My Sons Deserted Me for A Very British Cult!

Ойын-сауық

Rani Singh is a BBC reporter and former actress who found that both her sons - in their 30s - had left her for a scientology like life coaching cult (aka a very British cult) known as the Lighthouse International or Lighthouse Global. A BBC documentary that takes us inside the life coaching cult that takes over lives is being released at the same time as this episode to shed light on the cult, which has been ruining the lives of countless individuals who signed up. Rani's sons have now disowned her, refused to call her mum, and are in the thrall of the head of Lighthouse International. Her sons, under orders from and along with life-coaching cult leader, coerced Rani into raising a massive mortgage loan against her unencumbered asset that was her only security and lend him money he promised he would make sure was fully returned to her, along with interest. We talk about the similarities between the cult and Tom Cruise's Scientology, and ask her sons one thing: come home to speak to your mum.
As seen in the BBC TV and radio documentary: A Very British Cult, and in Kira's channel about the "life coaching" cult and its insane leader. Lighthouse promises life coaching to help people realise their dreams. But an 18-month investigation by the BBC found it takes over people's lives, separates people from their loved ones and harasses its critics.
Life coaching is a booming UK industry. There are an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 people working in the field.
Unlike many therapists or counsellors most coaches generally say they focus more on clients' futures. In theory at least, they try to help people work out what they really want and how to get there.

@@orangewarm1 Ultimately people usually come out of cults, it can take time but, deep down they know there is something wrong. Though that is oversimplifying it- the cult personality suppresses the real personality, but the real personality is still there, albeit sometimes buried deep. Leaving a cult is not an easy thing to do. As an ex cult member, I know how hard it is. It takes specialist help. It is so easy to victim blame. The ‘fault’ lies at the hands of the cult leaders, not the victims or their families. Well done Rani for keeping in there. It was the natural kindness of a friend that enabled me to begin to break free, 10 years ago. I am still working on its deeply damaging psycho social impact though!

The way her son spoke to the young man struggling with mental health issues as if he was internally laughing at him, very insincere. Watch the BBC documentary and hear what her son had done to him by the cult before judging his actions - shutting him away and only allowing him to speak in the presence of a senior member isn't exactly designed to make you able to stand up and be counted - and that's what they did to someone they already preyed upon .... So no, maybe their actions now aren't nice but we have to see what these groups do to people and align that with our knowledge of group psychology and then realise that all of us have the potential to be not nice in the circumstances that ensure that is necessary

Hello, Andrew. I hope you're doing well. Another great interview. I think what's most heartbreaking about this case is that they won't call her "mom" any more. Perhaps this is what bothers Rani more than the loss of the money. Rani comes across as very strong. She's also very intelligent. She trusted her sons, which is something that a mother should be able to do. I love my sons, and would take a bullet for them. However, I only trust one person with my finances, ME. *I hope her sons will one day leave this cult, and will ask their mom for her forgiveness.* She strikes me as the kind of mother who would happily forgive them. It's not about the cash, it's about the loss of her sons. At least, that's how I see it. *Shalom* 💜💗💜

One of the best pieces of financial advice about friends and family that I've ever heard: never loan money to friends or family. That doesn't mean never giving financial help. If they need money and you're in the position to give it and want to give it, then it is a gift that you do not expect to see returned. It saves a lot of heartache to think of it that way.

If one *lends* cash which is never repaid, the lender can become a servant of their own bitterness, which can ruin that interpersonal relationship. 😞 *Take care, OldSchoolPs, and have an awesome day.* ❤

Rani's sons calling Rani by her first name is an act of disrespect meant to hurt her, put her down and put/keep her in her place. Best wishes for the future Rani. This episode is my favourite so far. I appreciate the empathy you have for people who have been or are in cults and their families who miss them. Rani is so intelligent and raised her kids to be as well. It can happen to anyone. A lot of people judge victims of cults and assume they are unintelligent. As an English teacher, I loved Rani's use of vocabulary. It wasn't pompous at all. Haha. Whether I agree with every topic you discuss or not (this one I definitely do agree with), I respect your journalistic integrity and the unheard stories that you have an interest in telling. It opens so many interesting and important conversations. Most people in the comments are able to respectfully disagree. (Although there will always be some loons! Haha!) I enjoy reading the comments and seeing videos with views that oppose my own. I think your content is good at making people question their own beliefs, which is so important. We need to challenge ourselves for personal growth to occur. I hope Rani's sons see this and come to an honest realization about the Lighthouse Global cult they are in. I have never heard of this organization until now. I'm looking forward to the next episode. 😊

It used to be never use your own name, never give personal info.. now people freely put it all over social media, in chat rooms, gaming, and these apps.. people don’t think about the fact they are giving a random stranger deeply personal info talking to these ‘coaches’ or ‘therapists’ .. sadly until people start speaking up it will get worse and more will be taken advantage of.

I believe I know people who are involved either with this or something very similar. It usually involves these charismatic characters who convince those who want to get rich that they have to spend money (with them) to make money. It's astonishingly difficult to talk people out of it - they are delusional and the delusion is very powerful.

