Hey there, Dre. I remember when my brother-in-law was stationed in Korea in the 80s and he saw so many fake Dooney and Bourke handbags and fake Nike shoes and merchandise. He even brought a few bags home but they were so badly made that it was easy to tell. These days they aren’t so easy to distinguish between them and real bags with “super fakes” are now a thing. Wow! 😮 I’m really too old to have been played like that. Because when I think about it, when I was growing up in the 80’s Dooney and Coach were considered luxury to most people and there were definitely fakes circulating back then. It just slipped my mind. Thx for watching!

Girl you got me side eyeing my tote bag now! I purchased my first MJ tote from farfetched and I feel like the color has changed over time. For this reason alone I try to get most of my items from authorized retailers. These fake bags are too good these days. TFS ❤

Crazy thing is I’m old enough to remember when Dooney and COACH were considered luxury. And there were fakes floating around back then. But that’s been decades and it just slipped my mind that that was even a thing. Thank you for watching!

Sorry that you got duped with a fake. These sellers now a days will make anything look good and throw in all kinds of fancy words and omit the ones they hope you don't catch missing. I never shop on Mercari or PM as I feel those two sites lack a lot of integrity. Thanks for the video. Always good to be reminded of these things to keep us on our toes. HugS!

I still shop on Mercari. I’ve learned you can get a fake on any platform. You just have to know what to look for. And back when it happened my antennas for fake contemporary bags just weren’t up 😂

Thank you for sharing and making others aware. I’m sorry that happened to you. As for contemporary, on the purseforum, me and mushroomngrass started a thread on the D&B forum about fakes that have been popping up on the resale sites. We’ve found fake “Florentine” satchels, they are shells of the bag bought from sites like Temu. Your video reminded me to share a pic on my community post, of some fake D&B and Longchamp bags I found at Goodwill.

I felt so silly for not authenticating that bag as soon as it arrived. I had to chalk it up to lesson learned. Now I authenticate everything on my own.

@@Drelovesbags exactly. When I started out buying vintage D&B, I bought a bag from ThredUp (they state they authenticate their items 🙄)that was clearly fake. Now, I always reverse image search, use my folder full of old catalogue pix, to authenticate on my own. I will admit to having some difficulty when it comes to vintage Coach, because some items are hard to tell until you receive it. I’ve had that happen once with a Coach bag from Goodwill Finds.

Yeah, it’s always a crap shoot if you can’t touch and feel it before buying. But that’s why I now stay on top of everyone’s return policies so I can authenticate AFTER receiving the bag. I talk about that in my ebook. Thx for watching!

I'm sorry that happened to you. I was shock when I saw a fake Juicy Couture the cheap ones that was $20 at Burlington. I was like these people are out of control and I wish Mercari and Poshmark would do a better job weeding these people out. It's not fair to people seeking authentic bags.

It really isn’t. But in this case, I had to take responsibility for not doing my own due diligence. Which is partly why I decided to make a video about it, even though it happened a couple of years ago. And also what prompted me to write the quick e-book just to provide some tips and tools for people who may be new to purchasing online. So something good did come out of it. Thank you for sharing your story with us! I'm so sorry this happened to you. As a frequent buyer/seller on Mercari, I know that the app is against any selling of fake bags. My biggest concern is the fact that you rated and approved the transaction. I don't know if Mercari would side with the buyer once they "accepted" the item. I totally agree with you. Contemporary brand replicas make no sense.

Exactly! I was over zealous and accepted it before I realized it wasn’t real. I sell on eBay a lot so I don’t fault Mercari at all. It’s the individual sellers on these platforms. I know I didn’t mention that in the video but I do speak on it in the ebook. As a matter of fact I’ve purchased a few items on Mercari since then with no issues.

This is the reason I prefer going to the boutique or store itself, they always have on sale anyway. But it's a different story if you want to find a bag that is vintage, limited edition or discontinued like what you have mentioned. And it's terrifying to know that there are replicas now of contemporary brands, the fact they are so affordable compare to those outrageously overpriced bags/brands. Sorry that it happened to you.

I know. But I’m always late to the party and by the time I fall in love with a style or color it’s discontinued and I have to get it on the resale market lol. But I’ve learned a lot over the last five or six years so I’m way more confident buying pre-love now.

Yep. I’ve see a ton of fake contemporary bags on Mercari. Normally, they will appear brand new from a seller with very low sales number. And the handles are always wrapped the same way. Plus the same pictures are used on multiple listings.

I also got a fake Marc Jacob’s the tote bag from Mercari. Mercari caught it and made the seller give me the money back and I was able to keep the fake. If I buy another tote bag, it’ll be directly from the Marc Jacob’s website. They’re too easy to duplicate.

I'm sorry for your experience. Unfortunately, you're not the first to be fooled. I see so many of these types of listings now that I won't even consider buying from these sites (Mercari, Poshmark). Side note: The background music was loud and competed with you.

Thx for letting me know about the music! I was just telling someone else I still shop on Mercari. You can get a fake on any site. I know what to look for now though when it comes to the contemporary pieces.

I bought 3 fake Jo Malone perfume, 3 Mugler and 1 Tom Ford.... all fakes from ebay and mercari

They have $60 ebay fakes that look kinda real but very slouchy. A new purse enthusiast could be fooled

The year did not say 1969 when the listing was valid. I don’t think I made that clear. That would have definitely been a red flag.

It’s msdre85. I see now all the contemporary fakes. Some of then are so bad it’s obvious. But some are pretty decent 😩
