Tesla is number one for battery health but they are still 1.5% replacement from what I understand. So that means for every 200 vehicles 3 of them will need a new battery eventually.

Yeah that was my first question too....especially since I just bought a Model Y myself! If its from battery degradation was it covered under the battery's warranty? If so that would explain why he doesn't mention the cost of the replacement.

A serious PSA: In California, most rear-end collisions is always the other party's fault, isn't something to tempt fate with, as insurance claims is a headache already. No matter what car one drives, driving overly defensively or overly aggressively is not a good thing and one should drive to match the flow of traffic and no less than that. I do body work as a side hustle. I was assessing someone's 2023 Model 3 RWD in a similar way that got rear-ended by someone going at 45mph but couldn't react fast enough. The dashcam footage showed the Model 3 slammed hard on their brakes due to bumper-to-bumper traffic and trying to avoid hitting the person in front. The repair estimate came out to $10,000: That's not too shabby and luckily after back and forth, the shop was able to save his car from a total loss. The M3 driver (regrettably) was acting smug in how he wouldn't have to pay anything, and it's all handled. What he never knew that WE know is that it doesn't' take much for a Tesla to be declared a total loss, and branded. Perfectly usable Teslas with

SIDE NOTE: It’s only “free money” if you already had the full cash amount of the car AND kept it in an investment that earned at least the amount of your interest payments for the life of the loan PLUS the taxes you would pay each year in either interest, dividends and/or capital gains. -The changes to your insurance premiums. Even though you were not at fault, this accident highlighted the fact that you are an extremely high mileage driver. Expect your insurance company to notice. -Your new higher insurance premiums on the higher value car (your old had significantly depreciated )you are going replace it with. -The amount you paid for FSD AND the credit card interest you had to pay(unless you paid it off the next month) -The increased cost of FSD on your new ride -The time spent dealing with the accident, loss of transportation and/or rental fees (more credit card interest charges?), employment impact. I’m not saying you need to sue the other driver, because you can chalk it up to the cost of living in a first world country with nice stuff. But it is important to note that even though you received a check from your insurance company, it cost you far more. Best of luck to you!!

I just got my model Y back from repair after being hit while I was stopped at a stop sign. Initial estimate was over 10K. Final bill was $25K. Repair in Nebraska took 4+ months.

If I get into an accident, I just call my insurance company. They sort it out with the insurance company of the person at fault. I go get a rental car and start shopping.

The guy that rear ended me was in tears begging me not to go through insurance as he had rear ended someone else 5 years ago and his insurance was already doubled. My car was totaled by insurance with close to 20k damage. So no choice had to go through insurance to be sure I was going to get everything owed.

you had to replace the battery twice? is it the 12V or the main battery? Can you detail the events that lead to battery change, degradation? warning lights, etc?

why does it matter if the car has FSD or not if its not transferrable,, Its like saying my phone costs more because it has a charger, but when i sell it to you, you wont get the charger? Am i missing something ?

How much did you pay for the new battery?

I'm not surprised they totaled it. Plus even if you got it fixed I believe your warranty would be voided at that point so not worth it. I am surprised it didn't bring more at auction. Seems like these kinds of cars end up going to a chop shop for repairs and then show up on the market close to retail pricing. It is a shame full self-drive as vaporware. Insurance companies do really screw people over on that though. Better off buying a used Tesla from Tesla if you want full self-drive IMO.

Added bonus, you get a new car and can transfer the FSD to it. Act now and really save!

That is a crazy payout for a car with 130k. considering they start at 47 ish now. I feel like its very unlikely you would have sold it private party for that price or even on a trade in.

Rule #1 - When buying an expensive car always get gap insurance. Rule #2 - Never accept the first number your insurance company tells your car is worth. Always threaten to sue, and usually you'll need to sue.

Fenders are in the front of the car. Quarter panels are at the back. They will total it as all insurance companies do. Then they will resell it at salvage.

Same exact thing happened to me but there was no one in front of me so I floored it. 0-60 in 3.5 seconds with instant torque saved the day. I pulled over and let the idiot go by as I shouted at her with love.

Geico - clever commercials,s but coverage is pretty horrible. I'd never use them again. Actually, I called them for a quote on a 24 Model Y Long Range, and Geoco me 3x what I'm currently paying.

Rates will continue to go up. It seems like Tesla's are a very easy car to total loss, so entire cars being replaced drives up insurance nationwide

Who paid for the totaled car? Your insurance or the insurance of the person who hit you? If there's wouldn't pay with all that video evidence, you should sue. It would cover both your car and your legal bills. That's what insurance is for.

I really don't like Tesla, because they are basically like apple. You cannot repair them yourself and no calibration tools for the public. I have seen much more less damage and Tesla always says "totaled". If you decide to repair it it will cost more then 10k (yes even in less damaged teslas), because they do what apple does they replace. Tesla replaces the ENTIRE back. Basically Tesla is "meant to be replaced not repaired". Same goes for apple.

If you have a loan on the vehicle, you have full coverage. Hopefully you have replacement coverage. You were going to get a new model Y.

Tesla involved in accidents will cost much more as Elon switches to complete unibody gigacasting-- virtually unable to repair body damage for reasonable $$$ Also you had to have 😉 back neck and head injuries--

Tesla insurance costs are on the rise. Gigacasting will total out more vehicles and continue that trend. They already were very costly to repair even for minor fender benders. Basically cant damage them otherwise $$$.

It seems like it is too easy to total them... Tesla should look into how to repair them better or protect the battery, if this was an internal combustion engine then surely it would be fixable, right? Or the car will be sold by insurers to somebody in Eastern Europe and they will fix it there :D Only Tesla will probably deny the frankencar their charging network

If I was looking at reviews of any ICE vehicle, and I ran across 3 people that had to have their engines replaced, I don't think I would consider purchasing that vehicle. 🤔
