My Parents' First Car - 1948 Plymouth convertible
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Joe and Beverly Smith were the proud owners of a 1948 Plymouth Convertible until they had to sell it when Joe was drafted to serve in the Korean War. As a 60th wedding anniversary gift, their son, Joel, found a '48 Plymouth through Craigslist fixed it up and gave it to them as a surprise. The car will now forever stay in the family and be passed down through generations.

True fact, you always remember your first car, and your first kiss, among other things. A lovely story, and great parents, this is what it's all about...
Great life moment. I cried.
"Its a gift from heaven" 😭😭😭😭😭😭 so heartfelt and loving present
Wow! My first car was a '48 Plymouth red convertible back in the 1960s. Such a thrill seeing this video, and hearing the story. I remember the gasoline heater, the lighted speedometer that changed color the faster you drove (ended in red), and the knob on the dash that connected via a cable to the carburetor --an early (and dangerous) version of cruise control. I always search them out at car shows, but like the son said, they're pretty rare. Especially the red ones! Thanks for sharing this.
Grampa wasn't the only one who had tears. Nice vid. Nice story.
I love you Americans, and I love this story. Many thanks for showing. Geoff from England.

I love you too Geoff. After all, my ancestors are from England so that makes us "family"!
Wow what a great gift to his parents...Sure brought the tears to my eyes....How lucky they all are to have that much love for each other......Bravo....Excellent story....
Fantastic, Outstanding, What a great story and memory not only for your Mum and Dad, but for You, your whole family and Grand Children, to hand down the line. The car looks a Million Dollars and well done on the Finding, Prep and care you took to give them their youth back. I know how my Dad felt when I gave him back his 57 Chevy restored, now we go for drives on the weekend, and at 94 he still tells me of the memories. Good luck to you, your a great Son.
Awesome story, and awesome Plymouth! I still have my first car a 59 Chevy Bel Air. In March of 2018 I will have owned it for 40 years.... and have NO plans on selling it.
The moment grandpa and grandma opened the door & drove away, all the memories started flooding back and they were both 18 again
wow,,this is brilliant..your folks raised a good son..what a wonderfull gift to give a couple in their twilight years..you can really see the joy in their faces when they first see the car...well done sir..be as proud of yourself as your parents are of you.! greetings from the emerald isle.!
I'm just bawling my eyes out. What a nice thing to do for your Parents. That's respect.
God bless you You made your parents so happy
A good son & a great friend! The Smiths are very blessed.
What a great thing to do for one's parents! A deed to be cherished for a lifetime. I still have my '64 T-bird after 45 years...looking good.

PaulLovesGod my dad had a pink ‘63 T-Bird at one time. It was small, compared to other cars, and pink. He would buy, fix, and flip cars as a side hobby. I was so young, maybe 7? and I really liked it. I saw one recently in Northern Arizona. It was for sale......
Wow. I hope the 2nd owner that they bought it from sees this video and knows it'll be a nice legacy.
You can tell when they got in that car they was 18 again that's a great story I love it
Lovely story, wonderful family... thoughtful son and grandson and wow...60 years that's worth gold... and the car.... well that's the icing on the cake!! Congratulations to Joe and Bev...it will be 64 years now!!
Wonderful happy ending to a love story with a great future of good times together.
This is a FABULOUS family story and journey of love. They have a GREAT son to do this for them.
Love the story, love the sentiment. Just goes to show you that good parents produce good sons.
Awww , wow ❤❤ 60 years of marriage, the love between the mom and dad and their son and grandson. How wonderful, heartwarming and touching. Tru l y a beautiful family and story of love , thoughtfulness and kindness ❤
Awesome. I did something very similar with my Dad and a GMC truck. It is a priceless memory, and I am really glad I filmed it.
This Was Awesome - Great Story And Great Thing To Do.
I sell cars for a living and have a customer that told his wife when they married in 1962 that someday he would get her a convertible. And on his 50th wedding anniversary he did just that. Solstice GXP convertible. That day brought tears to everyones eyes
Thanks for sharing your story. l cried happy tears for your family. You're all just lovely!
The things that touches me, is not what is given [ though precious memories are brought back ], but the out pouring of love for they person intended......A touch of heaven...this is what families are all about...this is what matters, the most. I know your proud of them.cherish them as long as God will permit them to be here upon this earth.
If that isn't the coolest story and coolest thing you could give to your folks, I can't imagine what would be. Congratulations, brilliant!!

