My REAL THOUGHTS on Racing the STARK VARG at World Vets...

Gypsy Gang! We are back for another epic episode of the podcast and my guest today is none other than hard enduro legend Cody Webb. I first met Cody location scouting for his first big Red Bull project back in 2016 and we have been friends ever since. With his unique trials background, Cody was one of the pioneers of American hard enduro and enduro-x and has won titles in each discipline. Cody is also a qualified engineer, and continued with his degree while also training as a racer full time.

Here in Massachusetts everything gets shut down because of noise. Even building a track on private property gets denied. The few people who have those electric Ktms here ride everywhere with almost no issue. I look at these bikes as saving the sport in places like this.

Yep. I'm in New England and ride in MA a lot, noise is the main issue. These E bikes are great for the sport.

It might help for a while but then the noise complaints will turn to dust or soil erosion complaints. People will find new things to complain about. Look at Oceano dunes in California. They are fighting to keep it open because people claim the sand particle pollute the air in the city closest to it.

I wouldn’t mind riding electric bikes for fun, but as a fan now who grew up racing in the 90s during the 2 stroke era and now the 4 stroke and all the sick sounds of the tricked out bikes, especially a perfectly tuned 2smoke, and also just the smell of that racing gas in the air.. I just can’t get behind the thought of electric bikes racing. The silence, no smell, just a lot of the biggest factors that fans love just won’t be there. I get the benefits to them for keeping or opening tracks and new venues that would probably come up, and indoor races not having to worry about those fumes, and maybe the ease of maintenance (not sure how much easier they are, I’m no mechanic), but as a fan I just don’t know. I don’t see it being fun to watch anymore.

it's about the motor inertia, of which the electric motor has very little (couple kgs of spinning iron core), that's what makes it so flickable. But when you lose traction in hard enduro, the wheel speed jumps abruptly, as there's little holding it back from going straight to 60mph. That's why the Alta had the "flywheel effect", essentially limiting the rate of acceleration of RPMs.

This is going to be the next big thing. We need the AMA to get out the dark ages and quit stifling technological advancement.

A rode the KTM electric bike, which nothing compared to the Stark, but it was super fun on the tight trails. Ran short of power on the straightaways , but still a neat bike. The Stark has to be an incredible machine to ride. I liked the rear handbrake, too

Dude those updates, no signal and log ins, that’s wild. Eff that. Got enough of that on my phone and now on a dirtbike especially in the woods? Nahhh man

I would absolutely run the circuit breaker tether with the stark. I wish it had a clutch actually. There is an electric trials bike with one.

The energy density of the best battery's is about 1/6th that of gasoline. Therefore there will always be a significant compromise of either weight, range, or power. Not to mentioned recharge time. This applies to ANY electric vehicle. No exceptions, no workarounds, no bs. Sorry ppl.

No one is denying that. The flip side is a 60lb electric motor can make 900hp, and electric is 3x as efficient.

The same people who were on the 4stroke bandwagon are the ones on this electric wagon. Im gonna sit back when your ready to get off in about 7 years. When all the high hour problems come to the surface.

It just gets me that all these people act like its got all this horsepower over gas powered bikes. Hello , its because they have a displacement limit on gas burners. Line the stark up against a strung out 700 2stroke or 4 stroke. Its just comical to me that people make out like it some ground breaking thing. Put the same restraints on it as they do on the other bikes. You have rekluse auto as well so you can get the same things out of gas burners. Its just the ama puts limits on the manufacturers to not produce 80hp gas burners. Years ago it was against the rules to run an automatic in offroad racing.

It’s an agenda man, they pushing the electric stuff. You gotta log in and do updates and crap on the stark. Of course they will make it look appealing. They want all electric for everything. 1 switch and turn it off.

I bought a Varg to add to my bikes, not to replace my gas bikes, and to ride around my neighborhood and urban areas with no one even knowing. I think people automatically get caught up in it thinking it has to be one or the others. Nah, one of each please.
