    I know, right!? I sometimes have to quarantine my adult cats and they get the bathroom too. Even more crazy to me is to be mad at her giving rescue kitten a bath. I once had a Foster kitten that required 3 baths before she was rid of the flee. It's so important to eliminate them and also the kitten might not like the bath,but surely they appreciate when the hitch ends

    Well some people torment their pets for views and lot of those animal rescue videos are faked... people put animals in danger in order to "rescue" them. So out of context someone holding their cat in a bathroom for time out or quarantine... I might a bit suspicious if I knew nothing about the creator. Thank god Mary is one of the real ones ❤

    Giving them the benefit of the doubt, it's just people with good intent not knowing any better. People who haven't fostered nervous kittens or ferals don't know how an introduction to a huge new space with lots of things in it and new noises and smells can stress a nervous cat out, let alone thinking about the pathogens a cat of unknown origin can give to resident animals.

    People always get surprised when I say I keep kittens in the bathroom for the first while. They wonder how they can deal with such a small room. My response to them is always - would you rather the kittens be holed up in their own individual cages? Cuz that's probably what would happen if they were kept at the rescue or SPCA. For animals that are about the size of a large baked potato, a bathroom is a massive playground. It keeps them safe. It keeps them together. IMO people are losing their ability to think critically. If X isn't within their very narrow definition of "right", it's WRONG. There is no grey area. There's no gradient. No consideration of other factors that might be in play. Just WRONG.

    Heck, I would even go so far as to get a nice box and layer in some blankets and put it and kittens in the tub or shower enclosure to keep them even further contained - and so I wouldn’t be fishing kitties out from behind the toilet

    Never knew a kitten bath could be such a controversial subject?! 😂. Also, if a cat goes to a shelter, they get put into a cage…much smaller than a bathroom.

    So what I'm getting is that a bunch of people who don't know what they're talking about are trying to tell you how to do your job. Truly, you don't need to defend yourself or explain to us. You're the expert and people should trust that you know what you're doing. Also, much love to whoever was purring loudly throughout a good chunk of the video.

    EXPERT?! This person is destructive and has NO idea what they're doing!!! Cats are an invasive species. Trap Spay/Neuter REABANDON is a disgusting practice. Cats are a domestic pet not a wild animal. If you feed, medicate, aid them -> you admit they need the help and are not truly wild. If you believe they are the domestic pet they are you are terrible for fixing them and then letting them out loose to devastate local ecosystems and wildlife. TNR has been proven time and time again to NOT work. Cars, Dogs, wild animals, toxic chemicals, getting stuck up high or down low, harassing other peoples pets in their yards or killing other peoples pets, spreading disease, causing the extinction of over 30 bird/reptile/and small mammal species as well as endangering Monk Seals, spreading toxoplasmosis, pooping and peeing in garden boxes where a pregnant person might accidentally handle it, harming livestock, destruction of local environments and ecosystems, getting shot or tortured, and all you think you are doing is reducing population. News flash, you're not. It doens't actually stop new cats from moving in and doesn't solve the issues stated above. Not to mention cats being released could go on other peoples property and cause distress, marking, and behavioral issues as well as anxiety in indoor only cats. And I am barely scratching the surface. You let cats outdoors? You suck. You TNR? You suck. You feed ferals? You suck. This is all hot garbage and just a feel good response with self back patting. People are only seeing awww cute "fwuffy aminawls getting rescuuuuuued." and not caring about the millions of animals cats have killed because ItS iN tHeIr NaTuRe. BULLSHIT. If someone did this with dogs their would be a storm. If someone let their dog maul a feral cat "deemed wild right?" it would be abuse. Let a cat kill a rare almost exstinct song bird? NaTuRe. Let a dog kill a duck at the duck pond? THe city is called. This double standard is bullshit and what you are perpetuating is a delusion. SHAME ON YOU! The most controversial thing you do is TNR.     I am not a kitten rescuer per se, but I did rescue a kitten last month. Had a terrible eye infection and turned out there was a foxtail in it. I've nursed it completely back to health and it has two beautiful blue eyes. Little baby Siamese. I kept it in the bathroom because we have a dog with an enormous prey drive who thought it was a gopher. So it was in a carrier in a walk-in shower, then in the larger part of the bathroom, and then eventually could prowl around in our bedroom. But I always had to keep that triple airlock to keep the dog away for safety. Luckily this kitten has a new home waiting for her in one week. I'm so excited. it's a wonderful home.

