My Mustang is Knocking Again

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Well it seems that I found the limit of 93 octane for my combo.

cylinder 3 typically has a flown imbalance compared to other cylinders meaning it runs a tad leaner. i see this on every ecoboost 4cyl i’ve tuned, which is a good bit now. i see you’re still taking advantage of my ecoboost tuning channels & layout 😉. more boost equals more cylinder pressure, especially with stock turbo setups. add too much spark to the mix of high cylinder pressures and you get knock. then excess heat from the air charge and you are bound to have knock. meth will help lol

So I adjusted the spark modifier for manifold charge temp. I'll see if that helps when the air is hot. I know the knock sensors are doing their job, but I'm a little uneasy seeing 4 to 5 of KR at WOT. And yes, I'm still using your log setup! I bounce back and forth between yours and the one I made. I wouldn't have made it to this point without it! Thank you again!

I suggest checking the compression in each cylinder and also do a full leak-dowm test.... if there is anything and it isn't just false knock then you should be able to tell then

the best thing i did was changing my wheel and tire set up. lighter SVE wheels and a staggered wider set up with continental extreme contact sport 02's + E85 tuned and 4 more cylinders = 12.63 @ 112 MPH (Dragy). welcome to the "No Spin Zone"...these tires hooked up hard with no spin..2016 GT Premium

I would like to get a set of lightweight wheels eventually with an extra set for rear radials. I have a whole parts list for reducing rotational weight lol. But just a better wheel and tire setup for the rear would be extremely beneficial.

Have you upgraded your intercooler? Avoiding heat soak is the name of the game with the EB’s

Big three core Intercooler. I'm slowly learning things as I go and this new engine needs a lot of octane to be happy. I had to trim back timing a few degrees in the upper rpms to keep things happy.

check the clocking on the two knock sensors. in a vid I noticed you had the pigtails at 6 o clock. might be different on your motor but my 16 has a different orientation that must be adhered to.

So I did fix that before installing the engine. The rear knock sensor had to be at the 3 o clock position. I'm gonna have the intake manifold off soon and I was gonna double check the sensors and make sure everything it good.

if you want to build hp cheap pull that motor and build a small block chevy to throw in it.. At least when you screw it up again it will be easier on the wallet.

Which ecoboost do you think its better to buy, 2017 or 2019?

I think the stronger Gen 2 connecting rods started in 2019 or 2020. If all 2019 engines had the updated rods, then that would be my choice. Otherwise, there's no differences that matter as far as the engine goes.

Get a dragy so we can get a good idea on how your car is doing. I personally have a stock turbo stock motor car tuned by EMS would be interesting to compare times.

Oh man! This guy has no business "tuning" his engine. Only the manufacturer knows the in-depth characteristics of their engines and how the ECU should be programmed. This guy is gonna end up inadvertently disabling engine protection regarding boost and timing and screw up his motor.
