You should 100% do the music video. It's one of the best I've seen in YEARS. On its own, it's just a great, cinematic video. But it also gives a lot of context to the song without being too explicit or on the nose. And what genre are they? Yes. You'll love this rabbit hole, it's really fun. 🤘🔥🤘

Ghost is whatever genre Tobias Forge wants them to be whenever he wants them to be it. The only genre album was the first one and that was psychedelic doom metal. None of the others are focused on one genre. And the EP "Seven Inches of Satanic Panic" has like a 1969 happy Doors vibe. But that's the only time you can pin Ghost down to genres on a single release. Everything else jumps around. You will not be able to just listen to a handful of songs and know what Ghost is. That's just... kind of a waste. I know, I did that for years and then finally dived in and realized I had no idea what Ghost was until I listened to ALL of it.

It’s all the same. It’s somebody who in the beginning is drawn in, gradually gets spoken to at such a personal level and is then pulled deeper and deeper into the gravity of whatever you can imagine, the church, the devil, a cult, down to where their self is bonded.

Cirice literally means "church", it's the Anglo Saxon word for church (I studied Anglo Saxon)

This song won a Grammy in 2015 - so it’s impressed many. Ghost are some of the best songwriters in rock/metal today.

Glad that you liked it so much! For many it's their best song. Some suggestions : Life Eternal, Mary on a Cross, Square Hammer, Rats, Ghuleh / Zombie Queen.

Came upon them a month or so ago, when someone I trusted said I might like "Rats", and I was blown away. Over the next week, I listened to everything at random... But unholy hell when I listened to the albums through... OMG! Meliora an Prequelle. I use the phrase near-perfect, too, but I don't know why I'm balking on dropping the "near" out. Spilt Milk, Black Parade, Meliora. My top three fave albums of all time. When it's true love, ya know it!

I absolutely love the guitars on this. And yes, it is refreshing to hear clean vocals. When it comes to Ghost, just assume the song is about the dark lord, a.k.a. The Devil.

nothing more far from the truth, the lirycs is about the religon that control the masses, saying they know you and know your fears and your "scars".

Music, like classic melodic rock, that is still stuck in your head when you get out of bed to go to the wash room in the middle of the night or in the morning when you get out of bed.

I'm glad you liked this one! It's easily one of my favorites and was how I was introduced to them. I think you'll like a lot of their songs, but they are very "genre fluid" in that it's impossible to pin them down to one style. I think that Square Hammer and Rats will be easy ones for you to enjoy. P.S. - Yes, I've been ghosted a few times. It's not the most enjoyable feeling, but I'm glad things have worked out for you.

My reaction to Ghost is this: I have almost never listened to a Ghost song I liked right off the bat. I have almost never failed to fall completely in love with every Ghost song after repeated listens.

Never have I heard a song on the radio and then for days thought about it so much that I tracked down the song on the play list for the station that day. Cirice was the first song I heard from Ghost and I thought why have I not heard of this band before?? I was so excited that there were previous albums and that they had a new album. Man, listening to them for years now GHOST is a genre.

I think you would love "Ghouls/Zombie Queen", it's a very underrated masterpiece that brings a lot of nuances in a song. I'm so so glad you're enjoying their songs - My boyfriend also introduced me to Ghost by their Year Zero song as the first song, and in the bigging I was skeptical, but I listened to Rats, Dance Macabre, He Is - they all showed me how different and good Ghost is and how many different things they can do. I'm sure they've made something for every music taste!

This is my favorite Ghost song. There's a song with a similar idea called "Call Me Little Sunshine" from their latest album. Each of their albums has a different sound, so I'll recommend one from each. Ghost has one of the best fanbases of any band on the planet. Just read the comments beneath literally any Ghost reaction video. Half the joy I get out of watching these reactions is just reading the comments. Pretty much nothing but kind, helpful, informative, encouraging commentary.

Love the reaction. One of my favorite Ghost songs.. Especially when the calm piano part hit you the first time. :-) You are almost unable to fit Ghost into a single genre.. People call it doom metal, heavy metal, poppy metal, rock, pop, prog metal, and everything in between.. Tobias, the creative songwriting genius, write songs inspired by a lot of music from the 70's and 80's.. You should definitely check out more of their stuff, as you will find a lot of excellent songwriting and stuff to listen to.. My recommendations for you to check out would be: You did "Cirice" now.. and you could listen to "He is" and "From the pinnacle to the pit" (from Meliora album), "Faith" and "Rats" (From Prequelle album), "Kaisarion", "Call me little sunshine" and "Hunter's moon" (from Impera album)... And as a bonus to hear something totally, totally.... totally different... listen to "Twenties" (from Impera album) Enjoy :-)

Ghost’s first three records’ diversity of style, excellent musicianship, and tongue-in-cheek dark lyrics sung with a blear voice remind me of Blue Öyster Cult.

I discovered Ghost with Year Zero and this song Cirice and i was a fan but not a HUGE fan until the latest album Impera. the latest album is a masterpiece it's a 99 out of 10. When it comes to Cirice, i believe the word is old english for church (or something like that). he's singing from the devil's POV but ig the "devil" can be a substance or however you want to apply it.