Excellent interview. So great you let her talk more. Gives the audience a better picture. I'm so sorry this happened to her & her sons. How evil these groups are because there is deliberate intention to deceive, manipulate & control. Takes a long time to recover & heal. Keep shining the light to bare the dark corners & shadows. Her experience will help other eyes be opened to the truth. She is not alone... I pray the desire for the truth grows more in her sons & in all our hearts.

    1) Rani is clearly an intelligent, warm and caring human being. I hope her sons realise how valuable SHE is before it's too late. 2) note that Andrew doesn't have any written notes. I think this is why he's such an exceptional interviewer; he gives his guests room to speak, making the interview conversation driven and allowing the guests to get across the points that they want to, without Andrew driving his own agenda.

Thank you for your work Andrew. Some presenters are afraid to use the word "Narcissist" and it shuts down an important part of the conversation. I appreciate that you go there. It's really not hard to identify them once we are familiar with one or two of them. They are all similar in certain ways- peculiar traits, as Rani says. Love to Rani, my heart goes out to her. This is so sad. We need self-protection and to understand how to protect our loved ones, and shows like this help us learn how to do that.

I watched your interview with Rani yesterday and BRAVO for you and most particularly for Rani. My heart breaks for this beautiful woman, I cannot imagine the depth of her pain. I have two sons that I raised by myself, and as Rani's sons have done both of my boys have had amazing University Educations. One has finished his Master's Degree and my youngest is working on his now. My boys, although as different as night and day, are the halves of my heart. I know my heart would surely break if I had gone through what Rani has gone through, and indeed what she continues to go through. My hats off to you Andrew for helping to expose this nefarious cult and my prayers will include Rani for here on out. Andrew the work you are doing on your Podcast is of the utmost importance, please continue your stellar work and may God continue to hold you in the palm of his hand.

The Greatest Threats To Our Potential - Our primary focus over these 18 years was never about making money, it was pioneering research into human potential to find out why 99% of people, including ourselves, struggled so much to let go of the shackles of our upbringing, and often the toxic families we came from. We found this was THE biggest obstacle in the way of our potential - the damage from those closest to us (including family and so-called friends) who were often well-meaning in their concern. -- that is directly from their website, says it all really doesn’t it!! 😢

Many cults try to find young adults at University. I once had some classmates who had wanted me to go to some specific event. My bells went off and I immediately and respectfully refused. This is heartbreaking that this woman worked so hard, as a single mother, to give her children wonderful education. This cult essentially stole her sons which is her family and her safety net. She’s a delightful woman. Wishing her the best of everything and hope for her son’s realize they’re being conned.

Oh bless her... My friend Claire has a beautiful daughter called Charlotte. At 19 Charlotte met and married a vile man. He set about turning Charlotte against her mum. Charlotte said some horrible things to her mum, truly horrible things. Her windows got smashed, she wasn't allowed anywhere near her grandchildren when they came along, she was shoved over in the street, spat at etc. It was awful and throughout all of it, Claire just repeated the same words "you are my beautiful girl and I love you with all of my heart". Six years later, Charlotte miscarried twins and she defaulted to her original settings and immediately called Claire. Claire rushed to her side. Today they see each other maybe four or five times a year, covertly in secret and Claire now sees her gorgeous grandchildren. Rani will stay strong and tell her boys, as she did in this interview, that she loves them and they will come home to her. Keep fighting lovely lady. You will get your beautiful boys back one day. Just keep fighting!

Well done Rani for not getting sucked into the cult yourself. As your sons had joined, and the group was love-bombing you, etc, it would have been so easy to have followed them and joined. You were too smart and too strong for their BS. But that's not to say intelligent people (like your sons) don't fall for these cults, as they clearly do. They just get unlucky and taken advantage of by narcissists like Paul Waugh. Great interview as well, all the right questions and letting the interviewee speak full answers.

Wow how brave you are! At the root of this, in my opinion, is that any contact with these individuals, sects, cults, even some social media campaigns are situations of inevitable harm and are best avoided in the first place. If we trust our instincts we have a better chance of veering around them. But to be there because your kids signed up wow that’s a tough one. Take care!

Rani, you are an intelligent, articulate, kind mother showing signs of a broken heart. Your sons need to be told the truth. You provided for them a roof over their heads, food in their bellies and clothes on their backs; along with a good education which should have left them at a huge advantage once they were grown to find work, get on their feet and be grateful for a wonderful parent who despite being left holding two babies gave them every chance to have a good successful life. No parent is perfect, but you deserve for them to realise you did your best for them. They will not understand what that means until they have families themselves who will no doubt go through the phase of thinking the same as most young people do that their parents could have done better. That happens every generation. Thank you Rani for sharing your encounter with a cult and how it has brainwashed your precious sons. Please God, they will wake up eventually. It will be hard for them to admit how they have scammed you their own mother while under the influence of that evil cult. Bear that in mind, because the truth is their critical thinking ability has to be numbed to have cheated you.

Yes, she said one of her sons was in his 30s… & living with his Mother… not a child. I feel she was somewhat “ influenced & love bombed” & was partially involved herself… this boils down to greed, putting a HIGH value on status & $$$$.. the sons were probably raised to HIGHLY value the mighty $$… scammers! Why doesn’t she want to admit it is a “CULT”!!?? It DEFINES IS!! Say it like it is!! $$$ is all their gods….
