My new favorite (powered) mixer? Yamaha EMX5014C

Музыка

The Yamaha EMX5014C is a great powered mixer. I had largely written off powered boards, but this may have changed my mind. Very versatile and actually really light for the amount of power it puts out. Great for small groups and DJs. One knob compressors, reverb, and lots of power output.

I’ve been running one of these since 2008 for Karaoke, it has never missed a beat. It has always been overkill for Karaoke but Yamaha effects are amazing.

Hi, can you recommend some monitor speakers to connect to the Aux1 and Aux2 inserts? I do have that mixer and has been very useful with my band, but we need to add some monitors so we can hear better ourselves on stage.

I have this board as well. I'm struggling with how to get two separate monitor mixes for the guitarist and lead singer. I have the speaker switch set to Aux1/Mono which work perfect for Aux1 as a monitor and still allowing the two mains out. But doesn't allow aux 2 as a second monitor. The other speaker options don't allow me to control individual aux eq's/volume for two separate stage monitors. I should add all mains and monitors are passive. I can't seem to find the setting /connections that will allow allow my to not hear monitor adjustments/volume in the FOH when I am working with monitors. Am I missing something?

It sounds like the board wont work for the configuration you are wanting as the board only has a two channel amp. You can still use Aux2 on that setting, but you will need another amp or a powered monitor.

Thanks, we ended up buying a two channel amp (two volume controls) to power the aux 1/2 line outs to the stage monitors. @@MaxSplVideos

Very hard to diagnose without more information but I will try. First try a different source, next make sure it's not a cable, then try a different mixer to see if it's a mixer issue, next try different speakers to see if they are the issue.

Thank you for a simple and good review! just got a used one and can´t wait to use it. I didn´t quite get the part about using it with powered speakers. Should I connect them to the speakon-outlets or the other ones? It says in the manual to only use non-powered speakers, could that be right?

Glad you liked the video. For powered speakers DO NOT use the amp outputs on the back, that would likely start a fire. If you have powered speakers use the ST OUT on the top panel near the headphone jack.

@@MaxSplVideos Thank you for taking time to reply, deeply appreciated! I actually spoke to a friend of mine and he said just the same, to use the ST OUT instead för powered speakers and the pther ones on the back for non powered. Just like you stated in the video :) Thanks again!

I'm looking at buying one of these and thank you for this video. I was unsure if it would run (2) passive JBL JRX monitors and (2) powered mains (that I haven't bought yet). This will be my 1st PA and i'm trying to understand it all. Thank you.

It would actually work perfectly for that setup. You would want to use the built in amp to power the monitors and then run the main outs at line level for the powered mains.

Hello David I am an former musician as well returning to music. I haven’t played in bands for 15 years long story short i obtainted a JBL jrx 125 passive speaker. this mixer showed on the video will work without haveing to purchase a power amp. all that is needed is a you will just need a 1/4” to 1/4” speaker cable hope this helps !

How can I control the monitor volume independent of the main speakers. Frustrating!

How do you have your monitors wired in? Aux 1 and Aux 2 both can operate monitors on independent volumes. Or do you mean control booth monitors? If that's the case your best bet is the rec out or ST sub out.

If you are running one (power) out for mains and one for monitors, (meaning output A for monitors, and output B for mains, there is no way you can EQ the monitors for (Aux 1). You need to go out of Aux 1 send, and use powered monitors with an EQ... That is my main complaint about this mixer. I have in the past use the mixer without EQ on the monitors. I use my board about 3 times a week for live venues. (clubs and outdoor gigs) Lately I have been using powered monitors. This Saturday I have a bar/restaurant gig. I am going to use Aux 1/ Mono with no EQ. I find that I get more head room without distortion that way. Hope that helps you.
