I don't always play AOE2. But when I do, I do forward market rush.

What happened at 12:03 was that DraCoNT started to convert a scout, but then switched to converting an Archer, and almost instantly converted the Archer because the monk had already build up enough faith in his attempt to convert the Scout.

Faith is the wrong term here, but yes, you're right... if you start converting one thing and then move to another you can get insta-converts. Since scouts have extra resistance it means things with lesser resistance will be converted instantly (because of maximum conversion times). This technique is usually done (coupled with redemption and theocracy) with buildings... you start converting a building, lure the enemy in and then switch your monks to the offending forces.

Crazy to think while I was still playing this game 5 years ago there was a small community still alive playing AOE2. My friends and I were not alone! Love the baby T90 voice!

Not a click bait. The brilliant strategy was the market, not the tower hop. I never seen this trick. Great video!

T90Official, did the designers purposefully leave that corner open so that tower hops would be possible? Because I'd think that it wouldn't be that hard to program the wall so that it would fill that spot in. It is a neat trick, but still seems like if you are going to start with walls, they should give you the full walls.

Amazing market trick. Aztecs are kind of OP on Arena - best monks in the game, plus eagles, plus relic gold bonus... If you're going to beat a player of roughly the same caliber in a game where you have a civ disadvantage I guess you have to do something wild like this in order to have a shot, and it worked beautifully.

This reminds me so much of my junior high years. I played this game so much. Never realized there was still a following 12 years later LOL

You aren't the only one. Sadly, I thought I had "skills" back in the day, now with their "meta" and all of their hotkeys, and how fast they are able to go between all of it, I'll never be able to compete, but playing against the AI, is good for me for now. (Tried a couple voobly and steam games... got reamed so hard by players rated so much lower than me.........)

I used to be one of the best DM players back then from 1999 to 2001. I used to be MaJoR_Jose_M, managed to get 8 accounts over 2k and one of them over 2.4k and another three over 2.3k back in "The Zone". I used to be the best Huns Wars players but was also good with other civilizations. Very good old days.

Going into this video, I think there's about a 97.1% chance that I won't believe the outcome of the game.

making that many mangonels was the key to lose this... Battering rams filled with pikemen! That's always win. Battering rams withstand archer fire for ages and pretty hard to kill with cavalry too. Putting 4 pikemen inside each battering rams would speed it up and pikes can defend it from cavalry. And rams are much cheaper then mangonels.

I agree it's all easy in retrospect, but there is no reason he shouldn't be able to think off walling off, maybe place the first tower above the market so if they enter the base they get shot at, he could have collected 25 stone for 1 tc, buy some stone for a second one, and basically feudal army couldn't harass his eco. Very panic stricken response made him lose the game. Even as a noob I could come up with that right away watching the tower hop going up. No way he should have lost that.

@Jamie Grimes Lol he doesn't have to place tower right away. When he saw tower being built and he couldn't place building he could have easily placed palisades or stone around the market that cock blocked to prevent entry. He saw it, and he should have rushed up to wall that bit off so after the tower is built and he deletes his market, then Dracont's walls will prevent him from advancing. He had plenty of time and could have made sure the tower rush didn't advance any further. Make 1 or 2 defensive towers and he should have been fine

@@lamegamer4607 again, no stone walls because he wasnt in feudal. he hit feudal just seconds before the second tower went up. so best case scenario, he has palisades around where the market was but the second tower still goes up and the palisades would fall so quick to tower and vills.

Watched it live with Dave and Bulletchen casting, absolutely hilarious game !

It took me a while to realise but that whole game is pretty much like the intro with the dudes playing chess.

12:02 About that monk conversion. Monk conversion has a cast time, that's something we all know. It seems like when you're trying to convert an unit and then you aim to another unit, that cast time you earned with your monk applies to that other unit. So, could happened that red monk tried to convert green Scout, but then aimed to green Archer, which has not conversion resistance.

I do love using scouts. I have never been good enough to win multiplayer games, but damn scouts have done work for me in the past, i get a tonne of castles and walls and then hide large groups of hussars that i use to make damn sure the enemy cant use Trebs. Its great playing with Forgotten Empires and the Magyars, pretty much scouts that get even more damage to seige

Hey guys i'm pretty new on the game, if anybody body could explain to me why when at the start they have the citz right on the TC, why do some times garrison all the units and then let them out to continue hunting?. Does it do something in game?, very appreciated if somebody could elaborate.

I think what happened with the monk was it almost converted one of the scouts, but the scout ran out of range at the last minute so the monk span round and grabbed an archer.

I have said it on the 97.1% video and on another, it's great :D I know that the content has a good quality and the thumbnails are stupid fun that actually depict what really happens. I see the Viper vs Jordan series and not all the thumbnails have "click bait" titles or thumbnails because not all the games are something special. Keep doing what you do, loving the videos :D

Maybe since it's bigger it's harder to quick wall around it, whereas a house you could quick wall around it easier before the tower comes up.

That actually sounds legit.

Why doesn't the Arena maps automatically fill in those corner spots on the wall so tower hop wouldn't work? It seems strange to me that they don't just make a normal wall where this type of plan wouldn't work because there would be no hole to build the tower.

Because it's a waste of villager time if your opponent don't rush you, which most people don't do. Then you're behind.

Ch3ckm4t3, But if the game automatically started with those corner spots having walls like they would in any normal real life wall, then you wouldn't need to spend any villager time on it and it would make your base safer.

@@Ch3ckm4t3 Not really. Villagers have to build houses anyway. Have one scout the area and plug the gap. No time wasted.

I tried it, and I wasnt able to build the market. So I tested in a scenario and I can say that this is no longer possible, because you can't build over the corner of enemy walls like that (anymore). Unfortunate.

DraCont’s first mistake: not recognizing he could be tower hopped at the very beginning and build a barracks or something to cover the weak spot.

writing this comment before I see the video. I've only ever played against AI, but the strategy I would always use in the arena was to stay firmly in my base, and use logging camps and trebuchets to flank the enemy civ. I would always play as Britons, and in every AOE game, I ALWAYS build a huge army and focus more on the military than the economy.

DraCoNT made one obvious mistake: He was sending several magonels ouside his base where they are an easy target for scouts, and the ones he kept within his base he didn't properly protect with spears.

Is this game all about tower rushing? i've played like 20 online games mostly 2v2 and i always get tower rushed. but we win anyways because my teammate carries me always.

1:27 yeah that is basic aoe monk mechanics, you start to convert 1 unit with all of your monks and then you micro each monk to convert 1 unit. Once monk starts converting he can change targets

I knew there's a reason Ensemble Studio made market 4x4 instead of 3x3! 19 years later, now we know why.
