I was a body man for 9 years and even if it wasn't aluminum the proper way to fix it would be to buy the 2 shells because those intrusion beams can't be repaired. Any work to straighten those beams would only weaken the beam. The only other way would be to replace the doors with used Model 3 doors from salvage yard or auto wreckers. That was actually my favorite method because the used doors always came with extra parts and it was a very quick swap also painting over the factory paint was better because the new paint sticks better to a factory finish than it does to the filler primer we used. It would not chip as easy. Over all I thought it was a better job than buying a new shell but a new shell is definitely better than replacing a door skin or patching up the spot with body filler. What most people don't know is when you replace a door skin you still have to use bondo. When you fold over the edges with a hammer and dolly it makes small dents all around the edges of the door which you still have to fill.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad to hear that the results were good in the end. It's good that you were able to retrieve full the video footage of the accident. I heard that the last minute of the footage could be missing in the event of a major crash due to battery power cut-off, and thus the final segment of the video file is never closed.

Thanks for watching! Yes, so glad that I was able to save the video footage. Perhaps this was due to me being able to drive the model 3 away and it not being a more severe accident.

Thanks for watching! There is no estimating cost as long as Tesla is the selected repair shop. Im not sure if insurance would pay for just an estimate that you don't have Tesla repair.

I paid nothing for this repair, I am sharing the cost which was 100% covered by the at fault parties insurance company. Tesla did a fantastic job fixing my car, wouldn't have it any other way. And spoiler alert...I am saving $50/month now by switching to Tesla Insurance. kzread.info/dash/bejne/rKd_r9xshKXclZM.html

My Tesla Model S was just hit in an accident that was determined to be 100% the other drivers fault. Now the insurance company is threatening me that unless I use their discount repair shop I will be responsible for any costs over their estimates. How did the insurance company that wanted to pay $800 to fix your car do with the $3400 it cost to fix through Tesla?

Thanks for watching! Insurance always gives a low estimate from their adjuster first but as claimant you should be able to use any repair shop you wish to get your car repaired and that shop will submit a supplement to insurance to tell them about damage the adjuster missed after the repair shop disassembles the damaged parts. The supplement and labor rates should be within reason but Tesla and the insurance company can hash that out.

The first Geico estimate was just silly.. What a silly business practice by them. You couldn't repair two doors at that cost even if they weren't aluminum.

@@TeslaFamilyChannel That may vary depending on the state , I work for a Tesla certified auto body repair facility and our rates are $125/hr. We also have agreed rates with insurance companies for regular vehicles but Tesla is considered a specialty vehicle since you are required to be certified for certain repairs and the certification costs the shop over $100k

Thanks for watching. Teslas have a lower accident rate per million miles driven than any other car in existence. This accident was not my fault so this isn't a Tesla problem. It's a human driver problem. Autonomous driving can't come soon enough.
