Many of these acting "Schools" here in the US have affiliates with plastic surgery clinics here and in Mexico. The schools get a certain amount of of the money for each person that they successfully refer for surgery. It should be illegal.

He seems depressed but I feel bad for the mom. She did so much to her son and he seemed a bit ungrateful.

Lol, This sounds like a pyramid scam to me. Going into the business, not just acting; anything to be a celebrity, the company that you're SIGNED with is supposed to pay for those services. Nobody pays $4,000 for head shots. They are definitely naive, but not in a negative way. I do think they're victims, because older, and people in need, tend to fall for these kind of scams. It's sad.

Something to keep in mind is that the money thing is kind of a cultural thing. ^^;; Generally, in East Asia (I can't speak for Korea or Japan since I'm Chinese, but I find generally the same thing-) it's more accepted that you ask you parents for moeny or they support you until you're well on your feet. Paying for tuition is kinda a norm for parents, but the children are expected to "pay it back" but taking good care of them when they're old. However it can get kinda...frustrating. ^^;

@nini That's Asian culture alright! Seen it on Vietnam, Philipines, Thailand, Cambodia, and other places. That's why when the children goes to other places that's been known for their economic wealth, the kids always gets the brunt of every family craving for things.

I love how whenever mom stops talking because she is tearing up the cast talks for her to fill the space, very nice to not make her feel embarrassed to cry

Definitely the before picture was way better. He looked like a K-star back then but not anymore after surgeries.

The counselors made him look bad here. After all it's because of judgemental society of the South Korean that makes South Korean conscious on their looks. Another thing is they got scammed, obviously he felt depressed because all the hardship of his parents became null all of the sudden and he can't take the damage that's why he locks himself. You can't really understand depression unless you once or still suffering it. 😩

I think he looks not bad but fake. Our country has so many cases like this,or maybe all of them. Most girls look pretty after surgery but you can tell that it is fake at first glance. It looks so unnatural with deep scarring. So hard to say if its successful surgery or not.

I agree, I was expecting something worse but it wasn't even that bad. Imo he needs to get like a therapist or something, not being mean but let's be real here, he's really self-concious about his looks and is worried about what other people will think of him when they see him, he needs someone to tell him that he's fine just the way he is and to not care about what others think. It could be just normal people telling him that but it would be easy to brush off. He's gonna realize the reality and it will hit him harder when an actual professional is telling it to him. My brother experienced the same thing (not the scammed part, the self-concious part because he was secretly bullied in highschool), I gave him advice but he just ignored it and went to a therapist. The therapist said the exact same things I did but since he's a professional my brother finally listened.

It was a great loss to him and sometimes it's okay to accept reality. He doesn't look bad at all though. I don't get why he would be hiding from the world, he looks normal.

he doesn't even look bad, he looks very adorable before AND after the surgery. the things society has done to make us hate ourselves more than anyone else in the world.

Usually I get very frustrated against people concerned when watching this show, but I don't feel this frustration toward the son. He first recognise that he didn't know his mother was suffering too and I'm sure he felt sorry. I can also understand that he locked himself up, it's not really a solution but sometimes you just need to cut yourself from the world when you're not feeling great. And it's not her mother's fault. I can't feel any irritation toward them, I was just sad. I thought they were adorable and they really weren't lucky :(

I think he's cute as fuck and he looks so innocent it hurts I hope he'll have a better life in the future

All of you are beautiful and amazing with what you're born with , learn to appreciate what you're given , and don't do plastic surgery.

@Lanni Vi, sounds great but that's not how it works. It's the cruel reality that ugly people are ugly and will get judged for being ugly and treated less than good looking people. You can say all that matters is the inside but that's just being idealistic, the world does not work like that.

Imagine how serious this problem must have been for the mother yet they’re all laughing on set while telling the story. It doesn’t matter what they are laughing about. But this is just unacceptable and so unethical. Boo!

Yap.... I agree with you. I kept on fast forwarding it then when I reached that part I had to re watch that part. It was a serious problem and a serious scene, yet it seemed that he was goofing around. This is like laughing when someone slipped on a funeral. We usually laugh when someone slip in a party, but we compose ourselves when it happens in a serious occassions such as funerals.

Just like to say for those who say plastic surgery is still big in korea, its actually on the decline. Im currently finishing my CT2 training for cosmetic surgery and outlet statistics clearly show a steady decline maybe because its become a saturated market. Common trend is growing in korea for more natural beauty.

Very true! It's really annoying when people always shit talk about Korea being fake because it has the highest rate of plastic surgery but what they don't realize is that millions of foreigners come to korea to get plastic surgery and that feeds into the plastic surgery "rate".

Korean society is very superficial and have a high standard when it comes to image. That's why depression and stress is so high there resulting in a high suicide rate. This has shifted the acceptance of plastic surgery. Most of the idols you see or worship may have some form of surgery even if it's quite settle.

I think YG is good, as you can see there is BigBang, Taeyang, AKMU. They do not prioritise visuals but they prioritise their singing talent and skills. That’s what make them amazing.

I think he looks OK. He looked better before but it's not bad enough to be called 'botched'. He still looks quite normal.

