When I heard they don't need to drop off food I imagined they'd still gather up to their maximum and then deposit it albeit instantly, not deposit as soon as they gathered even 1 food. That is so much stronger; not only do you not have any travel time cutting into your food gathering efficiency rate but you also never have to worry about ending up with 796 food out of the 800 you need to click up. Not needing those seconds and those extra clicks needed to manually tell vills to deposit whatever they are carrying so you can get that key tech or to click up is going to have a big impact.

Strategy predictions: - More compact bases, because you can squeeze the farms into every nook. - More forward vills (towers, castles, archery ranges...) because they can farm in their down time. - More efficient economy all round. You don't need to wait for 15 seconds for that last 5 food. This will affect upgrades, creating vills, and units. - LESS farmers. Not by much, but it will happen. Creating a domino effect onto other resources.

While I am not denying it is an increase in farming rate. I think it looks even more crazy than it are, since its a constant tickle coming in, rather than a jumps in resources like normally when they have to drop off. That giver it a perception of being quicker. Even if they now change it so they wouldn't drop the food before they were full but then dropped it on the spot when they were full, while that would give the exact same farming rate as the khmer have now, I think it would feel slower

I can see this being really handy for a TC drop strat. You can continue to use their farms while you're rebuilding your TC.
I've been waiting for this since the patch notes came out 😂
2:26 "if I get used to placing crappy farms" If?
Show us a game with forward farms and houses! Just like you mentioned in the video :)
I think this helps on large maps because you can really spread out your farm eco, which means the enemy needs to do a lot more scouting just to find that eco, and raiding it will be much more difficult. Especially with a couple farms clustered around a house so you can hide inside. A couple scouts could certainly raid one of those farm clusters, but it would take a while and would have at most a small impact on the eco. You could send in more weak units, or a couple of stronger units, like knights, but at that point the resources, including time, spent to take out farm eco just isn't worth it. So yeah, a cluster in the corner, another behind that hill, one in that clearing in the forest, just all over the place. If one gets attacked, hide and send in help. If it loses, no biggie, because they'll spend the next five minutes looking for another one, and another five taking it out. This also works on smaller maps, and crowded maps, just not as much.
Wauw, Castle imagine a forward castle with farms so you have forward villagers ready to build and remain efficient in gathering recources. Pro's will have a fieldday with this 😃
I have watched hundreds of hours of T90's videos, and they have resulted in a huge benefit to my in-game experience. I am better than I ever was when I had played 15+ years ago when AoE2 was released and a few years after that. Microsoft had sent out like 300 beta copies that were the very playable beta, black and white copies of the tech tree and manual that would be in the box. There was also a 3.5" floppy that had the bug reporting tool. I was sent a copy and it was like christmas in the spring. I thought I had no chance, but they sent me one. I had dialup and couldn't get bugs reported. I made a custom map with 10X10 rows of sheep, and some of them walked over other ones. The manual was not quite a cm thick and had a few typos. The cd stopped working after a couple of months, but if I changed the computer clock to a month or two prior, it would allow it to run. On the cd it says Beta 2 and July 1999, which always reminds me of 1998 when undertaker threw mankind off hell in a cell, and placed three archery ranges on a neutral island.
That's pretty sick, I thought the way it worked was they would work until they had their inventory full and then magically drop it off, but if it is continuous then there is never the waiting to hit certain thresholds of food amount for Castle Age, scouts etc.
I'm sure some of the 300 comments mentioned it, but defensive farms, can place them far from mills/tc, way in back etc, make them raid resistant, especially with houses.
I really like this change. The Khmer desperately needed any Strong eco Bonus. It buffs Knight rush, elephrush etc. It helps you at early every strategy, and i Think Khmer are Top tier now.
Good luck with the pro scene, I have great faith in thee ;)
What next, transports from archery ranges?
Forward farm ? You can straight up steal farms AND benefit from them without wood investment
I knew this video was coming as soon as I read the patchnotes.
I was expecting at least one video like this :D
when you're vill rushing (with houses) you could start farming forward quite easily too but stick close to the houses to be safe
In team games where your allies are willing to protect you into castle age you can just go straight for farms and lumber while they take your boars and sheep with them and have the nastiest late game snowball effect. That food counter just gets faster and faster. Eventually it goes fast enough where you can just focus on other econ and army building as you struggle to spend the food faster than it comes in.
Do a Khmer nothing diplomacy..... Farms farms everywhere
@Celentar

