boot about FR knowledge. I always preference the DM that lore is what they make it and what the players engage in. Change whatever!!!
I neglected to notice Sinister Secret was written for more than 2 players, and immediately killed a player during the first encounter. So I used some plot contrivance to have one player meet up with a wizard while dragging his dead friend back to saltmarsh. The wizard agrees to pay for resurrection, but they cant afford it. Luckily one of the players is owed a favor by a rich townsperson (as taken from the character setup), who pays to have him revived.... but at a cost. As per Tasha's rules, he becomes their patron, puts them up and pays for hired help and weapons. They loved it, and thought it was all part of the adventure. Good times.
Jorphdan you crazy so and so, I've just started running Keep on the Shadowfell (modified of course) and I've been trying to think of what to run next, and you have just given me the answer. I just bought Shadowfell: Gloomwrought and Beyond and will be HEAVILY borrowing from that adventure. Gonna change it to a more alien, almost lovecraftian motif, but that's the one I'm running after this. Thanks for the inspo!
Say what you will about 4e but it had some really fucking good adventure modules.
my favourite campaign that I've ran was a thieves guild. The players all started with a pool five characters each , that they could pick from for specific guild missions. Throughout the campaign we recorded the characters progress within the different branches of the guild. It went for a couple of years and I think out of the 25 or so characters only about 7 survived the campaign. It was a total blast though
I enjoy the reasoning behind your list. Mine are a little more out there, as I love a lot of the Dark Sun and classic Ravenloft adventures. With your love of sandbox adventures, I would recommend looking into some of those.
It would be cool if you did a breakdown of the Red of the Sevent Parts adventure and how you ran it / what changes you made. Some of us unfortunately do not have time to watch an entire campaign 'lets play'. Mny Thks.

Sure, if people are interested :) Adventure Cliffs Notes?
Awesome to find out what adventures/modules you enjoy. Would you do another video like this next year if things change?
Thanks a lot for your list! I would have to check out Gloomwroth and Scarab. I played through Tomb of Annihilation, it is both awesome and nauseating. The whole time I wanted to be at the next chapter. I ran a sandbox myself in Cormyr with - sinister secret of saltmarch - moathouse from T1 - against the cult of the reptile god - sunken citadel Me and my players absolutely loved it. Now going into Tearing of the weave.
Surprised to not see Ravenloft/COS on a top 10! Quite a few modules here that I've never heard of and now want to check out!
I was playing in a campaign that used a lot of the elements of the Rod of Seven Parts adventure, that unfortunately is on hiatus. The DM not only updated the adventure to 5E, but changed some of the locations where fragments of the Rod were to be very interesting. Hopefully this campaign will resume in the future and come to a climactic conclusion.
I'm DMing OotA. Got through Velkenvelve, Sloopbludop, Neverlightand currently up to Gracklestugh. I've used Tales of the Yawning Portal, Dungeon of the Mad Mage and Radiant Citadel adventures while they travel between places.
With the right party, Out of the Abyss is a fantastic adventure! Invested players will have many opportunities to display amazing heroics or succumb to despair, every encounter we had was intense, but holy is it a lot of work for the DM, especially at the start, when you have to consistently and accurately play the NPC party members while selling all the dangers of the underdark.

I use FR, but I change things in an area to avoid player knowing what going on or where stuff is.
That map(i love it, it is much more accurate than most commerically available maps), Red Larch should be slightly to the South though, it's placed almost in the place where Westbridge should be(which should be like 9-10 miles North of where they placed Red Larch, originally Red Larch is place in South West of Sumber Hills not North it's placement is like 50 miles off) other than that i totally loved it.(sorry i am a map freak, even more so than Volo prolly :P, that map was the highlight of the video for me, and i will probably find it right away after this video, i refrain from AI stuff but that is fine...)

Saltmarsh should be in the top 10 D&D adventures of all time ... brilliant scenarios, hugely playable, with good stakes/rewards balance.
Scourge of The Slavelords series Against the Giants series The Deserts of Desolation series I have yet to buy a 5e module so no idea if any of them are good so your list helps. I have only done homebrew content for 5e so far.
Jorphdan, haver you heard of The Witchfire Trillogy back in the 3e days?
That was awesome. How about another 10 adventures?
Hey Jorphdan, would you ever be willing to cover a CR50 dracolich by the name of Daurgothoth one day? It's featured in a number of sources, such as "Sacrifice of the Widow", Dragons of Faerun, Cult of the Dragon, Draconomicon: Chromatic Dragons, and a few others. Despite being Chaotic Evil in nature, he vehemently opposed the Zhentarim, the Red Wizards of Thay, and the Arcane Brotherhood, just because he wanted to be the most powerful creature on all of Toril (not just Faerun!, that includes Underdark, and other the other lesser known continents. It's said that the goddess of magic Mystra knew of his power, but didn't bother to stonewall his progress because he contributed to magic more than try to destroy or subjugate with it.

