Happy New Year! 2021 has been the greatest year of practicing and learning primitive survival and bushcraft skills. In this video I share clips of all my adventures this year from the old hut to the new land where I am building the new hut. Be sure to browse the videos on my channel in case you missed anything. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):
Who films you?
Me. I travel alone, shoot, edit, upload, everything, all alone. On a few occasions I may be accompanied by a friend, but that has been very rare.
Do you stay out there permanently?
No, I usually stay out in a wilderness area for about a week and then hike out and return to a city for editing and uploading. I have family and other obligations to take care of as well.
How many cameras do you use?
Usually I use just one camera. When I have underwater scenes then I also use a GoPro camera. I get different angles by moving the camera around and repeating the action to create a more cinematic viewing experience for the audience.
Where is this place?
In order to protect the integrity of the natural landscape I prefer to be very vague about the locations I use. There are places that I used to visit that were so beautiful and untouched but the consequences of social media brought all kinds of people to visit and sadly some people do not respect nature and have badly damaged these places. Therefore I do not share locations.
Where did you get your sandals?
I first started wearing sandals on outdoor adventures in February 2014. I’m so glad that I did because wearing these Luna Sandals has really helped strengthen my feet. You can see their selection of adventure and running sandals at this link: www.lunasandals.com/?rfsn=102...

Do you workout?
Yes, I workout, but not in a gym. I have some weights that I use and also do a lot of bodyweight exercises. I also run and sometimes swim. I hike frequently to collect wild foods and to shoot these videos so I'm very active all the time.
Are you vegan or vegetarian?
I wish I could maintain my health on a primal diet that does not include animals but unfortunately that did not work well and I ended up with health problems as a result of those attempts. From my studies, observations of nature, and personal experience I have come to believe that the best diet for optimal human health is a primal diet (paleo).
Do you get lonely when you’re alone?
No, I don’t get lonely. I’m actually so busy shooting video, taking photos and doing so many other things like making cordage, cooking, weaving, etc. that I really don’t have time to think about my lonely condition. Sometimes when something profound happens on an adventure I can’t wait to share it with people, but other than that I do not get lonely.
How many languages do you speak?
My first language is English but I also speak fluent Spanish and Portuguese. I also speak very little Russian. I may soon begin learning more languages.
How old are you?
I was born in 1972. At the time of this video I was 49.
Where did you get the music in your videos?
This series is the first one that I am making all the music myself. I recently made a drum and maracas (rumba shaker). I am now using them to create the intro and ending music in my videos, but before in the past I have used royalty free music from several sources including KZread. Sometimes I bought the music but usually it was free.

I appreciate that comment. I will take credit for the fact that I work a lot every day and I am extremely dedicated and committed to learning the skills of our ancestors but seriously, back in the day everyone knew this stuff and a whole lot more. I don't think I will live long enough to truly become an expert but many of the skills that I have learned and the introduction of so many wild foods to my diet have all helped me so much. I really want to share a lot more of what I've learned in this next year. Expect to see more variety of content and more frequent uploads. And I thank you again for your support! Happy new year!

@@ChadZuberAdventures don't undersell yourself... but also please, don't feel like researching tried and true native tactics (flintknapping and fish-damming being my main 2) would make anyone think less of you. I, and many others want to see how you create your own skills, but also adapt and use tried and true methods, and expand on them, more than anything else. Regardless, please, keep doing what you do, since i'm sure whatever you do will be successful one way or another.

Hahahaha! You're right. It does sound that way. I kind of do look at life as a contest, a challenge. There are evil forces trying to destroy each and every one of us, but there is a way to defeat those forces or at least avoid being the victim of their evil schemes. I lost family and friends this year. They died of preventative diseases. In the past I have recognized circumstances that nearly took my life. Mistakes I made that could have consequently resulted in my death. I've learned from my experiences and I try to avoid making similar mistakes. When hiking alone in the wilderness I always try to consider possible dangers and threats, make sure I step on firm ground to avoid falls, etc. These are our survival instincts at work.... If you want to cut a log again you should try weaving small jagged rocks into a rope and use it as a wire saw, don't know how well it will work, but it might be faster than the rock you used

When I have time I will have to work on this idea. It will take some experimenting. It may work though.
I recently watched a survival series where 7 people have to live in sweden wilderness for 7 days and they can only bring 7 things with them. And this just made me appreciate your work so much more because what was a struggle for these guys is just basic life for you. Your wide Knowledge about plants, animals and survival technics is just insane! Great work keep on surviving!

Well, I've never been to Sweden so I wouldn't expect to know much about the plant and wildlife there. I've been specializing in this area but every region is so different.

Greetings Chad, I want to say thank you for the basic survival lessons. I read that if a major catastrophe most would not survive 2 weeks. This is because of the loss of basic skills. I truly believe that there would be less drama if people still lived in the basic ways. May you be greatly blessed in the coming year.

Alongwith so many of your virtual friends I've had the pleasure of living all those adventurous moments of your journey sitting in the comfort (?) of my home. Never once missed your posts from April. Everything at your camp and behind the scenes is very clear. I have always wondered about your hike back to civilization. How does that work e.g. do you pack out only the camera gear and walk to the car parked somewhere at a trailhead, or does someone come to pick you up ? Also , do you have a satellite phone, or an emergency locator beacon ?

I drive to near the end of a really bad dirt road then I hike. It's a long drive too. The drive is physically more difficult than the hiking I do here. I don't have a satellite phone but I have thought about getting one for a long time. I have found a weak cell phone connection at spots on the upper levels of a few of the mountains around here but no cell phone signal at my camp. A satellite phone would be good for emergency use.

Thanks for noticing. I've definitely been working too much on making the videos and not enough on making the hut. That's why I'm so far behind. It's. a tough balance for me to maintain while working alone.

@@ChadZuberAdventures this happened to me too when I started growing a beard, but after it gets a bit longer it stops doing that
You asked what we would think about you making the roof now for the winter and continuing the walls for the hut later. IMHO that is an excellent idea. This way you not only make sure it is warm in your shelter you also would have time to recover and do other important projects in a more relaxed manner. If anyone would deserve a break it is you.

Wow! I started learning years ago but never put my skills to practice on a grand scale as you've done. This is amazing and the more of the episodes I watch, I learn more through your action. I've learned more of the foraging and growing over my years of practice, which I utilize everyday of my life, but the shelter and building...I've never done. Thank you for showing me that it is attainable but you've gotta want it. No one else is gonna build it for you. ❤️ Many blessings friend and many safe days ahead.
