I used a Fujifilm X-A10 (45 euro) with the ttartisan 27mm 2.8 (150 euro) as an edc. Now with black friday I pulled the trigger on a Sony a6100 with 28mm f2 as an edc. Its a bit better, but the autofocus is a bit nicer. Also ordered the 27mm ttartisan 2.8 again for the Sony if I find the 28mm f2 to big on certain occasions.

I have one. It's the ultimate travel camera for me personally. The rendering of the zeiss sonnar lens is just phenomenal. People say "just get an a7c" but honestly there is no a7c/a7c2 35mm combo that rivals the quality you get in this camera, and certainly not at this tiny size. Sure the tech is aging a little bit, but it also has some killer features like a quiet leaf shutter, LPF settings, etc. And with the high MP sensor you can crop super far if you need to recompose in post. It's super versatile and even has a pseudo-macro mode. It's a great EDC for any situation. It just never found its audience due to the insanely high price. If you can get it for half the cost of retail I would recommend.

I have the rx1r and it’s with me every day everywhere. I use it as a side camera to capture something with 35mm quickly. My only concern is that artificial shutter sound. Luckily easy to turn off. Still waiting for the next version of it but I don’t have hopes anymore.. and it’s difficult to choose more megapixels and tilt screen over the cutest speed light for me 😅 In addition to batteries a good quality soft shutter release would be perfect. Enjoy your new camera 🙌

Still hold the RX1 and love it for its exceptional picture quality. Yes, it is somewhat quirky to use but once you have developed a workflow, it will grow on you. It's only real competitor in my bag is the Leica Q as I slightly prefer the 28 mm focal length and its hard-to-beat handling. But I cannot bring myself to sell either. Have fun using the RXII.

Hey Pierre, great video! I actually bought the original RX1 and imported it from Japan to Canada after I saw your review from a few months back. I bought a used Rx1r on eBay years ago with all the necessary accessories + 3 batteries. It eats batteries. It’s a great street camera, a pocket battleship. The lens alone is worth the price. Worth mentioning is its macro mode. So If you’re in for a fixed lens, don’t mind using your legs, then it may well change your photography. One of the reasons I went for this camera was the results I saw other photographers got with it. The output has a particular 3d quality (depth and clarity) to the images, a stellar lens mated to a full frame sensor.

I have one. It's my favorite camera. It was my grail for years, and about a year ago I finally decided to buy one, and since then I have shot with it almost every single day. There is just something irresistible about this camera. The form factor, the lens, the sensor, it's just a sublime combination. I use an A74 for work and an RX1007 for my most discreet street work, but my RX1R2 is without a doubt the camera I enjoy the most. When I'm traveling, with friends, or just on a walk to clear my head, my RX1R is the camera I reach for every time. I think it comes down to sheer sexiness. More than any other camera I've ever owned, I just can't resist my RX1R. I want to hold it, I want to push its buttons, I want to pop up the hidden viewfinder and hold it up to my eye. It has a certain irresistible grace. This is why I insist that this camera is the closest Sony has ever come to replicating the "feel" of a Leica. It just has that perfect combination of factors that, imperfections and all, make you CRAVE it. It's not a perfect camera, but it's a damn near perfect object. It's a work of art, which is such a departure from the staid pragmatism Sony usually goes for. It's great to see the RX1R getting love again. Who knows, if we hype it up enough, maybe they'll make a mark 3???

I got the RX1 when it came out here in France in Dec 2012 and still use it all the time today. Photo quality & size factor make it a great default device. When I change the battery, the calendar & time go back to 0, the little blue lever that holds the battery in place is broken so I have a bent piece of plastic that keeps the battery perfectly in position and I always have the electric viewfinder on that I've attached with a black elastic hair band so it never slips off 😂 I still have about 20 batteries that charge up fine and a few dedicated chargers. People still laugh at the size until they see the shots it produces that stand out beautifully. And not to mention surprising great low-light / night hand-held ability.

I am with you on wanting that Sony RX camera more than a Leica Q or Fujix100v. Great you found a mint version. For my wants, 35mm is my preferred focal length if working with just one focal length. Let’s hope Sony comes around to making a new version. I held one of these many years back and was wowed by its compactness. Good luck sorting out the Nippon-only menu.

