Me, too. They remind me of something my grandmother taught me to make as a child. We would melt suet into molds and mix in seeds, or coat large pinecones with softened suet and roll them in seeds. The fat gets very firm but not rock-hard in the cold, and it’s extra calories/energy for the little animals.

In the Philippines we have something similar to your paper stars called "parol". It's our traditional Christmas star. The only difference is they are made of colorful paper instead ( red, blues, gold, etc...)
That is so beautiful, here in the states Christmas has become so commercialize we forget the beauty in simplicity!!! Food, family and the joy of watching children opening gifts and giving thanks🎄

We had paper stars in the Netherlands in the 70's when i was young, long before i had a Swedish connection (married to a Swede since 6 years)
Your home is so lovely! I love the Swedish/Scandinavian style. Here in the USA we can get a little gaudy with our decorations. You are so thoughtful to think of the birds and provide treats for them also. That is what the Christmas spirit is all about...showing love to all God's creatures. Thank you for this beautiful video. Hope to see more like this soon. Merry Christmas!
Sweden is SO beautiful in the winter .. I love how you use so many natural elements to decorate with . Your home is just so charming and pretty
My parents had a Christmas decoration that made angels spin when the candles were lit. They got it from a Swedish store. I loved it at a child.

I am named Maria as well. I live in the US in Topeka, KS. I LOVE you and your vlogs so much. Swedish traditions are simple,, heartfelt and beautiful. I love the window decoration idea! Simply gorgeous! Thank you for sharing your life with us...especially those of us in the US. Our country is so focused on ourselves and our self importance, it is nice to see how other countries live such better lives, because their focus is on living a good life without all the “things” Americans feel are important. If it weren’t so cold there, I would love to live in Sweden. Perhaps it’s because my ancestors came from Switzerland and part of them lives in me. 😉

When you’ve lived in different countries as I have, you’ll find that in each one, the citizens are all focused on themselves. That should not surprise you. Don’t get caught up any more in the whole Self hatred crap that some espouse. I was lucky enough to not just visit other countries but to also go to their schools in elementary school, so I got a greater sense of how people really, truly feel about themselves, their country and other countries. And guess what? They all think that their country is the greatest. And they’re not embarrassed about it, nor should they. I think every citizen of every country should think that way about themselves. Also, don’t buy into the notion that everyone hates America and Americans. They’re not fixated on us, but when asked, they might mimic some opinion but mostly they’re fine with us. And many Europeans rightly remember that were it not for huge amounts of money and many, many lives devoted and sometimes lost in both World War I and World War II, without us they might be speaking German now. Many want us to continue to prosper if not for any reason other than outside their own country and surrounding neighbors, American is one of if not their biggest single market for their products. And they are happy to enjoy many American inventions (like the Internet, and KZread, lol).

My mother’s family came from Sweden. Every year she clipped a candle holder to outside branches of our tree. After the tree was decorated we would turn off all the lights and she would light the candles. One by one they would start to illuminate the ornaments. She had 15 or 20 candles and my father would hold his breath until she put them out. It was beautiful and we all waited for the night she did that. God jul
Germany in the northern part does the same, stars in almost every window. And very toned down. I put candles in the windows.

