We make vegetables like this in Nigeria and kids don't have the problem of "not wanting to eat their vegetables". I've always taught "well why would they want to eat it? It's bland" when I see videos online from other parts of the world where they just chunk random vegetables into a bowl.

Corn starch (arrowroot works too) is a very common way to thicken a sauce. A lot of people like it, but I’m not always a fan. It’s too saucy. I’m a dry gorl heh
I honestly think the reason why kids in the west tend to dislike vegetables is because they never season them right. It’s bland and soft, sometimes only flavored with salt or just eaten directly. I never understood why they were so hated until I tried them in school and realized how bad they tasted…at home the sauce always made it really good, and I loved the texture.
Great video as always! I love the vibrant green color of vegetables like broccoli when you blanch them
Not only a great sauce thickener, but makes everything look glossy and appetizing!! 😋

One thing to remember about starches like corn starch is that its heat activated. Aka, cook everything how you want it first because the sauce will thicken in about a minute.

@fayemyles4942

What is arrowroot?
@abowling5759
Жыл бұрын
@@fayemyles4942 Arrowroot powder is a white, powdery starch that’s naturally gluten-free, grain-free, vegan and paleo-friendly. It is extracted from the root of a tropical plant known as Maranta arundinacea. When the root is harvested, it looks pretty similar to cassava root, or yucca, so it's oblong in shape. It’s used as a thicken in gravies and sauces.
@Anmolnegi-yw7hg

Yep we use arrowroot powder in india too
Has been a part of my cooking for years. I use it where ever flour is asked for to thicken.
I see from the comments, that potato starch and arrowroot may be good replacements for cornstarch.
Looks so pretty and colourful! I wish I had a wok. I'm positive it makes a difference! Anyone else agree? What really is the difference between a wok and a simple frying pan?

Thanks 😄 best way to make kids eat veggies
This is the fastest, most delicious meal to make. The most time consuming part is cutting up the veggies. Then it's 5 minutes and dinner is done. I sometimes have the veggies already cut up in a container the day before with the sauce in a ziplock snack bag. If your rice is ready, it literally takes 5 minutes to put on the table. Don't forget sesame seeds on top! Thanks for this fantastic recipe!
Used the sauce on some broccoli and I must really say thank you LOL, because I struggle with eating vegetables and I was able to do it with your sauce 😁

Thanks for this. I use lemon pepper a lot and seasonings like that. I'll try your method.
I don't know what corn starch is, but I add salt in the water, then garlic and onion in the oil/butter and seasoning (pepper, chilli powder, salt usually). And grate cheese over them at the end.

I just steam them and they taste phenomenal

I did this very often when I was a maid in Singapore
It’s undercooked and you can taste the cornstarch - you need to sauté it longer
A big thank you from Oregon ☺️ yum.
Looks good definitely trying thank you 😊
Its a good method. My criticism is that the veg could be cooked a bit softer, no the color isn't lost. It is possible to have tender veg with strong color.