    I found that the easiest way to bathe a kitten is to get the Scruff of their neck and actually hold them on their back. They never see the water so they don't freak out. you dunk them slowly and gently down into the warm water and they seem to not even know that they're in water. By the time they catch on, the bath is over. LOL

    You’ve taught me so much, Mary, and I’m starting my own TNR program in my neighborhood where we are being overrun with feral kitties. I have no idea what I’m doing, but after watching you do this for 2 years, I feel like I have enough to get started. First appointments are in June! Thank you for all you do!

    Aww man, i saw the Moon pie video and was just charmed. He was more nervous than scared, clearly liked the attention, and was in a safe and appropriate place for a new rescue kitten, ESPECIALLY if you have other cats. I've had several rescues, and you have to protect them from an unfamiliar environment as well as larger, nosy, and possible territorial animals, as well as protecting your own pets from anything a rescue might be carrying. Also kittens can get heckin' dirty, that's why their moms spend so much time grooming them. If they are orphaned they can get into really bad situations very quickly. Fleas can kill a kitten, not to mention all the parasites and infections out there in the world. And if there's contaminants on their coats, the only option they have to get clean is to lick it off, which obviously can be so, so much worse than a couple minutes of mild stress. The knee-jerk reactions people have on YT, i swear. Then you see a click-bait video of someone 'rescuing' an animal either in an inappropriate way, in a way that put the animal in danger just to get better footage, or fully staged, and people just melt. Keep doing the good work, don't let the haters get you down!

    Considering how many people did not understand the need to quarantine during the pandemic, are you really surprised? The only people who are upset at these videos do not have a basic understanding of rescue and rehab. I love that you are educating, but know that there will always be those comments. keep up the fantastic work!! When I got my rescue dog, even though he was from a shelter, he still had hook worm, fleas and other infections. They hadn't bothered to wash the flea dirt off of him and left him with a nasty infection from his neutering. He never should have been in there a month like that. It took a year of vet visits, a month of isolating him and lots of love to get him rehabbed.

    Hey Mary, I'm one of the new guys and my first video was in fact Moonpie. I fell in love with that tiny bundle of rage and involuntary cuteness and stuck around because I like seeing the chaos of my own mind reflected in other people. I do some rescue stuff on the side, though more the dog-related side of things and I'm very, very particular about how to treat animals, I've lost friends over the topic and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I've binged your entire youtube channel by now and at no point did I get any inclination that anything you did came from anything but a place of knowledge, care and love for your animals. I've also semi unconsciously started to great my dogs and cat with 'it's good mornings'... Please keep letting us peak into your life like this, it helps me keep some faith in humanity.

    Yep. We brought my cat, Moose, straight off the streets last year. Quarantined her in my gf's office for 2 weeks to 1) protect gf's cat, Peanut from any diseases, 2) to help acclimate them.

    First Mr Kitty demanding attention is adorable 😍. Second, Mary has hundreds of babies come through in a year and has gone through almost everything, so please ask nicely or follow on everything and look back to understand. Mary does an amazing job with every baby.

    It’s wild to me to see you having to address these “controversies”. Been following on TikTok since Ed, so it just blows my mind that people don’t realize what all of this is about!     I've never watched any of your videos before and this one just popped up on my feed. As a cat dad myself, I wanted to see what the "controversies" were. After watching the video, I realized that there weren't any. Clearly there are just trolls or people that simply don't have experience with cats not bothering to do a second of research. I only have one cat but would be willing to take in another one. After a few minutes of Googling, the very first thing I learned was the quarantine process for the protection of each cat. Sigh, just do some research people. If you're watching her videos, then you have the ability to Google.

    Whenever we got cats that were found the first place was always the bathroom. For the most part it‘s warm, has access to water to clean the cats, doesn‘t matter if it get‘s messy and it‘s not a integram part that our other cats frequent. It always worked very well to make sure the other cats don‘t get sick from potential sicknesses, get them used to being indoors and away from our cats who could have potentially hurt them. It was talked about with our vet numerous times, and discussed as the best method. Luckily we didn‘t have to take in any cats lately.