Oh my gosh, thanks for showing your golden carousel-candle-angel-merry-go-round-and-jingle thing at 3:39!!! We had the same one in my childhood in Germany, I did soooooo love listening to those little metal twix‘ hitting those two bells as a child. That was my sound of christmas.... And yes, we also have those paper stars in Germany! God yul!
In Germany there is also a star hanging on windows, for me this is new, I am Mexican and I have lived in Germany since 2016, but I love decorating at Christmas. My grandmother came to the United States from Sweden when she was 4 and lived her whole life in a tiny town in Northern Maine named Stockholm. The Swedish people were given land by the State of Maine, where they settled and farmed. Every year they have a Midsommer's Eve festival to celebrate the traditions of their Swedish customs, heritage and homeland. I am so pleased to have found your KZread videos!
Churches are decorated with those stars on Christmas in India as well...
So lovely. The lights in the dark are A true symbol of Christmas. The paper stars are growing in popularity here in the US. So pretty!
Maria, I love your twinkly candlelight. You must buy your candles in bulk! 🕯 By local standards my outdoor decorations are very simple but I like them. I use solar lights and they are a very soft light. I have a small tree, a little one piece nativity, a lantern, and a basket of pinecones on my front porch and a wreath above them. Our small town really decorates big for Christmas (which I love) but my simple decor looks a little subdued. I do have stars in my front windows as well.
I think the sweetest Christmas decor is the simplest. A nice strand of white lights is the cherry on top
This reminds me a lot of traditional German decorations. A lot of people have the stars hanging and traditional wood carvings which are beautiful little pieces of art. In the last few year I also started to see the paper stars hanging in the windows in the USA. I’m almost certain people got them from IKEA because I saw them hanging in there. But you know this is a pleasant change because in here it is like brighter, more glitter, extra color, blinking and flickering extra decorations to the point you can’t even see anything anymore
I have never seen paper stars like that before! They're very beautiful, as is everything that you've shared with us this winter season. Lovely video, such peaceful music. Thank you, and Merry Christmas to you and yours! ❄️🎄✳️🕊️💙
I watched your Christmas tradition videos at the start of November. I fell in love with your paper stars. As we were visiting the UK at the end of November, I begged to go to IKEA to try to find one. It's now hanging in my large front window. The family kept trying to persuade me to buy the small star, but my heart was set on the big lacy one. It looks absolutely fantastic! On the fireplace, there's a family of tomtar. There's also candles burning, the fire is aglow, and despite the dark, it's so warm and cosy inside.
True beauty without materialism. It reflects the spirit of Christmas.
Simply PERFECT,,,, I WATCH CHRISTMAS VIDEOS ALL THE TIME I LOVE IT.. ❤️🎅🎄🤶THANKYOU 💋your little doggies are soooooo. Cute 🐶🤗🐶lovely music 🎶🎄🎶

This is the first video of yours I've seen and immediately fell in love with your channel 🎅 Much love from Finland! Also could you do a tutorial video of how you made the bird feeders? Just an idea 🐦
I have seen the paper stars here in the US but only very rarely. I also force the bulbs indoors almost every year. I love the narcissus paper whites.
Oh, how I LOVE your Christmas paper star!! Just beautiful!! Yes, other people also have the stars but I have not seen any as beautiful as yours! I love your Xmas decor. It is so natural and gorgeous and elegant. I also love birds and feed them all winter. I am so happy you will add different foods to feed other birds. I do the same thing.😊 Thank you very much for your beautiful video.
I love the spinning Angels with trumpets. We used to have one of those when I was a kid. Thank you for sharing your Christmas traditions. Lovely💕💕💕
Stunning, my maternal grandmother always place a paper Star in her Window at Christmas! Merry Christmas from North West Ireland. 🌟🎄🌟🎄☃️🤶🎅
I live in Vietnam, it's a tropical country and we don't have winter, so I really enjoy your vlog about living in winter. Your videos are beautifully shot! Could you please have a vlog about the interior design of your house? Interior decorating is my passion. Thank you!
I love your videos, Maria... thank you! We are seeing more of the big star lights in the USA because of the IKEA influence. I have a large star, now, myself & I love its glowing light. When I was a child, in the USA, many decades ago, families would just put up multi-color, warm glowing lights along the eaves/edges of their house roof & often display a multi-colored lit up Christmas tree in a big window at the front of their house. Back then, nobody used all white lights. The excesses of overdone Christmas decorations began in the 1980’s. I still prefer the simple displays. As you said in one of your Advent videos, it reminds me of my childhood traditions & means more to me, because of that.
Hey Maria, as much as I can enjoy really packed decorated houses like in the US, I also love your kind of minimalist decoration, it feels so much intimate. To be honest, it's been a few years since I'd like to find 3 scandinavian Xmas decoration I like : the straw goat (don't ask me why, I like it xD ), the star (I saw some at Ikea and I buy stuff from there but, I don't know, I don't want to buy this there as everybody) and the candle carousel (I also would like to find second hand or from a small shop but not some huge online store), that they could be a little more personal, so I continue my search :) P.S. So lovely the image with Doris and Magda on the armchair next to the fire place ^_^
your videos make me feel so at peace. especially in this exam time at university!

