My Queen Ants Formed a "Mean Girls" Club | The Queen Ant Sorority

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

I created a sorority of several queen yellow crazy ants (Anoplolepis gracilipes) and watched how they would react to living together in a group all raising their eggs together. The social structure of pleometrotic ants was staggering and I was shocked to see the queens form a 'Mean Girls' gang. The whole situation took me back to some traumatic times in high school. Hope you enjoy and learn a few things from this week's episode. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

    I realized that Queen Amy is actually missing part of her leg. She may have moved away from the group due to the other queens attacking her. Let's hope that Queen Amy will be safe, and not dead. Also, I have a name suggestion for them: -The Golden Flare

  • @ballpro126
    @ballpro12611 ай бұрын

    Tbh, I find it most likely Amy is infertile along with the other dead queens you removed. It's also possible the surviving queens determined there wasn't enough space or resources to support more than those they have left. I also find it more lively the 2 queens "checking" on Amy are more likely making sure she hasn't moved since the last time they checked her and that she was likely dragged into that spot by the others. Survival of the new colony is paramount to them all at this point and an infertile queen would only be a hindrance and burden. Just a different possible perspective on it though.

I think we should separate the Queen Amy before she's killed. Then again, she may have been injured before released into the set up.

    Interestingly enough, some ant species, like Myrmecocystus mexicanus, do form queen sororities during the colony founding period, but with those species this sorority is short lived and one queen (usually the original inhabitant of the claustral chamber) will start killing the others until she is only one left

    AntsCanada... I am rooting for Amy and her 2 friends. If the driving off behavior is truly occurring I hope the more dominant queens drive off Amy's 2 friends and then Amy and her friends start a colony together. As mean as that may sound it would offer the 3 most kind queens a greater chance to thrive.

  • @Tri7on

    @Tri7on

    11 ай бұрын

    I don't think they'll go anywhere. By the sounds of it, they drive them to another part of the nest, and once antscanada moves them to a proper terrarium there will be no shot of distinguishing them from other queens, so if the alpha queens want those ones dead, they will be. Careful what you wish for haha. It's not like they're in the ground and can just leave and make a new colony, that's make believe xD

  • @fallenarchangelgaming3621

    @fallenarchangelgaming3621

    11 ай бұрын

    @Tri7on it's funny as hell you don't think that if the other two girls are driven off that our boi won't separate the 3 from the more dominant queens so they can form their own colony together. It's a huge wait and see type of thing and I hope they do drive Amy's friends from their group so they can join her instead. The 3 seem to like each other and if the two friends are driven from the dominant queens' group and join Amy to make a colony together then I have no doubt they would be successful together. I don't think AntsCanada is that unbelievably heartless towards Amy and eventually her friends. He'll most likely rig a separate setup for the 3 dociles. Also... ants are far smarter than you realize. They will be able to tell the 3 apart from their little group purely by smell alone. Each queen carries the smell of their own original nest. This makes each one extremely distinctive from the others. So no. They're gonna end up with separate terrariums most likely so the more dominant queens don't harm the kinder ones. And if what I think is going to happen does indeed happen and the 3 girls are driven off then I know he will put the 3 kinder queens into a separate starting setup. They are basically proven to be able to work together with each other. That and those two girls and AntsCanada are sympathetic to Amy and her plight. That and he pays such close attention to his setups that I can promise you he will not let Amy and the 2 other docile queens be killed if they get driven out and manage to flee without dying as Amy did. If this happens he'll probably transfer the three from the section Amy is residing in and swap it for a replacement section and put on a new feeder slot for Amy and her friends.

  • @Tri7on

    @Tri7on

    11 ай бұрын

    @@fallenarchangelgaming3621 did you watch the video? Because when I say 'driven off' I just meant to another part of the colony. You also inferred alot of things off what I was saying. He even said it's a bit of a social experiment on what will happen. They've likely killed 3 queens already, I just dont think it's likely he will be able to seperate them before any more of nature takes over once they're in an actual terrarium. Because sending them off to another part of the terrarium is normal for these ants.

  • @fallenarchangelgaming3621

    @Tri7on to me driving off means to basically force them to leave the main area. This could either occur through murdering them or chasing them out. I also didn't 'infer' anything. You did that on your own bud. I didn't do any 'fantasy' scenario. I simply considered possible scenarios that may actually truly happen. Again. Our boi keeps a remarkably close eye on his founder colonies. And yes. I watched the entire video.

