Much as I like old stonework, you made a good decision to render the front. It looks great! Dealing with water intrusion and drainage is vital to protect the work you've been doing inside the house and prevent mold. The new desk is clever!

First choice would always be to preserve the stonework, but it was a pretty horrible mismatch that wouldn't have looked good when repointed. Totally agree on the drainage point! And it is indeed, very pleased with it. :)

I had a discussion with a friend this weekend. How sad it is, that it's always just about money, which is why we build mostly new stuff and let old houses rot away. Here where i live in germany, there are soooo many old houses who are beautiful, but they are mostly so old and rotted that it would be expensive to renovate them xx. I imagined how our housing-situation would look when our world wouldn't circle arund money and we could just renovate all these old houses. So seeing you, putting so much money and effort into renovating old houses is such a nice thing to see :).

For the LED strips, a nice way to hide them and not have them shine in your eyes is to get a narrow strip of wood, put the LED strip on the back side of it, effectively making a light bar. You can go a step further and put a plastic diffuser over the LEDs to even out the light so you can't see individual bulbs. Finally, fasten the wood to the underside of your upper cabinets using screws, double sided tape, or even strong magnets. I'd recommend trying the magnets first since it makes getting at the strip easier, not to mention cleaning if anything splatters up there from the stove.

Hey George! I am so happy to hear in your voice that you are doing well! It is awesome to see your accomplishments and your kitties. To hide the lights; simply cut a one and one half to two inch strip of wood that is the length of your cabinet. Attach with "L" brackets every two feet with either one quarter inch screws or you can use adhesive. Always pre-drill a hole smaller than the screw or if using glue, go minimal, do not use too much and be sure to wipe clean immediately. Thank you and God bless you and your family!

Nice to hear of you fixing the drainage problem that caused flooding at your neighbours. My landlord (that is actually a cooperative and you would think they are nicer people than landlords that look after profit) ripped out walls in the apartment below me. As a result my floor sank and I have gaps of 1 to 2 cm now between walls and floors. I called them, their caretaker arrived and yelled *at me*' for 15 minutes. That bunch of bunglars caused the problem, although I warned them that I had a bad feeling that the floor will sink if they rip out certain walls and they still blame me for it and do NOTHING except trying to fill the gaps. My floor is now like in a 500 year old cottage and for days I feared my floor would just collapse. ☠

With the LED strip lighting, you can make up a cover to be a diffuser. Obviously, it would have to be custom built. But I reckon that you could get something with a clear (but a slightly cloudy) diffused look and just buy a lens and cut & glue to the right measurements. I used to work for a specialised lighting company *many* years ago in California, where if someone needed to find a particular light bulb (or anything lighting related regardless of residential/commercial, we were usually able to find it for them). That being said, we used to have lenses cut for fluorescent fixtures and back in the 2000's there were many different types of patterns besides the common prismatic (not only different prismatic patterns & thicknesses of material, also a holiday/cloud wrap....if you wanted to be fancy). Anyways, it's an easy enough issue to fix....(sorry if I've taken way too much time to explain).

We bought an custom artist home built in 1993. Original builder after 6 years never moved in. From all observations the 2nd owner did nothing. So 26 years later we bought it. Strangely some things not to building code and we live in California with the strictest because of earthquakes but they are quick to add compliance or ADA and all that. Bathroom wasnt useble as stoilet to close to a not usable spa tub too big for space and giant tile surround I had to dust. We gutted that. But for some reason the metal guard, a mini version of what you put in but goes under last row of composite time and over the facia boards to protect from extra rain run off was not there. We added it with new roof. Many facia boards needed replaced. Some were fixed with bondo. Also in a hotter area its amazing how many dont drain off their swamp coolers. Just let the condensation pipe leak all over roof? Fortunately that repair was done inside of garage but in long run we decided to remove entire plywood base for the roof. And yes it went on and on. You cant see all in the walk through and even though an inspection some things are just not required to be looked at. Like propane leaks. We hedged all bets. Replaced water heater right away. Propane tank pipes had a years long leak only realized when plumb trees (non fruiting type) got giant sores on trunk after planted. Went with a different company because the other one HAD to know we were paying for 4 times the gas needed?? I searched all over and found an EPA report....our toxic waste agency....that had them using hydrogen peroxide in a toxic lake. Searched more and saw they spray on ground too. I already knew you can compost bad land in a few years into good land. But large toxic spills you have to netralize. What it does is make the soil aerobic again. It goes anaerobic from the toxin....meaning no microbic life. So I made a solution about half and half at first. Put it on the plumb trees every month and they came back! You'd never know now. We also have sandy soil in high desert and I use it first planting trees even with amendments to give it a boost. Sorry Im an info person. So like to share things I learned to fix problems.

Ah, the pain - I mean JOY - of home ownership. I've had the flat part of my roof re-done 3 times in 11 years! There's a lot to be said for apartment living! Regards from Indiana!

You are such a kind and caring person, George... you even care if your guests liked the sofa. I cannot travel anymore but if I could I'd love to spend time in this beautiful place you put so much time, energy and thoughtfulness in.🎅🏻⛄️ Nollaigh Chridheil agus Bliadhna Math Ùr 🍄🍀 to you and your loved ones (both on two and four legs) from the Bavarian Highlands (alpine region) 🙋🏻‍♀️Lisa

I love your videos. Your voice is calming and your accent is nice to hear, as well. Of course, I also love tiny houses. (Which is funny because I live in a 6,000 square foot home. 😂) it served us well as we raised five kiddos, but now it is just a big hotel for the kids and their friends whenever they come to visit. Anyway, I think you're doing great with all your hard work! Best wishes!

Hi George, you could get a diffuser for the leds, they can even come in a 1/4 of a circle shape which would fit perfectly in that upper corner.
