In Finland, Helsinki, Scania's workshop in Konala has a disassembly facility in the same connection. You can get parts for even older trucks there. It is very rare for these to leak a head gasket. Usually the fault is in the block that it is corroded. And welcome to Finland. I really like these Scania videos and if I'm honest I only watch them on this channel

Hi Bruce, congratulations on your Scania 144-530. I have had several of them when they were new, the one you have there is the first model 144, you can see it on the front grill, it is not the same as the red one you have, it is with it (new muzzle), in a Scania 530 V8 you don't have to use all the gears, empty tractor you can start in 1 high and high split and switch to 3 high low split and then in high split, then you will find that it starts howling and out of the exhaust pipe, when you skid gear, when you can make it howl when you change gear you can drive Scania 530 V8, you can try searching here for Scania 144 530 v8 straight tube, then you will see and hear how a 530er should sound when can drive in them. you can check the serial style number on the left door, it's the long number you need to look at, it should say 530 or 460 in the middle of the number, you can see how many horses it has 530 hp or 460 if it's a 460 hp it doesn't howl when you change gear as it runs with a different turbo. so good luck with it and see if you can get it to howl when you shift gears.👍

usually the head gasket isn't leaking, its the cylinder sleeve's upper o ring, or the cylinders wall has started to deteriorate so maybe it need's to be bored to an upper size. Yes you can bore just one cylinder and get the bigger size sleeve. same size piston so the piston doesen't need to be replaced if there isn't anything wrong with it. with best regards an Scania mechanic in Finland

Here in Finland, in the countryside where I live, there are these old Scanias on farms driving beets and grain. Huvittavaa miten tämmönen vanha Scania lyö tuolla Amerikassa ällikällä. The night cab heater is likely to be one of the Webasto units, and there should be a control panel for it in the cab ( usually near or close to the bed compartment) usually a digital control panel, where you can set the heat/time etc, they run on the diesel from the main tank, and are pretty darn good when they work as they should, they still fit those units to modern day trucks and motorhomes, so finding spares for repairs shouldn't be an issue, trust me, they keep the cab toasty of a cold and frosty night.

Pro tip from a marine engineer, get some copper pipes and press them flat and use them to scratch the soot build up loose from the inside the sentrifuge purifier. The copper tools will not scratch the sentrifuge like other steel or carbide tools will and you do not want scratchers inside the purifier cause that will make the soot stick Harder to the inside and make it more dificult over time to clean. Also u can use a special kind of paper inside these purifiers that the soot will stick to instead of having it stick to the purifier casing👍🏼

Back in Brazil due to some regulations like in Europe after 2000 all trucks are cabovers', Scanias, Volvos, Iveco etc. Not a big deal but shops used to strap the cab to the frame after jacking it in case it flips foward also using a long 4x2 or someting to hold it in place in case the original piston goes back while doing maintence on engine. Im not a technician of any kind but had a buddy that was at a truck shop. Good luck with the truck, great content as always.

A neat feature of the Scania you have, (i am an old Scania/Volvo/MAN driver from Denmark/Norway), is that when you get in you can leave your shoes on the steps, and when you close the door the way the door is made your shoes are secure on the steps. Like leaving your shoes on the porch when you walk into your house. I saw a guy who had run his AC/heater vent down there so you could have nice warm/dry shoes to step into when you get out of your truck to do loading whatever. A "fun" detail here is that the MAN trucks don't cover the bottom step, so if you are used to driving Scania and swap to a MAN you loose the shoe on the bottom step.....

Just love the channel. So nice to see SCANIA entusiasts like Bruce and friends in the US. I drive a SCANIA truck for a living in Northern Sweden. Been runnin' for 29 years now. That beeing said; i have had time to learn how SCANIA trucks works for a long time. Bruce is still figurering things out about theese beasts. (And i must say: Doing this very well.) Everytime he hits a snug: I just wanna jump into the screen and help him out! The three position boogie lift button is: UP and DOWN (obvious). The middle position is DRIVE/RIDE -mode; when pulling heavy cargo. It distributes the air evenly to both rear axels. (It plants both feet at the back so to speak.) Theres also a extra button for manually distributing air to the drive axel. To get more grip/traction on slippery or muddy roads. Can't wait to see Bruce visiting Finland. He'll for sure get some really solid knowledge on SCANIAS there. And hopefully he'll also get to test drive some really cool SCANIAS in Finland. -SAUNA and SCANIA = Hair on chest!

Hey man! Getting stressed out about your shifting 😅 you don´t have to start on C all the time, that´s only for when you pull heavy loads, or start in a steep hill or stuff like that. Now, when your split is functional, start on 1H, skip to 3L and then go to 4 L/H and then up. Or, you can start on 2L and jump to 4L if you want to rev it a bit more on the low gears. And, you don´t need to slip the clutch when starting, just release the clutch slowly and let the tourqe do the job. And also, go slow when shifting. Wait 1 sec in neutral between the gears and you won´t bust those sync.rings. Optimal shifting range is about 1400-1700rpm. Keep up the good work! looking forward to see what you get up to with that old bad boy!