    Hi Mary! I am probably your biggest fan! I do some rescue as in, I find them, bring them home and love them LOL. I always put them in a timeout place to quarantine and protect my other fur babies. People are legit losing their minds! You are amazing and "Its good mornings"

    I love your channel so much because it reminds me of when I was little and would visit my godparent's farm, which became a cat sanctuary/paradise after their oldest cat, Speck, appeared 18ish years ago and had 2 litters in secret before they could spay her. I loved helping my godmother give flea baths and medicine(I was, and still am, the designated holder of the kitten burrito when administering eye/ear drops) to all of the new kittens my godfather would find around the property every spring, no matter how many cats they fixed(plus the fact that random cats were often seen just leaving their kittens at their house, so they always had a fresh supply of kittens lol). It taught me a lot about compassion and caring for animals, plus I got to play with kittens all the time, so it was a pretty sweet gig. You're doing a great thing by helping these cats get in good health so that they can go to their forever homes while also educating people about cat rescue. Good luck at vet school and keep up the good work!😊

    The bathroom is a fantastic place to quarantine. It’s mostly hard surfaces that is EASILY disinfected! Any cat that comes in from the street needs to be quarantined. They also need time in a quiet, close area to decompress and get used to the sounds and smells of a new space/home.

    I tend to forget that not everyone knows how cats work and how rescuing stray/street cats requires quarantining and sometimes bathing them. I find it absolutely silly that you have to explain these things, but then I remember what my mom used to tell me all the time, "You're not born knowing." I hope this video educates some of those commenters... though I know some people will continue to spit vitriol and anger about things they don't understand and refuse to learn about. Either way, glad to see the comments aren't bringing you down!

    So sick of hearing that “people” seem to think they know all. When I was younger we called them “know-it-alls”. Every rescue I have dealt with recommended keeping kittens in a bathroom. It’s a small space, it helps them feel less anxious. Those folks should STFU!

    What people need to realise is that quarantine is relatively short term. It keeps all other animals safe and it also allows kittens or cats to settle in. Is it exciting for them? Probably not but it's not for long and cats are masters at entertaining themselves. Bathing is also often a necessary evil. Mom isnt always there to keep them clean.

    I used to work at a shelter, and yeah, that's pretty much how we did things as well. Only we had a dedicated space with kennels for quarantine with a door separating it from the cats' room. Would have preferred a more open space, but that's just what you have to work with in a shelter situation. I don't think you're doing anything wrong, actually that's probably the best way. The best thing is that they have enough space to exercise, and they can get used to being indoors without feeling as trapped, which really helps with the socialization process.

    Here’s a quarantine story. I had two tiny bottle babies and acquired a third older bottle baby. That one developed ringworm about 12 days in. You know who hasn’t developed ringworm? My cats and the two other kittens. Or me but I’m constantly itchy although I think that might be like when you think about lice and your head itches.

    🤣 I wash all my animals once a week... at most every other week. Way too allergic to dust and dander to let those little dust mops all over my stuff without a shower. And I don't give a dingle berry if they don't like it.

    I had to quarantine and bath a kitten that i purchased (whose owner I consequently reported for animal cruelty). If an annmal is running alive with fleas, is full of worms, is potentially unwell and anaemic, it would be positively cruel to put it into a stressful introduction situation. Why anybody would comment on you being humane and caring reflects only on them. My kitten is now a healthy and very happy adult, hes a joy. 😊

    I love your content and think you are the bees knees!!! My coworker and I constantly wish we had a Mary here in North Louisiana to help us with all stray and feral bebehs that are in our area. We have several rescues but no-one that is really doing a lot of TNR. WE NEED THAT! Anywhos, you just keep doing you and being the awesome self you are and if you happen to figure out how to clone yourself please send your clone here to help us. PLEASE!     People were upset about quarantining a cat in the bathroom? I've done that with my rescue. And I'm glad I did cause it turned out he had ringworms and ear mites and some small injuries from other cats beating him up. Putting him in the bathroom was much better than putting him in a cage; it kept my other cats from getting ringworms, and the bathroom was just so much easier to disinfect. It's just what's safer for everyone in the house. The stray is mine now, by the way lol He suddenly showed up among the cat colony behind my house. But the rest of the cats from the colony were feral; this guy was a friendly Persian kitten that clearly wasn't doing so well being outside in the heat we got here in the Middle East. I rescued him cause he was in bad shape. Very skinny. It was back during Covid lockdown when there was an increase in people dumping their pets for some reason. There was no word from his previous owners and I ended up adopting him. His name's Roy now :3 He's not very bright. Still a good little dude.

    I was like, controversial, what is she about to say?? And it's about quarantine and bathing kittens?? Have these people ever owned a stray kitten?? I mean, of all the crap on the internet to complain about, you choose to go after kitten baths?? And you either enjoy being devoured by fleas or you've given a cat a flea bath... Or you've never owned am animal that's been outside.

