This is 100% why I love Dave’s videos: His unique, sincere, raw opinion. To me he is the best in KZread at this, even if I sometimes disagree with him like in last video about Note 20 ultra where he thinks it’s a reasonable priced phone, no phone is worth that to me. MKBHD has by far the best production and video quality but his opinions are sometimes a bit too soft and generic (and I emphasize “sometimes“). When I want to see a product I go to Marques, when I want to know what someone respected in the field thinks about that product I come here (and also maybe Michael “Mr Mobile” Fisher whose opinions also are very raw and honest). Dave views on things are always interesting, different and true to what he thinks.

Mkbhd is a talking head. Dave is the BARE MINIMUM for an actually tech literate KZreadr I’m terms of context - and what puts him above many on YT who are a lot better is that his production value is closer to Mkbhd (especially at the start when he used to do the more elaborate animations), when others may be talking with an in-focus blank wall as a backdrop. Every time he pops up on mŷ suggested feed I don’t hear anything but a baseline opinion which isn’t *expertise*.

The funny thing is that he isn't even selling a product he is selling an life lesson when you expect a tech video. He literally even say it doesn't have to be an expensive iMac. He is basically selling the idea of not waiting for the right thing to come along, but instead just go for whatever you wanna do. Meanwhile plenty of people who are watching this video work at jobs they hate and don't buy tech for some wholesome project they have always wanted to work on. Which is very sad, but very real.

Story time. The iMac was the first Mac I bought. I bought it used with all of my savings. But that machine took me from a poor kid to someone who was able to create, share and make enough money to live what I think is a successful life. My idea of success was just being able to pay for my own place and pay for all of my bills easily. And I’ve achieved that. I didn’t care about if I had the latest Mac. I cared about being able to make stuff.

This is, by far, the best "review" I have ever seen on tech. It goes beyond the technicals (as much as we want to know them) and gets down to what really matters. i think intel would like to hire you. who needs benchmarks and facts when you can sell a product on feelings alone? Don't get me wrong, this review is exactly the kind of thing people are looking for because the actual hardware in this imac is old and boring and if you're even considering it, you don't care that apple is ripping you off for the performance. What actual buyers of imacs care about is whether it's good enough for the work they do, and that's what this video answers. So no, I wouldn't say that technical aspects of a product don't matter, that's ridiculous and naive. But this review fits the product.

@@EMETRL You spec war soldiers are insufferable. Apple has never had THE most powerful components in the market with its Macs for the past decade. However, the value in it comes from its super optimized macOS and how seamless of a workflow it offers to creatives and general users alike. If you don't see any value in investing in the Apple ecosystem or never use any of their creative suite of apps, then sure, I respect your choices. Just stop whining about people making choices that suit their needs best even if it doesn't fit your description of what's value.

I’ve always wanted to make videos on KZread for as long as I’ve had this channel (over 7 years), but I never properly did it because of the reasons you mentioned. I wish someday to be able to fight this fear of being judged by other people. There’s also the fact English is not my native language, so I’m always afraid of mispronouncing things or not being able to put my thoughts to words.

I felt the same when I was forced to lecture in front of a 300 student class for the first time. English isn't my first language either, so i had the same fears back then. And the first class didn't go super smoothly not gonna lie. Then after a few lectures, it all of a sudden hit me: why would I care about those minor accent or mispronunciations. I was doing my best at my job. If anyone really was going to judge me on my accent instead of the information i was passing on, screw them. then as soon as i came to terms with myself on that, all the following lectures were a lot less nerve wracking. i even started cracking engineering jokes in front of them whole class. After a whole year, the students loved me. I ended up volunteering for two more years afterwards. That experience really carried me through a lot of intimidating situations. as long as you're doing your best, screw them if they judge you. :)

I am Indian and my accent prevented me from starting a youtube channel. Or that's what I would like to think. The truth is, I was scared. Who cares. Currently working on the one thing that scared me. My own voice. I record snippets everyday and try to practice everyday. I shared my snippets on reddit and to my surprise people actually commented it was good. This just means my fear was all in my head.

You know, there are a lot of people that don't speak English fluently. It could even make you authentic and relatable! People don't always want perfect and polished. For example Mark Wiens, he is a full time food blogger. I love to watch his videos because it's like I'm watching a friend doing it. Sometimes the focus of his camera is off or his kid is making sounds in the background. It's all part of who he is and that makes him unique. I wonder if he even does any color grading. Point is, just do it. Make those videos and be you! If you're not yourself and authentic, people will know. Wish you the best of luck!

This is beautiful. Thanks so much for making this kind of video. It felt human and personal, something lacking in many tech reviews. We as tech enthusiasts are always obsessing over the specs and aesthetics of products, but we often forget that we purchase Macs, iPads, etc. to CREATE things. They are a vehicle for our self expression in the world. The one question we should have when making a purchase is decision is: can this product best help me create the thing I want to? And the rest is history.

Dave is the absolute king of reviews. He is not your regular brochure reading or spec break down guy. He understands the users. In short, he gets it. He gets what a user thinks and needs. Experience is subjective, and knowing how a reviewer's experience was of a device in last 1 day/week/month is of almost no use to a viewer except entertainment and more questions. This guy on the other hand, literally calms your buyer's anxiety down and makes you friends with new tech. Love you, Dave!

This hit me right in the feels man. I grew up in the projects of South Boston; poor, struggling, a hard life without much to look forward to. As I got older, I got in more and more trouble and eventually dropped out of high school, moved out at 16, barely scraping by. But I was an artist, and a musician, and I loved creating, and eventually I came across a Mac, and I fell in love with it, not just OS 8.6 in all its bubblegum blue glory, but the tools that seemed to just be there to help me create and do the things I loved. Fast forward over 25 years and I have had a successful career in design and development, I worked in music (if you're a fan of sE Electronics microphones you've probably seen my work), moved to LA, and generally had a charmed life for someone from the Southie hood. I type this from my 16" MacBook Pro, consistently inspired to be better, to do better, and empowered by the tools I have within arms' reach. I love Apple for that. And I love that using a Mac has allowed me to afford to buy the badass gaming PC I love to spend my free time with, because I also love Microsoft! #OneLove.