This was probably the saddest Hello Counselor episode I've ever watched T.T. To be fair, though, he looked good before, and he didn't look bad at all too, now! I can see his guilt towards his mother, and I believe he's not a bad person. Hopefully he'll cherish her more, also start to live well from this point onwards and have a fresh start! They deserve that much. Best wishes :) Anyway, anyone knows what happens to him now? I'm curious if he made it.

another reason that their panel is made of celebrities is because most people (in korea) listen to them better than professionals (ofc this differs from person to person but many people are more open to listening to those whom they admire). they are v skeptical of medical professionals, especially counselors (tbh korea's counseling is shit, and there's still a lot of prejudice against mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety as well as many other illnesses). in my opinion, for this specific case, celebrities who are already successful in their careers as singers, idols, actors/actresses etc. are a good group of "counselors" to hear from. of course, i also agree that they should receive professional help rather than celebrities but for the sake of the show they should keep the panel the way they have it.

If someone wants plastic surgery they shouldn't be looked down upon guys. It's their opinion and body not yours, so that decision doesn't belong to you. I don't care if you get surgery as long as you can fund it yourself, and are not influenced or pressured, are aware of the consequences, and don't involve other people (i.e. just do it for yourself, and if it stuffs up that is your own problem, don't blame your mom!). Make an informed decision. I hate how the son begged his mom for the money, and when the surgery went botched, he blamed/hated his mom and it ruined their relationship.

It's not entirely his fault. His acting teachers told him that his eyes wouldn't look good on TV so if he hadn't met those awful teachers then the thought of surgery wouldn't pass his mind.

He was wrong to blame it on his mother just cause she paid for it. If he decided that he wanted plstic surgery then he would also need to understand that there ARE risks involved. some people get depressed because they cannot accept their "new" selves. Some even lose their eyesight because of the unforeseen circumstances. Rather than dwell on something bad that has already happened, move on. Looks AREN'T the only thing that can get you up there! And always do proper research before pursuing your dreams. You wouldn't want to get cheated by people or even regret your choices. Sometimes, our dreams don't come easy and they may be very different from what they appear to be.*Personal experience* Dont wanna spend your whole life chasing after something only to realise it's different from what you wanted and expected it to be.

all those people attacking the son should be ashamed of themselves. Everyone reacts diffrently to situations like this and some people just need space to come to terms when things like this happen. He doens't seem like a bad guy at all, and he's certainly not ugly. Sure it's sad for the mom but I don't think he would have ignored her forever. koreans culture is very taxing on the looks department. Its a very "good looking" based society. If youre not pretty or handsome you wont get very far in the acting/singing , or even if youre a hard worker you could be skipped over a promotion for someone better looking. Thats just how korea is

You need to submit your picture with your resume when applying for jobs, and people not considered good looking have much lower chances of getting in, pressuring many people to "fix" their faces. However, they are starting to move away from hiring using picture id's so hopefully the situation in Korea improves in the near future.

I totally see what you’re saying! I agree! There are too many Koreans that TRULY believe LOOKS are EVERYTHING. It’s really tragic and insidious to the soul. I felt so freaking bad for him. They were saying it like, “Yeah, your acting teacher lied and you never needed to get that surgery…” followed by their own amusement and laughter. Ugh! Disgusting and HORRIBLE. I felt awful and hurt by their entire demeanor. Could you imagine if you were that poor guy? I would have felt so ashamed, embarrassed, sad, and misunderstood….! SMH 🤦🏻‍♀️ Thanks for speaking up, I totally agree with you.

Sad how he felt he had to change himself to fit others standards. He was born attractive.Also his mother is so sweet understanding and patient, she's a very strong woman to keep on going through this and not to cry on stage. My mother would have snapped at me.

South Korea: Where a mother asks a television show what to do about her suicidal depressed son instead of taking her son to a therapist. Edit: Not blaming the mother, just the culture of South Korea where mental health care and awareness is seriously lacking.

they have professionals help too. And if it doesn't work i think most american people would go to see a therapist. But in Korea they think it's about personality not mental illnesses and even if it was, you'll be a person anymore but a patient and people will look down on you. Rencently the singer in Shinee died. It was suicide. He went to see a therapist first. The doctor told him he was lacking and what he was feeling was because of himself not others that it was his personality....Korea has a problem and until they do something about it, the suicide rate won't go down.

Just like Maury and Dr Phil. Dr .Phil has the least amount of qualifications it takes to become a Dr. He did the minimum required to become a Dr and is yet considered the best therapist ever because he has his own show. No difference its just television

This is literally so heartbreaking ti watch! People should never be pressured ti change the way they look!

I feel bad both of the mother and son. I genuinely understand the son frustration and embarrassment after being cheated like that but that doesn't mean to vent out all his emotion to his mother like he is her emotional sponge. This is unrelated to the situation and I'm a bit hesitant to admit it but I can't help to notice that his voice is soothing and I'm fond of it, and I must say I can listen to him as a narrator in an audiobook.

I'm just going to love myself. To be honest, this show has boosted my already decent self esteem. On that note, stories like these are always funny looking at the hosts who constantly pick on Youngja for her appearance yet try and get the people in these stories to be confident.

He looks fine! He’s chosen a profession that is super critical about appearance. The entertainment profession is not suitable for people who are not emotionally strong enough to ignore the harsh criticism and just continue onwards regardless of how horrible other people can be. The entertainment industry is HEARTLESS and only the strong will survive it. I hope he can find his inner strength but if he can’t then I hope he can try for a different profession and then be happy.
