MY Sony SA-WM 500 Subwoofer - Intermittent distorted audio - Replacing STK404-140S with STK404-140
Ғылым және технология
This is my subwoofer from my own home theater. It was been acting up after being used for some time when it get heated up. I suspected the STK output IC and I think I made the correct guess. It has been working perfectly for the last couple of weeks now.
Here is the previous repair from March 27, 2019 • Sony Subwoofer SA-WM50...

Great video
👍....Steve. Well done.
That’s what you call a mains transformer. Cute cat.

Over here it's just a power transformer, everywhere else it's is indeed a mains transformer.
Nice! I have repaired a few of these, and have found the linking ground pins 8&9 on the connector (not IC), sorts the stability and/or buzz issue when changing to the 404-140.

If I have any more issues I will try that. Been using it for about 2 weeks now with no hiccups.
Kitty can now enjoy many more years of enjoyment, well, so can you.
Like always good video thank you..
0:10 "Holy dust batman!"
I find a lot of different ESR tables which don't usually agree with each other. Its only an issue for borderline ESR readings I guess but it bugs me that it is not black and white. Like ESR of more modern caps can be pretty low compared to some older caps but it does not mean the older ones are bad. Can you comment on that? I see your ESR meter has a table on the back. Is that what you go by?
While you have it apart, might as well change those large CAPs! ELNA, TOSS and replace with Nichicon!

Elna is known for audio grade capacitors.
I had one from new. It just sounded ok because i never had one subwoofer before. Turns out it sucked big time. It distorted alot. Really bad construction. Bad bracing. The amp plate served as one box side and so it leaked pressure and ratled. Very low power. Any entry level polk audio, wharfdale, kef, etc was clearly a step up.
Hi Steve, just wondering how you decided to add the capacitors to reduce the hum? What was the troubleshooting procedure that you did?

I intend on doing a part 2 soon. I will address that issue.

I am not familiar with that model. I would suspect failing capacitors somewhere.

Check the main fuse 1st. Check the output stage (STK) for a dead short between the B+ and speaker output, and the B- and speaker output. Also check B+ to B- for shorts. If none are found then check the standby power supply for issues.
hola, creo que tengo el mismo problema. mi subwoofer es un sa-wmsp85 sony no emite sonido. pregunta, como se le llama esa pistola para quitar soldadura?

Me too. I actually got it to make a noise the other day, but it mostly does what you describe. I was considering taking mine apart to look at the electronics. His earlier video was about the line in connector becoming lose.
It was making everything in this room rattle. I have a Sony 8 inch sub connected to my computer.
I was wondering how I can send you the hot plate?

You mean instead of one STK you have two? and you parallell the pins of both ICs. Pin 1 to 1, 2 to 2, and so on?