I've had the RX1 & also picked up the RX1R II a while back, love both! A lot of full frame power packed into a compact space. Love the viewfinder, body & lens, the sensor is awesome, the only thing is the poor battery life. You need at least 3 batteries for a good solid day of shooting if not 4, 1 in the body, 3 ready to go. That aside, it's one of Sony's better cameras if you can get past the price. I was able to score a good deal on mine second hand. I'd love to see more of what you do with this camera, hopefully, we get at least 1 more video, love the content & channel, much respect!

@@jammaschanno doubt about Sony company choices, they do their math. But however small it may be, the 7CR with a 35mm will always exceed the R1XRII weight and dimensions, it almost doubles it. Nowadays Sony's engineering would be capable of a R1XRIII with A7RV sensor and AF in just 300/400g. Or same weight but a f1.7 lens, Leica like. My dream would be a 28mm.

Got my RX1R for 700, it's a quirky camera but it's just so enjoyable to use when I want to go slow, got a evf and oVF for it for the full experience. Add the leather grip for more comfort when I want to. It's nice being able to strip it down to as small as it could be when I want to. the battery problem is a thing, but i remember to buy a new original battery for it and got about twice the milage of my old battery, its an old camera with old, tiny battery so i guess age degradation sap most of its life. They are so small tho that carrying 3 battery is about the same size as carrying 1 normal size sony camera battery, soi always have one tucked somewhere in my bags as i bought one pack of 3rd party battery so i can have spares no matter which bag i choose to bring that day. I'm hoping for the RX1 to keep their current used price for a while knowing how unique it is in sony's portofolio. Sony made a fold away thumbgrip made for the rx1 called TGA-1 but they are about 50 usd i cant find myself buying it. it folds so it allows access to the preview button and also have a cold shoe on top for mounting stuff. might worth it for you. For a real deal i did get the evf for 150 and ovf for 100, official leather case and grip for 50 also, so am packed. the Carl Zeiss oVF is so clear, bright and beautiful compared to anything the display and eVF can show, my ideal is always to replicate what i can see through it. My only problem with the camera is the unreliable AF so I think you do good on getting the mk2. I really do wish Sony out a mk3 with a new lens and absolutely reliable Autofocused, that's the one thing the Q3 and X100v can't manage still.

But as someone who owns both that Sony and the Q3, I really don’t think there’s any competition - the Leica is such a beautiful piece of equipment. I just want a version 3!!! Also, there's an RX1, which is full frame, there's an RX100 which is a 1" sensor, so would an RX10 be an APS-C size sensor compact street photography camera?

Can you share where exactly this is at? Is it near Map Camera in Shinjuku? I would love to stop there in my upcoming trip to Tokyo. Thanks so much if you can share this location.

What the heck… this was the first video of yours I came across… Before I knew it I was a subscriber to your KZread channel, and used your Black Friday / Cyber Monday deal to buy your presets and your course. I think I helped you pay for that new camera. :-) I look forward to the journey.

really appreciate that you include raw images as well as your edits! I watch a lot of photography videos and a big pet peeve of mine is not showing that edits have been made to photos. feel like it gives beginners unrealistic expectations of what their photos will look like. so thank you! love the video

lucked on one of these in a police auction. It's quirky, has it's limitations, I carry around a few spare batteries, but it gives an amazing character to your shots

I had it for awhile after it was release as my 2nd camera. Then I sell it away and go on using the 35GM on my A7Rii.. almost the same just that it's obviously alittle bigger than the RX1... The RX1 line is so good.. since its compact af and IQ is really up there. The only con is the battery life and the af is alittle slow for faster moving subjects.. For still or slow moving.. it's probably the best camera.. if you're fine with 35mm.. (Altho some Q user will say Q is better?) Everyday I just hope Sony can revisit the RX1 line.. make a RX1Riii... the ii is long overdue.. if the new one keep it same size and weight.. and have AI focus and can af as quick as a1 or a9 or a7rv.. I'll get it in a heartbeat.. it's just the best. Small/light.. decent noise.. Superb IQ..

One thing about Sony cameras sold in Japan is that you can't change the language unless it is an international model. I owned one before and I thought I could live with it but eventually it's frustrating even though I can somehow read some of it (katakana) because I live here in Japan. I guess you can just google translate it and eventually memorize the whole menu.
