    THE ONION !! grilled onion is a staple in northern mexico carne asada culture. we usually wrap it in aluminum foil and grill it for less than an hour i think. we prepare it with green limes and salt, the charcoal grill gives it a better taste, that's for sure. boiling it just makes it lose everything nice about it. hope this helps !!

    i absolutely LOVE pomegranate, the best way to cut it in my experience is to slice around the pomegranate vertically. There should be naturally made lines across it and just sort of trace those lines. you want orange slice type shape. cut it open in a big bowl of water and push the seeds out of the peel!

What that caused was years of thinking if I wasn't miserable, I wasn't full. I NEVER forced my kids to this. I put it up, if they were hungry later, that's what they got. COOKED ONION The cooked whole onions I make are quite different. Can't quite say I have seen many people boil them like that tbh. I take a sweet onion, score it a bit on the top, then season it, brush with a bit of oil, and bake it in the oven at 350F (~175C) until it starts to get golden on the edges. Sweet onions will caramelize better and baking should reserve more onion flavor than boiling! I server mine with a dollop of butter on top and some fresh chopped parsley! 🩷🧅

    I loooove Pomegranate seeds in my winter spinach salad, and there's two tricks I use to peel them quick. 1. (least messy) is fill a bowl with cold water, cut the pomegranate in half and put it inside, gently start breaking it apart, you will notice the seeds and skin separating. Seeds will sink, skin will float. 2. take a large bowl, cut the pomegranate in half and face the cut side to the bottom of the bowl. Use a large wooden spoon and tap the bum of the pomegranate. The seeds will fall out, though it is a little more messy than the first option.

    hey Naomi! big fan from México here; when it comes to onions, it's a very popular side to have with carne asada. what you can do is wrap the onion with tin foil and put it on the grill (or oven) for a while. add butter and salt / pepper as well inside the wrap before cooking. they end up being very soft and tasty and yummy!

    I feel like the inspired post - she also almost certainly cooked the onion in the oven in foil vs boiling. I feel like a lot of flavor is prob lost if boiling in plain water (but you could impart flavor if you did heavily flavor whatever liquid you boil in) would def recommend you try this way Naomi! Also sweet onions are still quite savory and totally fine (probably even better) to use here!

    nar eksisi sos is a turkish souce tastes sour sweet and we usually put it in cigkofte, which is made from bulghur and spices according to your choise with or without raw meat aka beef and also we use it in our salads and pretty much in everything. an easy way to peel pomogranade would be making square cut on the top of it then cutting with the tip of your knife from corners to the very end of pomogranade. so you will have a tip that can be easily opened and 4 pieces. hope this helps you naomi!!!!! loves from turkiye

    it was so fun to hear you saying "nar ekşili sos" as a turkish person. it is a syrup made from pomegranates. we usually use that syrup with salads because as you tasted it is sweet and sour at the same time which gives a very rich flavour. you can try it with your salad sometime, i really recommend it ❤

    Pro Pomegranate peeling tip: roll them on a countertop with a lot of pressure. Like lean on the Pomegranate lol. Cut it in to halves and smack the shell over a bowl with the handle of your knife. Once it stops working, cut the halves into quarters and repeat the process. It won't get 100% of the seeds out but it makes the process way easier

    Persian here :) I recommend to cut and peel pomegranate like you would do with an orange. Cut the bottom and the top off, so you can see the departements inside the fruit. cut the fruit from top to bottom in slices. Seeds will come off from these slices easily and you won't waste the juice!!!

  • @Kesu123

    @Kesu123

    5 ай бұрын

    You cannot roll it like you would a lemon; that will crush the "pearls," and you'll be left with nothing but tasteless seeds. The point of peeling a pomegranate is to preserve as much juice as possible. Contrary to popular belief, a delicate touch and some patience is needed to correctly peel this fruit, not brute force. For those curious: Cut the crown and stem, then score the peel by making ~1cm slices into the skin and completely score it into 4 or 6 slices. Then break off the slices in half into a deep bowl to avoid splotching on your walls/clothes. I like to tilt the knife side to side to open the grooves up a bit to make it easier to break.

    For a pomengranate, cut it in half by scoring it all the way around and then breaking it open. Then over your sink flip the pom over so the seed part is touching your hand, take a spoon and whack it on the back and all the seeds will fall out into your hand. This is still messy but more efficient than picking them all out :)

    The best way to de-seed a Pomegranate is in a bowl of water in the sink. The juice stains countertops and sometimes nails…so if you cut it in quarters , put it in a bowl of water and just pull the seeds out by hand, it will be alot less messy and won’t stain anything. And the water doesn’t affect the flavor of the seeds at all or water them down. I find this to be the best way to avoid the mess

    TO MAKE THE BEST COOKED ONIONS: I recommend getting the tiny little onions (pearl onions, I actually prefer the sweet ones but they do have them in other types as well) you can get in a pack they are like the size of a ping pong ball, now you want to peel them salt them, and one by one wrap them in foil and cook in the oven or even better cook them on the top rack of your grill esp best with grilled meats and veggies!!! My grandma taught me about these I love them < :

    I'm from Iran and that Lavashak, pomegranate and pomegranate molasses combo is basically street snack here. About getting the pomegranate seeds out, you need to cut the pomegranate in half horizontally (you did it vertically). Then you hold a half in your hand, open part face down with a bowl under it and hit it firmly with the back of a spoon. the seeds just roll out into your hands and into the bowl. you do this till every seed pops out. Sometimes you need to open the half to get all the seeds out by hand but this method gets most of the seeds out.

    Pomegranate: do shallow cuts/scoring from top to bottom along the bumps (usually 5-6 for the whole thing). Core out the top stem going down maybe 1-2 cm, not deep enough to cut the seeds. Once the top is off, use your thumbe to gently but forcefully pull the wedges apart. This is where I used to stop and just pick the seeds out as I eat them, but now I soak it in ice water for a bit and then whack the seeds out with a wooden spoon.