The story is so moving! @ 6:48 I'm watching the car drive on the road and it's almost like they're driving back in time. What a great son/ grandson. And a great friend who drove out to go see the car too!
that must be an amazing feeling for the parents that their kids went through all that work for them and to give your parents that feeling of youth and good memories its beautiful.
Great for a happy cry. It is about so much more than THE car. I really appreciate being able to share their emotions.
Just found this....how heartwarming. What a lovely family! Blessings
What a special and beautiful story! Awwww, couldn't watch this without crying. Thank you for sharing this precious story of love!
I love it when his mom wearing jeans, looks great.
What a wonderful gift for your parents and story of love for your parents. I met your son on an airplane who told me to look for this video online. I can tell what an amazing family you all are. More people need to hear of these wonderful stories of love! Thanks for the inspiration!
Beautiful car. This video put tears in my eyes
Now THATS the way to treat your parents!!! The son put a star in his crown in heaven! "Honor your Father and your Mother, that your days may be long upon the earth". LOVE this story!!!
A wonderful story and such a nice gift for your folks. My mom and dad were together for 65 years until he passed in January of 2015. There very few true love stories like theirs and I love that you have the car to keep in the family for generations.
Wonderful parents, wonderful son...I'm a cynical old Englishman and you have me welling up
Oh Hagarty; you do know how to bring on a good cry. Thank you so much!
What a heart warming and day brightening story. Glad to hear that car will forever. Stay in the family.
What a beautiful story, and what wonderful scenery!
That's a touching,,great story: It is rather un-usal that one con found the same model after half-a -centuary. the fact that both of the OLD GUYS were still there and can enjoy the ride makes me in tears!
These are the true moments in life worth living...!Reliving great memories and having your children and grandchildren making them happening..! Awesome story & thanks for sharing.
Love the family bonds, the friend ships and the love between mom and dad
I am 70 and I am driving my new1952 Chevy...all street rodded like my first car in the late 1950s. Driving it is like a trip back in time
What a wonderful thing to do for your parents. I salute you. If my parents were still here I would do anything to restore and return to them their 1962 Holden Station wagon (Aussie car). It's so sad that flesh does not age as well as steel. Fortunately our love surpasses both. God bless you.

I have my Dads' 71 HQ sedan sitting in a shed back in Brisbane, Sometime hopefully soon I will get to work and take it back to showroom condition. I cant wait to take Mum (even though she hated driving it) out for a ride unfortunately dad is gone.
Nice story and nice parents. I am also 81 and my first car was a 48 Plymouth, or as we called them, a Mayflower. Note to my kids: if you find it, or one like it, leave it!
Darling darling story!! I'm a car buff myself and can reall appreciate how much this car meant to his folks. I fell in love with cars when a boyfriend had an Austin Healey in high school....even though I now have my "regular" Lexus ES....my most FUN car is my 1980 450SL MBZ that I keep the top off of all year round. Nothing more fun than cruisin' in your most favorite "oldie"......great story.
What a great story...it almost made mr cry. My parents first car was a 1948 Plymouth, too. They were married in August 1953 and they went on their honeymoon to Niagara Falls, Canada in in it. They absolutely loved that car and had so many happy memories in it. My father has passed on now and I wish that I could have had the same opportunity to give the car as a gift for their 50th Anniversary back in 2003. Well it's too late for that now. At least we still have our mother with us and we're grateful for that. Thanks for posting your video! Ted from Canada
What a wonderful story! Our family is a classic a car family so we can relate to the emotional attachment. Such a loving son. Drive it in good health, have fun!
Great story I hope my old car stays in the family
Great car and a great story. Glad to know a family who still loves!!
The 1946,47,48,and early 49 Put15 Plymouth, Special Deluxe they were Fine to me because my father had a 1948 Plymouth, Special Deluxe. I was very young but that turned out to be my favorite car!!!! And I still love it today. The dash board with all that shiny chrome and the big steering wheel with the chrome horn ring and the horn button all bright and colored Plymouth insignia. The special deluxe badge on the radio grill. The fat fenders, the beautiful bright grill fat and thin the fog lights topped off with that beautiful little up ship hood ornament. I shall always love that beautiful car!...RG
Saw a similar story on TV where kids went out and found the actual car. A '63 Impala. Such great kids.
What a wonderful moment ! I teared up when i saw it come up the drive ! Every parent needs a son like you ! A Big well done for making your parents day ! My parents have gone to rest now but please give Yours a Hug for me. Greetings from The Emerald Isle
Please give your dad my thanks for his service to our country. Send them both a hug from me
This is why people love cars so much. It gets to a point where it's not really about the car anymore. It's about the experiences, memories and the people you shared it with.
That's AWSOME !! - Great dad, great son, great video. Thanks for sharing !
Wonderful story!! I still have tears in my eyes!! Many more happy anniversaries!!!!! God Bless you!

God bless your parents. This made me smile and I can't wait to do this to my dear parents soon.
I was wrong, but as I watched I thought for sure he was gonna say they found their original car. Nice story, put a lump in my throat when they gave em the car.
A great love story, very well done by all concerned!
It is hard to imagine a more beautiful car from the Great Generation. Heartwarming stuff.
What a wonderful kind of love in this family. God bless you all.

I am so happy you were able to find this car and give it to your mom and dad while they are still 'young' enough to enjoy it! this should keep them going and enjoying life for many more years to come...
What a great story...I had the privilege to know Joe when he was a Chrysler dealer in Delevan and I was the Chrysler Zone manager headquartered in Syracuse, NY...I have several old Chrysler cars and if I have half as much fun driving them as Joe does his "48 Plymouth (which coincidentally was a car I learned to drive in), I'll be happy.
