haha youre so right. i was purple in that game. was focussed on greys king and red and didnt think about an army coming through all that way - way too careless i know, im usually not playing regicide and i only found out after the game that yellow was the viper - my whole game was so messed up, ive never played a serengeti map, had not idea how to counter gbetos - but i guess that is why the teams were like that - we were 3 because our ELO isnt very high...still great fun seeing yourself playing against the viper being commentated by zeroempires

viper is a map hacker. no way he knew the king was in that random tower

So the viper goes down,loses all his eco,has less than 30 supply in late game,attack the enemy strongholds with his king and snipes not one but two kings with less than 30 supply?! This is like the ballziest shit I have seen in this game :D

It was a bit of a shame that green dropped (given that he was the only player not focusing viper). The game could have gone very differently if he'd continued pushing through grey's base. The hilarious ending made it all worth it though.

thanks zero, big fan of you commentating. love how you always focus on the good things ("balls of steel") even talking about players like me who still need to learn. i was purple. feudal and castle time was terrible, sent half of my units into unnecessary death and my king...well...why did i leave him in that tower - i dont know. but its just great how you and theviper keep making those games with lower ELO players, that was a lot of fun, keep up that good work, really appreciate all your commentations!

Well 2k on AoE2HD is not the same as 2k on Voobly.

Watched a game with Edward Teach this morning, he was in the red and got demolished a shit ton but kept coming back like the legend he is

watched 6 years later, these were fantastic times for aoe. very different meta also. much slower. I liked it...!

I think Viper baited the drush with the king in the tower. Notice how the drush focused on that, and didn't deny any real resource gathering from viper's vils. If viper has taken his king to his TC, the drush would go on as usual. But because he went to tower, the drush didn't accomplish any resource denial.

Fantastic. I was browsing steam, since sales are on and came across Age of Empires II, noticing it had updates. Then had to quickly google search the "online" factor immediately. Wow, so there is a playerbase going strong still, great to see. What's the waiting time's like for getting into games online? I played throughout the golden era of Age of Empires II on MSN Zone back in the early 2000's. Any MSN Zone DM player's out there? Legit best online PvP game I have still played to date. If you can let me know that would be great, awesome video, will check out more

This was the most amazing game I've ever watched and I was watching it live on Viper's twitch. I came over here to watch from Zero's point of view. The only thing better would have been if he somehow found a way to snipe the last two kings. Hiding behind that rock in the corner was epic. Spies ruined it all though. Red was on the team of 2 but kept attacking him as well as the team of 3. He knew it was the Viper on his alias account so he focused all his attention on him. Viper was so thrilled when he found red's king. The ultimate payback!

Scorpions are good, but if that were a mangonel it would've killed a few archers, or even harmed a lot of them to near death. That scorpion barely did _any_ damage You could argue multiple scorpions are good, but why get 3+ scorpions to do the job 1 mangonel could do?

The argument was that you could make 2 scorpions initially instead of 1 mangonel, versus 2 siege units its much harder to micro than just the one.

yeah I'd like to see a video about it too. I just can't see the scorpions doing the damage needed. I get that they're cheaper, but saving up some extra wood and gold which you should have a lot of in castle age it just seems better to go for 2 mangonels. Scorpion projectiles are easier to dodge even if it's two of them, you can't attack ground, and compared to even a single mangonel, two scorpions do poor damage.

Valid point, but Scorps require the archers to line up correctly.. Changing formation and forcing the Scorps to target a single archer is too easy imo.

Also depends on what a potential ally is doing. I have several times been using a Byz trash army to hold a line, only to have an ally 'help' me by siege onagering everything to death, and then causing a steady loss of map control as the trash is beaten back.

Love this game

27:40 Elite Skirmishers are the best counter to Gbetos imo. The Gbetos are not an archer unit, but still squishy enough for an equal number of Skirmishers to kill a large number of them. Especially when you have the archer upgrades. Knights or other heavily armored cavalry are the direct counter of course, but also very expensive and you don't wanna throw just Knights face first into the Gbeto, unless you don't mind losing some. Scorpions are also decent against a mass of Gbetos, but also more expensive than just a bunch of Skirmishers. My counter strategy is typically just making an equal number of Skirmishers with some Light Cavalry. Once the Skirmishers have reduced the number of Gbetos enough, the Gbetos can't oneshot Light Cavalry and will get run down pretty quickly.

as someone who used to be h/c at this game back in the early days when AoE was released, I can say with confidence that Viper is one of the best players I have ever seen.

The viper is on another level I'm sure if that if he had an ally he'd actually win this that was a fantastic game by the Viper !

Marwan Saleh191 it was literally viper vs 3 on three fronts. The map sucked too, gave viper no chance to defend himself. Too much open space for him to get swarmed.

Super interesting game, really liked the format 1v2v3. The only thing I don't like about it is that the 2 and 3 team can trade late game which puts pressure on the 1 player to act fast and you see what happens he attacks one team and they get aided by their team and meanwhile he's completely open on the other side. So at best it's going to be what happened in the game, Viper 1v2 the lower rated team (the other flank having conflict and not being able to assist) then red the 2k player joins attacking Viper making it a 1v3 at best. Now we've seen Viper win 1v3 before but that did not include this high rated players. If nobody dies early on and it gets to late game, which is likely there is really no hope for the 1 player in this sort of format. Still this game was really fun to watch and I hope to see more in the future, maybe 1v2v2 or 2v3v3

Maybe it would work better if a special map were made for it, with maybe forests or cliffs or whatever giving the lone player an easier time defending, and some extra resources (and/or relics) near them to compensate for the lack of trade.