Farms nothing? :D
it buff the organisation of buildings in your base. combos like 4xfarm +1 house. Maybe add 1 barrack to that and the required farms and houses to support the barrack's production. i hope to see some cool layouts
i just couldn't wait for this video, since I heard about the buff in Spirit of the Law. T90 is now OP! Aggressive corner farms are a fact, beware pro player!
It buffs something no one seems to do. You can stick villagers in the corners of the map and just leave them there. I've noticed that in many games people don't even scout the corners.
Question: If a villager gathers food from a non-farm source (hunting boars for example) then gets tasked to a farm, is the food in their ‘inventory’ instantly added or is it added when the vill gathers 1 food from the farm?
Khmer could actually be one of the most amazing civs in the next couple of months, I hope they get some kinda buff still, but this is gonna help them out a lot

Is this patch only going to be for Age of Empires II: DE? or is it coming out on Age of empires II (2013) HD too?
Hello T90, i don't usually comment but i would like to tell you a few things: 1st, thanks for speaking so slow, that allows me to watch your videos at 2x speed so all those long videos become shorter and i enjoy them that way (less time spent on youtube) 2nd, I know you usually hear it but watching your videos encouraged me to play AOE again, i even bought definitive edition and motivated some friends to do so. 3rd and finally, i want to ask you for shorter videos like "meme videos", so we can show them to some friends that don't play the game, ie. i convinced 2 friends to play because i showed them (The Leyend of Texas) the moment when the two kings were being attacked by trebuchets inside an arena. That was so awesome but the video is too long for someone who doesn't plays. I hope you get my point. Greetings :)
I watched viper play with khmer on steppe, he sent vills to each deer patch and rather than building a mill or walking back to the tc he built a farm so that they would drop off the food, and when the deer ran out he tasked the villagers to those farms
I wonder about tower rushing with forward farms lol
"The struggle is if I place a crappy farm..."
Damn it's so nice that it's a constant income instead of the large hand-offs!
I think this supports aggressive building, as vils can construct walls/castles/adv. stables/etc. and then, instead of wasting time re-positioning them you can just drop a farm to keep them busy.
here are some ideas for this bonus aside of the forward houses + farms: Forward tower +forward farms, Forward Castle + Forward Farms, you can now place all farms you need inside your base on maps like arena withouth making more TCs or mills that take space, you can now also Wall up your initial Town center área with houses and place farms inside and protect everyone of your villagers
An ideal Khmer base is now going to be just farmland, no normal terrain, just farms all around every building. I would love to see that.
This could be a game changer for slower maps like Forest Nothing. The options are craaaazy :O This could also change the tempo of team games. It'll be easier to get food production going, but with villagers not having to walk and drop off the food this could snowball into absolute madness.
In this version, if you place a gate over 4 unbuilt pieces of wall do you get the resources spent for the wall back ? Because in the old game you don't. This farm stuff is like in Rise of Nations.
Viper called that shit when he read the patch notes, nice job there bub.
I always like seeing Khmer matches. They're so unique, and have such quirky features. When TheViper plays Khmer it's always entertaining.
Can we finally see some perfect farms lined up like houses now? 🤔
About time. Always loved the house garrison. Just needed a boost
Man if you retire I’ll be sad your my favorite castor I even started back playing the game again because of you I suck I wish I was good but hey I’m trying and your videos help me get better
T90 is unstoppable now D:
It buffs death match brutally, maybe a nerf would be in order but I'm not sure since I only spectate deathmatch
Dont wheelbarrow and handcart affect all res collections? I think its still worth getting
I love this bonus. Provides significant early to mid game boost, but isn't so powerful that the late game hussar/elephant spam is overwhelming. Between this buff and getting hussars, I think Khmer are finally "balanced." Now time for some Vietnamese love.
I just watched Sprit's video Tristen. I knew you would love Khmer. :)
It's like how in AoM the Atlantean villagers would directly give resources while gathering. Except that this is just for food.
Sounds like someone read the comment section of Spirit of the Law's Khmer video.

