    I remember when I used to keep two snails as a kid, I’m a teen now so they’re long gone sadly. I was at my nana and papa’s house and I was riding on one of those plastic tricycles with the seats that lift up. I found two snails so my nana and papa and parents let me keep them 😊

    Babies grow best in smaller spaces, it also makes it easier to do proper culls every 2,4,6,8 weeks. Runts have genetic problems that lead to slow deaths. They can either be crushed slowly by their slow growing shells or just get sick really easy. At some point you won't want eggs anymore so crush them as soon as you find them and feed them back to the snails for protein and calcium. Are you feeding them a protein source? They need it about 2x a week. Hope this helps someone.......

    @@LorisHartland should work ok I've seen people do that. I've seen hemp seeds or pumpkin seeds or soaked rolled oats too. You can also get premade protein mixes but I make my own. 6tbs hemp seeds 4tbs corn meal 5tbs rolled oats 2tbs sunflower seeds then if you want to add a flavor 1tbs of that ( like freeze dried apples or veggies as long as it doesn't have salt or additives) but 3tbs total of added flavor I haven't tried other ratios I soak it for 10min before feeding it and my snails love it

    When I was on a walk like 2 days, I saw some pretty big snails and I got really happy and just stayed with them for like 5 mins . But now that I think about it ,I regret not taking them. :( I even took pictures because one of them got on my hand ❤️ but next time I’ll for sure get some and take them home !

    It’s funny. I would have never ever thought I would one day be into snails but my son has allergies to dogs and cats so we have a crested gecko, a Herman’s tortoise, 2 musk turtles, a jumping spider, 7 regular land snail and now we have a giant African land snail. Which I know is not allowed where I am but I’m not releasing it or anything. My son is in love with him. He named him Gary and within a week of Gary being here he laid a ton of eggs!!! Which I’ve mostly frozen 😩. Sad but I mean they aren’t even supposed to be here. My son is going to be so upset when he realizes I only kept a couple. But yeah we had 3 guppies and decided to get 3 mystery snails a couple years ago and I’ve never once had a snail. Land snail or aquatic but after we got those 3 I was hooked. I could sit and watch them all day as well. It’s just relaxing. It’s so weird too when you have like 5 or 6 land snails crawling up your arm lol. Totally totally never thought I would ever fall in love with snails! I’m new to your channel too so I’m going to have to find some of your Pac-Man frog videos I keep reading about in the comments.

    We have four Helix Aspersa snails. They started as itty bitty things and are half grown now two months into owning them. Waiting for them to grow up then have a batch of babies so we can have some more 😂 We adore them and they’re actually pretty curious and fun.

    I have 8 Helix Aspersa and I would be careful once they start mating. Their clutches will produce 80-120 snails each time! My snails also mate constantly and have laid 4 rounds of eggs just since December. If you are going to be a long term snail owner, "culling" (freezing the eggs and then disposing of them before they develop) is a necessary thing unless you plan to house and feed thousands of snails.

  • @emilyhatheway2294

    @emilyhatheway2294

    @@katiemeier4151 thank you! Yes, we will be culling a good majority of eggs and going through the process of culling runts when a batch hatches. Though my plans are to crush the eggs and feed them back since it’s a good source of nutrients for the snails.

    Hello! I know this video has been up awhile so you might not see this, but I thought I’d give you some info on your inbreeding question! The answer is that snail inbreeding is definitely a thing! Grove Snails are all hermaphrodites, but they do still need another snail to mate with in order to produce eggs. Meaning that, like with most animals, babies can fall victim to inbreed genes. A great example of this in snails are the Giant African land snail. Within the pet trade a lot of them have been inbred/poorly bred leading them to have much shorter life spans and smaller sizes (with most now maxing out at 3 inches instead of 8 and only living half as long as their wild caught counterparts). So yes, if you would like to breed multiple generations, it would be best to not breed snails with the same parents with each other. Though I think it may take a couple generations for any really obvious gene based problems to be noticeable.

    I wonder if these snails would eat those spirulina based veggie wafer fish food? Might be a lot cheaper than buying fresh produce. It's worth a try. Plus the spirulina blows away all other vegetables in nutritional value. Then there is also the Alfalfa based rabbit pellets which contain calcium carbonate.

    Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. It's not about following the law - perfectly, as it's impossible - it's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Regardless of what you've done or what you're going through you CAN make it through Jesus. If you have any questions let me know
