These boxsters are actually relatively cheap to maintain as long as you do them yourself. There are many parts readily available. Oil changes are done every 7-10k miles even though it costs 150-200 bucks to do at a porsche specialist. The boxsters from 1997-1999 have dual IMS bearings so it is less likely to blow (less than 1%) unlike 2000+ (~5%) . I have a 1999 boxster and I replaced the water pump, 2 O2 sensors, timing belt, myself for under 200 bucks. It has been reliable and I've had it for 2 years so far. Boxsters aren't actually too hard to work on as many may think.

+xmagnetisx Do the oil changes at 5K miles, install a magnetic oil plug and check it each oil change and open the filter and inspect. Easy maintenance items are: oil and filter changes, serpentine belt, brake pads, spark plugs, alternator and water pump (tricky, but doable). Headlights and tail lights are super easy to change out. Tons of really good used Boxster stuff online and eBay is a great resource. Use KZread video and you're set. Agree that 1999 Boxster with dual row bearing is much more robust than single row. These cars are AWESOME!

I would agree that they aren't too hard to work on but the costs can really add up even if you do the work yourself. With my 2001 Boxster things just seem to keep breaking randomly, door locking mechanism, coolant tank, Air Oil Separator, etc. It really adds up over time. That doesn't include the cost of tires, oil changes, etc that are still just more expensive than an ordinary car.

Just so you guys know, the key hole on the left is an old tradition in sports car. In fact it was made for racing purposes, pilots use to run to their cars before starting the race. The key on the left gave the pilot the opportunity to start up and shift the first gear. Captain nerd i'm out.

I bought this car from him in the beginning of June. It was in excellent condition. I really enjoyed the the back wheels down handling (out handled my 500 HP modified C5 Vette in the corners) and the top down driving. I have since sold it and moved on to 2005 BMW M3 (jet black with cinnamon interior and 19 inch CSL wheels).

@@michaelsmitten9240 Sorry but a Porsche is a Porsche. The 2.7-3.4 flat 6's of this era are basically the same, and they all had mostly interchangeable parts. Also it's just as expensive to maintain, insure and modify. Also no one says a Boxster isn't a real porsche, they say that about the 944 and in both cases they are wrong. They are simply less expensive to purchase, in most cases. A lot of times there are multiple Boxsters for the same price as a 911. And I would have a 987S or newer over a 996 c4 or even c4s any day of the year, sir. Turbos are a whole other league of car. As a porsche owner I'm disappointed in you.

Hi! Boxter is awesome car. Can I have few questions? How is it to use this car in winter? Does it heat well? Could you park it outside in freezing temperatures? Will the roof survive? Could you get somehow to the engine, to see it? What about the fuel consumption, how much does it take in your log-term average? Did you have any issues with the car, is it reliable?

  • @ArthurR

    @ArthurR

    9 жыл бұрын

I actually drove it through a large snowstorm in the mountains once. Being mid-engined, it's well balanced and handles slippery conditions without issue. The A/C and heater both work well. If parking outside be sure to remove ice from windows as they must roll up/down when closing or opening the doors. The roof should be fine, but check for leaks occasionally. Getting to the engine is a bit hard, certainly possible, but not quick or easy. Fuel economy is quite decent if you're light on the throttle, but of course this is no easy task in a Porsche. I'd say you'd be able to average 25 mpg. Porsche is known to be the most reliable of the german brands, that said, the previous owner of this car put around $30k into maintenance, so be sure to check the maintenance records before buying.

That is about the vintage of the one I owned. Took it on an 8 hour trip on the Interstate. It was loud and not the greatest ride. Around town it would have been better without the stick. That said, it was alot of fun and today they are so affordable. You might get a bit self conscious around Cayman's and 911's but they make a cool weekend third car. Maybe a bit plain as far as bells and whistles and dated by 2016 standards, but mine was problem free, reliable, and gas efficient. Got it up to 120mph outside Florence SC exiting I95 to I26. It just floats like a magic carpet above 80mph. That is the biggest negative.. Despite being the red head step child of Porsche, I always felt limited in that she always wanted to run, but I had to always hold back. They hold their own vs their bigger brothers. Hell of a nice car for todays money.

I have the Red Interior Porsche inside logos optional, Upgraded Bose Surround Speakers, and 18 inch back wheels upgraded. The car is expensive to maintain keep that in mind. Not the fastest of the Porsches but pretty fast and mid engine. Out of the Porsche 911's and the new Carrera 911 this is the best handling car. Turns like a beast. I've taken 45 degree angles at 60 mph and still kept good control. Of course slid a little. If you can maintain it it is a great car

depends on what do you need, slk feels like a sedan in a convertible body, a bit more luxurious and comfortable compare to other roadsters (m roadster, s2k, miata, and boxster) boxster feels tight and precise with its controls, it's a thrill to drive, but can get tiring because all the controls are heavy. interior can feel cheap in areas. if you want a weekend warrior for twisty roads or tracks, then go with the boxster, if you want a weekend cruiser, then slk.

This one scared me a little bit. The original owner has $25k+ in maintenance and repairs on it. I had all of the receipts. I didnt want to wait on something else coming up, so i sold it quickly.

if you have porsche experience on a track for a year. or so and can afford it, sure. otherwise go and buy yourself a miata or del sol as a first car. many kull themselves and gurt other people cos they get in a Porsche too early or too young. if you buy ine, go and find a porsche day out with an experienced porsche driver who will have you drive it on the linit and show you how to drive it a bit safely

Anyone looking to buy one of these I wouldn't recommend it. The initial cost to buy one is cheap but trust me you'll be paying around 25-50% of that on this car every year at least. When you consider all the costs you could probably buy a m3 or Nissan 370Z which are both much better cars.

What the fuck are you talking about? This Boxster has just over a 100,000 miles on it, mine personally just has about 70,000 miles no problems what so ever. Educate yourself before judging a truly great sports car.

Tristan Horner "truly great sports car" LOL. I sell sports cars for a living so it's fair to say i've experienced the best of the best. I've sold 7 of these over 5 years and everyone who buys one only buys it because it's cheap. You never see anybody with lots of money buy one of these because they would rather get the 911. I'm just educating people on the comments like I educate my customers. The initial cost is cheap but it is NOT a cheap car to own which is what everybody assumes.

What a complete idiot, i own a boxster and have not wasted any maintenance money other than the average oil change, i have since put over 20k miles on the car and it still runs beautifully, i could have bought a 911 but really preffered a boxster for everyday use, you are just a keyboard warrior who talks shit and doesnt even own a car. And a 370z? Really? That car should not even be compared to a porsche, ever.

  • @Tristan729

I'm so sure you sell cars for a living lol. You continue to lead yourself to believe that the 370z is a "sports car" by the way, ran into a coincidence the other day and raced a 370z and oh wait I shit all over him.

  • @JUNAID187

Tristan Horner "Personally". The Boxster is well known to be an unreliable car and because it's a labour intensive job just to get to the engine, even the smallest of repairs costs tonnes of money. It is the same reason the RX8 is such a cheap car to buy in the used market. The expense of maintaining these cars is too high so owners cut their losses at a reduced price.
