Wow, this brings back memories! In 1985, when the first-generation Teddy Ruxpin was new and very hard to get, a friends loaned me the one she found after much line-standing, before she gifted it to her children. Eventually I worked out the servo pulse encoding and was able to make a crude cassette that talked and moved the eyes and mouth. I wanted to take it further and make some funny content tapes but she really wanted it back, and that's probably good thing since there was a non-zero chance of me breaking it. Thanks Jenny!
Hi The one I modified many many years ago used a audio tape in its back . one channel of the stereo tape head was for audio , the other channel used tones to control the eyes and mouth . I no longer have the teddy ( kids now adults ) and I dont know if I still have any notes on the project . Alan

Yep that was the original. This version is like the retro revival, that is itself already retro...

I had that one in the 80s!!!
I love this so much. Thanks for sharing the journey of trying to get this to work. I can't wait to be able to do the same and get a toy that my daughter can use to listen to my voice, even if I'm not there or can't talk on the phone.
Thank you so much for this What amazing work going down rabbit holes and coming back out
Any progress on a tool to convert audio?
Congratulations! 🖖🐰🍷
Y'all are not good at helping me avoid impulse purchases...