Glad you enjoyed the song. Ghost is a very fluid band. The songs never fit one genre. There new album is quite different from Cirice, but it is still amazing. Tobias changes things up each album as the character that he portrays changes. The whole Ghost mythos that has been created is genius!

I always thought this song was more about the people in the shadows who are never noticed or cared about, rather than "the dark one". That we know you are there, we see and understand you.

If breathtaking beautiful vocal harmonies and chord progressions are your thing, you have to try " HE IS " , a brilliantly beautiful ballad by Ghost.

Danse Macabre, Rats, Square Hammer would be my next choices for Ghost songs. They are all pretty catchy.

The 2010-2016 incarnation of Ghost were, in my opinion, the best that was to be in Ghost history. Tobias, Martin, Simon, Aksel, and the rest.

You'll freaking love Zombie Queen and He Is. Both songs are "a genre of their own".

This is what I personally classify as haunted metal just feels right

They have done the "addiction talking" in another song, I could see it working for this as well

Yes, I have been ghosted. 16 years ago. It sucked, but only for a little while. Then, someone much, much better came along. Actually, he was already there. Hang in there. This song was the first of their's that I heard, before your first Ghost video. I really like it. But, there's something about his voice. To my ears, it's almost like some boy band guy is singing. It sounds good, but it's confusing to my ears. I guess I need to hear more.

Tho I am not a big Ghost fan, my favorite song by them Majesty.

Honestly, one of my favorite things is watching people argue on what genre Ghost is. Cause you got songs like Faith, From the Pinnacle to the Pit, and Mummy dust which are more metal. Then you have Kaisarion, Kiss the Go-Goat, and Dance Macabre which pop rock. Then you got songs like He Is and Cirice which feel totally out of left field. If you want more ghost I’d recommend Rats, Mary on a Cross, Stand by Him, Square Hammer, Kaisarion, and Call me Little Sunshine.(please ignore me if I got the genre names wrong, I’m horrible at these things)

I think this song is about religion but it could also be about addiction. I've seen many comments that say this song helped them overcome a lot of the guilt they had instilled within them from a really strict religious upbringing. But as with all music it means whatever speaks to you personally

To me this ties together with He Is.

I think it’s about circles.

Your interpretation of the song is great, from a realistic point of view. Knowing Ghost, the song most likely is about an ostracized girl that the Devil sees and seduces with kind words like "I understand you, we're the same, I can help you". What he does to the girl after that is not precise, we don't know if he has evil intents or if he's really in love with her, but that's the Devil, so... I wouldn't bet on a happy life for the girl. Even though her life sucked to begin with

It's two meanings. It's Satan telling somebody they're not as bad as the church tells them and that he accepts them for them. It's a play on how churches prey on people's insecurities in order to draw them in and manipulate them. "Cirice" is actually another word for "Church". Watch the video. Really puts the song into context better. All of their songs have at least two meanings... a lot of the songs in Prequelle have 3 meanings.

With everything Ghost I take what the song feels like its about, but then add Satan. Its basically foolproof for this band. This one feels like its about someone claiming to know you better than you know yourself and offering to help you, but its Satan so its just a demonic possession. He Is is another song they did which sounds like either a love song or a hymn about god, it is a sort of hymn/love song but its about loving Satan.

Since the whoie image-thing and I guess the gimmick about Ghost is about occult themes, darkness and the devil I always assume the lyrics are about that somehow... It's all about entertainment nothing serious, probably will annoy some religious people. I really like Ghost, not sure I'd call it metal, but I see similarities with the band Blue Öyster Cult. Ghost is like a triple trick, - first you see pictures thinking omg what is this, looks evil. Then you hear them "wait this isn't as brutal as I expected, it's actually good!" and then you realize what the lyrics are about "wait what...?" LOL To me Ghost is just great music and good fun. i don't care about genres. Tobias Forge is a genious imho. Have you heard The Beatles "Here comes the Sun"? Ghost made a cover of that and to me it's just brilliant. How to make a happy song into...well something darker. Also - you are funny. 🙂

I would *generally* genre-ise Ghost as "Symphonic Rock"...as that is a commonality to alot of their songs... Something you should know...Tobias/Papas has a love for the classic horror movies and stories... Cirice (Latin for Church), was inspired by Carrie...the meaning behind the song becomes alot more obvious when you see the Music Video for the song...everything kinda falls into place. Alot of the songs from the Meliora Album have meanings and references like that... Prequela, however, changes that up, with the songs having deeper metaphoric commentary; such as "Rats" being about Twitter and Social Media. Ghost know their stuff... ...Also, Aether forever! Fight me, Sodo-ists! :P

Intro sounds a lot like Metallica to me.

I don't love this band. But I do like this band, and i do LOVE this song. Ghost turned my 72-year old auntie into a true metalhead. Two weeks ago she asked if I had ever heard of Iron Maiden. I have Ghost to thank for this.

I know this song won(Ghost) a Grammy. But it's not even in my top 10. The lyrics are great, but the song (itself) it's a bit sludgy and repetitive. I'd rather hear" Rats" "monstrance clock" or "Ritual"