Several pros have mentioned T90 farms in their streams as well
For the memes, I want to see you farm the neutral islands xD But for real, I also want to see TC drop strategies where you leave the early farms "at home"
I'd like to see either late game food bonazas, just overwhelming the opponent with food eco, or a fun forward with farms and houses.
How do I get this farm upgrade to show up on Definitive Edition?
You’ve only played for 6 years, I remember when age of empires 2 came out, I was like 13.
we will still make fun of your farms, t90, the MEME is not dead!
As a new player, I think this buff is to help new players to have civs that are "easier" to play, at least at the beginning. For example the huns (you don't have to worry about pop) and now the Khmers. I guess that top players won't feel the buff as much since they are used to placing mills (no irony intented) but it's quite nice for newbies like me :)
Riley: Are we live? T90: No.... I'll just post this to KZread ;)
It's interesting hearing people's opinion on it after watching the SpiritoftheLaw video. Not technically a huge buff, but a forgiving and helpful one.
@whisperwalkful

It is a HUGE buff
I think with this update and their trait for not needing building to advance or unlock, they are the most space efficient on forest nothing.
On arena, I would like to see a house glitch through the corner of the wall, into forward dark age farms just for the disrespecc points
The best opening sentence i ever heard on a video
t90 can u make a video on how to buff/reignite the most unpopular or least picked civs in comp. play in the next patches like teutons, byz, magyars, malians, berbers, tatars etc.
Hey T90 ya mad dog, love all your videos, would you make one going through a couple of well known civs and common strategies with them eg Franks scout rush, blah blah I know it’s probably not for everyone but I would enjoy the information 👍 keep up the awesome content
I wish this also worked on fish traps
I play this game still and i dont see how the heck you guys advance so quickly and gain such a big population that fast. Lol
I wonder if Hunter food is immediately deposited upon becoming a farmer. That could be a really quirky way to take forward deer
You can use villagers as watch towers if you build in key spots
Bad Strat: Build a train of houses, one grid square apart, leading to the enemy base. Build a circle of houses around the walls. Research sappers. Build farms alongside the houses. When it is time, tear down the enemy walls and escape by hiding in the houses. House-hop back to the main base if necessary.
T90 please test the viability of the Khmer battle elephant rush. Preferably forward. I want to see how quickly you can get an elephant in the other guy's base
2:28 "IF I get used to placing crappy farms..." They're called T90 farms for a reason
Allowing the villagers to drop off the food automatically will make this civ amazing for any 256x mod. No more clicking town bell to drop off food that your villagers are hoarding. I think it'll be OP lol
The devs should bring something like this but with stone. Something like,,.. civ bonus where vills can dig anywhere to get the stone, maybe more slowly, idk. That would be great
This could even be used aggressively. Build a forward farm while luring an enemy boar!
lol and spirit of the law just made a farming update video i think XD, unfortunate timing. to me this seems like a big early game buff that becomes negligible in imp if farms are well placed, not that it is weak because of that, given how important fudal age is, and castle timing with food
lol literally the FIRST thing I thought of when I saw the buff was T90
a.k.a the t90Official Update
Damn it... Was going to message next chance I got to say that T90 farms are possibly now a good thing!! (As long as you're Khmer)
I'd like to see forward castle into forward farm :))
Loved all these archery range comments LOL
If the game drags out and you get to siege the enemy you can just take farms you conquered with forward vills if the enemy is not fast enough with deleting them.
khmer: elephanto siege push action. or maybe the food bonus is so good you can afford not go water on nomad and go crazy. or wood denial with elephanto scorps :)
