To the guy who made his mother homeless: First of all, you didn't do that to her. She did it to herself. You didn't do anything except make sure she received the correct consequences for the wicked things she's done. And I disagree that "no one wins." The younger siblings definitely win because they are no longer in the custody of that evil woman. NTA

As for the point of the custody of OP's younger siblings, what position is the older sister he mentioned in and would she be willing or able to take any of the minors caught up in all this that can't be placed with members of their paternal families? If that sister grew up fairly stable and well off in the care of her bio dad, it seems like she'd be a pretty good pick for a foster parent.

For Story #4, they really could have allowed the photographer to have a plate of food and some water, and a chance to sit down. It's just the right thing to do, and a happy photographer likely means better pictures.

No, she didnt beat me.. most of the time.. but, she was always working, and left me home alone for a long time as a kid.) I actually feel for the OP in story 1. His mother really ruined his life. Given how well he was doing in college, you know he's smart and capable. She put him into situations that just didn't let him reach his full potential (at the time of this post). While some people can push through the abuse, better themselves and escape, not everyone can. It's really sad when people just succumb to all the bad in their life. I hope he does look into therapy or something to help him feel better about himself, to stop drinking and overall turn his life around.

Story 1: I'm sorry OP and his siblings had to go through all that trauma, I wish them the best of luck. Story 2: If the wife's cooking is really that bad, I think she either has to take some classes, or resort to microwave meals. A good meal is important, you can't compromise on that just to make sure the wife's feelings aren't hurt. Story 3: Hey, if that old Karen really did stay quiet after OP scared her off, I'd say he did the neighborhood a massive favor. Story 4: Normally I'd say that you don't mess with someone's wedding, but the groom here was totally unreasonable. How can you ask a FRIEND to work non-stop for hours with no breaks, and not even arrange some FOOD for him? It sounds like this was not a case of 'Oh sorry I forgot about that' but more like 'I don't care about your conditions, you will work for me'. I can't say OP was in the wrong.

Exactly let the person who is taking photos of an 8 hour event get some food and water. A photographer doesn’t have to take pictures of every moment if you want every moment to be documented then have someone record it instead. You don’t need a lot of pictures of people eating so it would make since to give OP some food while the food is being served. I can understand wanting a few pics of you and your family in that moment but taking a break especially at that moment is fine

My mother was the same way, and still is to this day, but the day came that she needed my help to get by. When she told me she expected me to do all her cooking, cleaning, errand running, etc, and she expected me to do that with no time for making an income so I can have a place to live, or food to keep me alive, and said she wouldn't allow me to sleep on her sofa or have so much as a cup of her tea, she learned the value of being as respectful to your kids as you expect them to be to you, because I let her know what she expected was unreasonable

I really feel for OP. My mother was also extremely abusive and made me homeless a couple of times. Also, had the police take me away and lock me up in the looney bin in a bid to take my kids. Thankfully the doctors saw right through it and I was released after a couple of days. I do have bi-polar, OCD, severe anxiety and PTSD but I take my meds and work on myself. Anyway, I have been no contact with her for a decade now bc even tho I forgave her for all she did to me and my brothers, I couldn't forgive her when she started fuking w my kids. That was my line. She treated us so badly that I never wanted kids for fear that I wouldn't know how to love them and treat them properly. My kids are amazing and doing amazing btw. As of my last contact with her she was still in denial about all the horror she put us through. My 3rd stepdad had no clue about any of it. She even threw my middle brother out when he was 3years old!! In the middle of the night. And proceeded to act like he never existed, but I remembered him clearly which caused severe trust issues my whole life bc if I can't trust my mother who in the world could I trust?? She lied to my stepdad and told him my brother was severely retarded and had to be institutionalized. Imagine his surprise when my perfectly normal brother showed up one day!! My aunt was dying and she loved me like no one else and knew where he was, so her parting gift to me was reuniting us. Unfortunately for him our father was also a POS so he didn't get to avoid the abuse. He just had a different abuser. I hope OP can someday put all the pain and misery behind. I'm an adult w 4 kids and I still deal with a lot bc of my childhood.

I was the "official" photographer (note I'm not a professional photographer, however I do take some great photo's) at my friends wedding a couple of years ago... I did it for free and they loved the photos I took (now I'm wishing I asked for some payment). We're still friends and at least I was fed, but I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I wasn't sick at the time.

Wow that story is a lot like mine I survived despite my mother's attempts to extinguish my life. Age 41 in 2010, I had enough of the hands around my throat. I haven't seen any of the family since.

To the op of the first story, on the 12th of next month (Sept) I will be sober for 26 years through AA. I can vouch for this program if you are willing to give it your all. May you find sobriety and peace of mind. You can look up local meetings on the internet. Best wishes!

On story one, I really hope he gets help. He keeps sliding down. A support group may help but he has to let go and realize you can't change what others did to you. Only what you do for you. I was in foster care and it was a nightmare. I got adopted and life got better but I almost blew it. Stop beating yourself up for what others have done it was out of your control. You now have control and need help getting a grip of it. A good friend to help if nothing else or volunteer for a shelter and share with others. Find what will help you. There are many paths and drop the load of guilt. It was not your fault.

For story 4- wtf?! They couldn’t even give OP any food or water?? That’s appalling. I work as a character actor for kids’ birthday parties and events and the hosts are always kind enough to offer me food and water even when I’m working. I’d do the same for anyonE if I were to host an event. It’s just human decency

Honestly Opie the first story this is a case that's more common than you realize whether it's a mother it's a father I understand everything you're going through. I just want you to know that there is hope no matter what don't ever forget hope there is a way you can survive this and you can overcome just don't forget that your brother and sisters believe in you and I love you and that's sometimes stronger than death love is stronger than death and Hate and and for what it's worth your mother got exactly what she wanted she wanted to consequences and she got consequences. Sometimes people make their own Karma right her people realize it or not

No one can truly judge you for your actions because it’s near impossible to know exactly the full experience the lead to certain actions you made your choice and whether people agree or disagree is beside the point since it doesn’t really matter since you’re the only one who was affected aside from your siblings and your horrible mother. My point as you are the one who had to live through the suffering and nobody can fully appreciate the position you were in. The only thing I’ll be curious about is know everything has been done how do you feel about it

story 1: what about you also press charges for multiple counts of attempted murder and assault (basically what she did to you all those years): in addition to all you did, she could also get life in prison (yes, the sentence for ONE count of attempted murder is life in prison, so you can imagine what could happen to her...)