    I have two new fosters right now who need baths because they smell like pee. I recently had an undersocialized mom cat who needed several baths because she had five kittens and uncontrollable diarrhea, and it was necessary sometimes. It was necessary for the kittens sometimes too. They've been living in dirt and brought half of it with them. They have fleas. They have ringworm. There are half a dozen really obvious reasons to bathe a foster kitten, but people like to be outraged and thinking gets in the way of that. For god only knows what reason, people don't see quarantine as a sensible precaution in case there's a problem. It just doesn't seem to even cross their minds. 🤷‍♀️ I'm going to argue about Obie, though. That cat was never feral; adult ferals don't just turn around like that. He was a previously socialized cat who was abandoned or lost, no longer used to people, and after he was snipped and the hormones subsided he started to remember. When we did TNR in our old neighborhood, we saw it over and over again.

    I have done dog rescue a long time. Quarantine is kinda - standard. Also, introducing new critters to each other slowly and under controlled circumstances.

    Q/T and it’s easier to sanitize as well as clean a bathroom when litter training, over your carpet! And Fleas, cause babies to become anemic very quickly, and the next level is a poor dead kitty. Dawn dish soap, a quick bath in warm running water, one and done! Every other day for typically 10-14 days is what the vet’s recommended I believe, if I remember correctly. I do 14 days since you cannot treat them, and the eggs continue to hatch, even with flea combing the poor things to death. If your viewers saved just one limp, starving, infested, whitegummed, poor anemic baby just once, they would never ask again. And I do equine rescue, not even cats. But don’t ask me how I’m currently trying to find the money to fix 20ish cats I’ve taken in, some bottle fed, most even now pet ready, living in my 24 ft camper with me, my husband and our 3 dogs! My neighbor laughs and tells me they are like potato chips, “you can’t rescue just one!”. Considering my husband is the one footing the bill on feeding them all, and litter, and I refuse to buy the cheapest crap on the market, I’m sure he wishes I could!     I suppose that means I am the most evil of evils bc two of my cats spend every night in my son's bedroom with the door closed. I've got 5. 1 is chaos, just straight up...chaos. The other is super stressed by all the other cats EXCEPT chaos cat. Go figure. So they spend all their unsupervised by me time in my now 16 year olds room together.

    Tbh if you let your cat outdoors (which is INCREDIBLY bad for the cat and for the local environment) and someone takes your cat and gives them a safe and comfy home indoors, then thats on you! Shouldve been a better pet owner and not just let your cat roam wild outside. Ur little orange cat whose name ive immediately forgotten im so sorry i cant click off and check. He was clearly feral from the og videos but- even if he hadnt been and had been someones pet, i still would think you in the right! People shouldnt be letting their cats outdoors!

    Is it ok to introduce fosters to residential kitties after quarantine even if they have had vaccinations yet? I have appointments set for my fosters to all get fixed and shots, but until then I want to slowly bring them out one at a time to see how they do. They have been in a spare “kitten” bedroom for 3 weeks because I have been afraid to let them mingle.

    I would ask your vet, but even with dogs they say not to mingle until the vaccines. While the others may not be sick, they could be carriers. But best to consult with your vet.

    This is why I hate people ..,...how many kittens/cats have those people rescued? I've only rescued a few in my life, and when I do they become mine. Had to give one away and about my landlord lt out of my house. The one I have now goes in and out and since I poor haven't been able to spay her and she's had kittens so I have four at the moment .....idk hopefully I can find a program to help spay/neuter these idk what to do but KiKi tris to escape always and won't stay put. She always comes back she loves us but I have four young kids an she's quick

    2:45 "Someone's pet that you stole" you know what, commenter i dont know? If a cat is outside (and the owners either admit to letting them out unsupervised or can't be found), *that's a free cat*. There are so many hazards to an unsupervised cat outside, and to be honest? They probably aren't going to question where the cat is for more than a month or two before they decide something (car, coyote, dog, etc) killed them. Sure, they might be sad, but they made the choice to allow the cat to wander by itself.

    I've rescued many cats and kittens and the bathroom is the safest space for them. Because it IS the bathroom, it is the easiest room to do a very deep clean. There's no contact between my cats and the rescued babies. Anyone who has to express their uneducated opinion about the bathroom being a cruel place should open their mind to the fact that we do it this way for several reasons they can't even imagine and it is better to get yourself educated about the thing you're going to complain about.

    People are dumb. They make comments on things they don't understand. Don't explain yourself. You are actually saving kittens. They are not. You are DOING something. They are typing on a keyboard. All the advice I ever heard was to quarantine a cat and that bathrooms are best because A) cats feels safer in a small place when they are in a new stressful situation and B) hard surfaces are easier to clean Quarantine is necessary to protect the other cats in the house.