@Jorphdan
Жыл бұрын
I've always enjoyed Forgotten Realms, Al-Qadim, Planescape, and Spelljammer! Not necessarily in that order but those are my favorites!
If you haven't played RotFM, I'd highly recommend it. The first half of the module is very sandboxy with the players freely traveling between towns and picking up quests that interest them
4:09 I reallty like out of the Abyss, but honestly the structure doesn't work. It's better to run it purely as an escape adventure where you're trying to get to the surface, rather than get to the surface and go back again to stop the wedding. It just loses so much momentum. But it's a great setting book.
Hey Jorphdan. Word of warning about Out of the abyss - yes, running it is possible, but with HUMONGOUS caveats. IT IS INCREDIBLY underdeveloped, STUPIDLY illogical at times, and - by its structure - assumes certain group behaviour, at least to a point. Thing is, it's already supposed to be railroady - and it even provides tools for that railroadedness in the form of the setting and its threats, but it's just... not there. Running OOTA itself (adventure up to escaping the Underdark) with a lot of prep and rewriting can be done, and would even be fun. Continuing it to vanquish the demon lords, however, is much worse, and should really be re-written by the DM completely, at least in my opinion. It's suffering from 5e's early module disease of WOTC not knowing what they're doing and if the system even should be salvaged after 4e, and there's not a single other module where it's THIS bad. HOWEVER. This module has some cinematic scenes and scripted moments that ARE good. And some big encounter, like Mantol-Derith. If I'm re-running the module - I'll do a completely freeform take on the idea itself (Demons are in the Underdark, everyone's in danger, escape while seeing the consequences, maybe get a glimpse of what's to come on the surface etc.) and only pick SOME scenes and plot threads, but discard about 60% of the module entirely. All the official modules can be salvaged and improved upon a lot. But this one in particular is just REALLY bad.
Port nyanzaru/dark of hot springs/ all would work so well for a DCC game..like port nyanzaru could be your lankhmar
16:52 hi there Jorphdan, your content is great, thank you for great inspiration and resources! Going to be running Curse of Strahd soon but my players are a bit higher level from their previous homebrew campaign. Yeah so here's a PDF I made. I don't have the rules cause I just took those from Gloomwrought but the idea is when something bad happened like a party member going to zero hp, or through certain story events characters would draw from the despair deck. These go away on a long rest. They're all negative (more or less) but there was a key skill you could roll at certain times of the day to try and overcome your despair and if you did you got a boon for the rest of that day. I spaced on annihilation, because there are many "Tomb of " modules I have been reading. Tomb of Horrors, Tomb of the Black Sand. It's on my list cause I really enjoy it.
Having run the Tomb of Annihilation I have to say it is my favorite campaign. Having said that, Out of the Abyss is to me what ToA is to Jorphdan. I don't think that you can compare one shots and shorter modules to campaign modules so I'll stop there.
Can you do a video on Klauth?
i love the acq inc campaign and book. though, i don't think you need to be an acq inc fan to enjoy it. a number of people in my campaign had never heard of it but were up to try something a little different. had a lot of fun. and i do agree the roles, magic items, and rules for downtime and building/growing a business can be used across other campaigns.
My number one would be Drago Heist, number 2 would be The Assassin's Knot, three Lost Caverns of Tsosjcanth.
So one question from all these lists is where does "The Veiled Society" (B6) fall into all these lists? This is often credited as the first urban campaign setting, but it hasn't received any love on these list videos!
Is that "Chronicles of Eberron" on the table next to you?
I'm really surprised you didn't spend the $20 for the soft cover of the Rod of 7 Parts. I have a feeling I'm about to spend $100 buying what I don't have.

Great video, I enjoyed that. Can’t wait for our chat on my channel.
Just found you on KZread and was wondering if you have ever run anything from Dungeon Magazine??
i recently started a list of people [which seem to have become more busy; releasing fewer vids lately] who might want to play more, rather than run games (if they have time for that even), and YOU Jorphan are in my top 3 ! Truly, making an allstar list isn't easy, but AJ P, Lex, Jorphan, and Jim Davis are at the top currently (Along with many others, like Josh Davis+Emma, Pruit, Guy S, Susanahgrace, Grant E, L.L.Lindy, [Nerdarchy, Monte Cook and Dan Dillon -while we're wishing ;D]). _I realize a lot of people are busy, and i can guess why, but if you stars yourselves can't play, maybe you can help put together a great show by providing some star-power, right? :D _ _One can dream. :)
I've noticed that these kinds of lists never or rarely include adventures for the other TSR/WOTC campaign worlds like Athas, Spelljammer etc. Is it that the modules for these worlds are just not as good, not enough to choose from or are they excluded for other reasons? Just curious.
@Jorphdan

I keep watching all these DnD module videos, all these lore videos, and my table just keeps canceling, and we get further and further away from experiencing it. I'm pretty sure I'm at the point where having a game slated is more detrimental to my mental health than anything.
Hi, if you like those because of the "sandboxy kind of idea", why isn't Storm King's Thunder on the list?

You could give us insights of what themes and resources you used as inspiration for campaign crafters! Hehehe Até mais ver!
I loved running Tomb of Annihilation and feel that it would be my go to sandbox at this point in my experience as a DM. Just picked up Saltmarsh and hope to give it a go. I'm particularly interested in it because it was recently added as an expansion to Dungeons & Dragons Online the MMORPG that my friends and I still play weekly. Of course, the latest DDO expansion, Isle of Dread, makes me want to pick up the OAR from Goodman Games and run that as well. The Dark of Hot Springs Isle was already on my radar. Definitely going to have to pick up Scarab of Death, especially for that price point. Thanks for this video!

What do you think of OneD&D removing Half-Elves and Half-Orcs?
@Jorphdan
Жыл бұрын
For some settings like the forgotten realms, it doesn't really matter. If you were a half elf you gravitated towards being more elvish or more human. So I think it works out just fine. For Eberron the half elves really became their own society. So it's a little odd to remove them from that setting. Mechanically.