That last thing you said was sooooooo funny! Yes, they are 'over the top' - but yours is 10,0000X more elegant and beautiful. Yours are all REAL! Oceans of Love.
god jul, maria! i adore your decorations. they are all timeless and tasteful. i tend to be drawn toward the same style of decorating- natural greenery, candles, simple red, white and green elements. here in america everyone's version of "going all out" tends to be gauty and so distasteful 😅yours is so refreshing! also, when i used to be a nanny, one of the families i worked for had the same exact star in their window! they were italian though, haha. but it was so beautiful! wishing you a warm and joyful holiday season :)
Hi Maria💫 You're a good soul that put lovely effort to document the cinematic fairytale style memorable celebration.. And those tone down 3D type paper ornament/stars looking fabulous carry so much aesthetic appeal.. Greetings from Karachi Faheem.
I lived in sweden for 4 yrs in ealry 90s ( kristinehamn ) and i love swedish way of putting lights in windows not just at christmas but throughout the year with lamps in windows. I used to take a walk through my neigborhood and just enjoy all the lights in windows in the evenings :) I am now in canada and i always try to put lights in my window too :) especially at christmas. I loved sweden. I learned swedish but when i moved to canada i lost it cause i worked so hard on learning english. But i can still read most of it and when someone says something i remember the words. God jul :)
It is a kind of magic. So simple but at the same time, it is so beautiful. Your videos are much better than Christmas films. They put me in a festive mood.
The paper stars are gorgeous! And the little bird feeders are so sweet. I love all of the candles. You did a great job putting up your outside lights! ❤️🎄❄️🎍

Absolutely lovely! Warm & cozy.
Here in the US...we have small paper ornaments....but nothing like Sweden! I LOVE the beautiful cut paper decorations! Gorgeous! Love the bird decor/seed items.....wow! I guess i may be Swedish at heart!
Oh, I love your suet block with the decoration on top! Bird muesli. :) Beautiful background song for the video. Gorgeous lights in the dark. The simple candles and white twinkle lights are my favorite. I chuckled to see the string of lights down the driveway as your husband fitted them onto the fence. Yes, my next door neighbor puts all white twinkle lights around his porch pillars and porch railing. Then he has (electric) candles in each window. It looks so lovely at night and peaceful. The neighbor across the street has a virtual Disneyland going with every light, color and inflatable figure massed in the yard. It's extravagant (can't imagine his electric bill!), exuberant and fun. Definitely not peaceful. :D

In the Philippines, we have a star-shaped decor and Christmas symbol called a Parol which we also hang by the windows and entryways. It looks quite similar to yours except that most of the parols are decorated with various embellishments. There are even contests about it and prizes would go to whoever's Parol looks outrageous and over the top.

I've never seen those paper stars here in Italy. They're very pretty! We have a different yet deeply ingrained tradition, which is to recreate the scene of Betlehem when Jesus was born. We usually try to recreate a nice village, with many small figures of bakers, farmers, fishmongers etc, and even some electronic stuff like functioning springs of water etc. (Usually it is not very historically accurate, since we even put a lot of fake snow which I don't think really was in Betlehem... but it's christmassy!). God Jul Maria
So beautiful! Love the stars in the windows