    Great message, Mikey. I can't say I've ever been one to put up with being bullied. I would fight over something like that. That said, I urge my son to be nice to everyone and never be a bully. I sort of have the recollection of having done my share of bullying. Maybe it's just how I view myself, or maybe it's true. It's been too long to even tell. That said, I don't have any victims who would remember me as such, so maybe it's a me thing because I wasn't afraid to fight people and some people were scared as a result of that. The kid that kicked your ass laughing at you for talking crap then getting beat up can feel like a bully at times, I guess. School is weird. That said, I'm glad you chose to show some love to the weak kids that get bullied. That sounds mean, but it's just very matter of fact. Be strong, kids. Be williinf to fight if need be. Mikey's right though. It's gonna get better.

    The Golden Armada would be a cool name. Several large Capital "Ships" leading countless smaller "ships" to war. Pretty well fits the idea of the queens directing a near endless swarm to me.

    He is studying them to see what happens in the wild. No one separates a group of queen ants in the wild. Mikey wants to know how a colony sorts out who lives and who dies. The why would be nice to figure out. Nature produces an abundance of genetic material then allows "pruning". This is much death. I think this is to get a few to function well with the least disease.

As I'm still new to this aunt colony. I do have a tank of crazy black ants. Those are fun to watch and have several of the their larvae.

    You should name the new colony (the sun colony). Me and Amy and you i think we would be siblings because I can see my self in you two. I got bullied a lot in my younger ages now I am 19 and about to do the exams to go to my dream university ( art university) from when i was 3 years old i lover art , Clay Art ,etc. I would always get a lot of attention from the professors because of my talent . I was an outcast from Kinder garden to even high school but now i have a lot of talented kids at my school and i am the leader of this grup and they are also my friends . From two friends that i was closer to to kdg to high school to now having an amaizing grup of people. The 😢sad part is that i will miss them when that time will come to go to our universities and never see everyone ever again.

    Queen Amy is missing a leg! Her left, front-most leg is gone down to a stump, as can be seen pretty clearly in some of the close ups. It kinda looked like one of her rear legs may have been injured too, but I can't be as certain of that.

    Pleometrosis rarely leads to poligyny. The reason for forming queen alliance is not to form a poliginic colony, but to provide as much workforce as possible during first year of the colony. After workers are hatched, most of the queens will probably be killed off.

  • @AntsCanada

    @AntsCanada

    11 ай бұрын

    Well, it depends on the species. Some species are very pleometrotic and don't fight at all into colony maturity, e.g. black crazy ants. I suspect yellow crazy ants are the same.

  • @kempo79

    @kempo79

    11 ай бұрын

    @@AntsCanada black crazy ants, as far as I know, don't have nuptial flights and form new colonies by division. So pleometrosis doesn't occur there at all. But as I said - pleometrosis RARELY leads to poliginic colony - that doesn't mean it's impossible and doesn't happen at all. Don't confuse pleometrosis with poliginy though. Poliginic colonies are usually formed by accepting extra queens by large colonies, not by pleometrosis (alliance of queens after nuptial flight).

    I cried so hard when you talked about being bullied. Cried with laughter. When I was young like Mikey, that was completely normal unless you had older or cool people to protect you entering 7th grade (it was called Jr High) and also when entering high school in 10th grade. Bullying was a part of life. I loved it and still do looking back. Sure enough I had kids putting "itch powder!" from spencers at the mall that's just powdered fiberglass, one guy pulled shirt out, other put powder down and then quickly scratched it into my back. Had to go home which was fine by me. It felt worse than shingles do or about the same, but thank the powers I did have older friends so after that incident, that was the last. Then like all good kids back then when we didn't need police or guards, I in turn would bully the younger kids myself one day, always looking for that one cool one to take into our little group and give him nickname of Rookie which did happen. More than once. So it isn't as bad being shoved into a locker, getting underwear pulled up over your head in atomic wedgies, Mikey, if you'd played your cards right, you could have become friends with them and then convinced them they were up to no good and to stop. Instead, you went and hid from the world just like you're doing today out in the mansion jungle that nobody will be coming to visit or stay at as the earlier videos implied. With those videos, I cried for those with laughter too. Like you're really going to invite strangers whose political, religious views etc. don't match with yours? Since you're afraid of confrontation, I thought right then.. "Ya, right. Bed and breakfast nook for ant people like me." But no. You might as well be on an island like Kurt Russel or other big time celebs except it's in the jungle with the bugs you like so it's same thing.
