    Everyone who journals seems to think so carefully about what journals they use and end up with favourites and by comparison I just go to a shop see a cute note book with a cute picture on it or pretty pattern and add it to my box of blank notebooks then each time I need a new one I just pick one from the box.

    Ellie, you are the one who inspired my commonplace journal journey, and I'm forever grateful! I've only been journaling since December, so about 5 months. The first month was a struggle learning all about all the journals. At this stage of my life, I MUST journal daily! These are my current journals in the works: 1 daily life journal 1 commonplace 1 reading journal 1 memory/special moments journal 1 creative/scrapbook journal 1 fountain pens and inks journal. That's SIX A5s going at the same time plus an 8x8 recipes journal. I filled my first daily writing journal in 107 days, and I'm already several pages into a new one. I'm estimating 1 A5 journal per quarter! I'm also thinking of starting morning pages to clear my mind off all the crazy before starting my day. Writing makes me so very happy! I'm so glad you've found your journal happy place, too! Thank you again for all the inspiration!

    Oh this is so lovely to hear - thank you for the kind words 🥰 I'm so happy to have inspired you, and I'm so glad that you've found journalling so helpful! I can definitely vouch for morning pages - I kept them for ages, and they really helped with clearing my head!

    This reminded me to journal and commonplace for the day! Thank you ❤ I put it all in one journal atm, because of my adhd brain telling me I’ll lose more than one. I have been struggling a lot lately with sensory overload and meltdowns so I love that list. As a 19 yr old I feel silly having meltdowns which makes them worse, but I have to remember sometimes that’s just what I need to do to release my emotions. 😊

    You're so welcome!!! 🥰 Totally understand that fear of losing multiple books - I get that too! Sorry to hear about the sensory struggles too. To validate you, having meltdowns isn't silly no matter your age - it's just part and parcel of living in a world that's not built for neurodivergent folks!

    yes~! My planners end up being an after thought/documenting rather than planning, and I love how that worked for me. I'd rather track what's been done than list the to-do's cause honestly all the todos tend to disappoint me because overachiever habits die hard. gotta love plotting and hating myself for not crossing it out of my list. The weeks layout has been great for me so far but I wish there was a larger space for it. For commonplace, emotion outlet writing, I simply went with a freely noted type. Not even the expensive type because I already know I wouldn't care if my writings are ineligible. I just need the thoughts to be out of my head. Unlike others, those writings are something I hate reading back, unlike my Weeks. I feel the emotional journal for me is unreal, a burst of irrational fears and most likely a spur of hormonal imbalance that reading it makes me puke. But what happened to me on the Weeks was real. It happened, I did it. And I will look back at my small wins and losses.

    Ooooooft the mention of overachiever habits/to-do lists not being helpful because of that really resonated with me!! Same 🥲 I had the same issue with the weeks tbh - lovely layout, just not enough space! And totally understand about needing that distinction between the emotional outbursts and the more 'real' day-to-do. You put it so beautifully! ❤️

    ooooo yes a new notebook 😍 i've also be journaling for an extremely long time and found that a5 is my favorite. nice to know that other people are as selective as me about the paper/layout/feel/pages/lines specifics because i have definitely tried enough that i know some things just DONT work for me i really wish i could get into rings but for some reason i just cant, i'm a bound book college ruled or tiny grid (graph, NOT DOTS) person

    Around the 9 minute mark, when you said you needed a notebook to just write things down and vent, it reminded me of Morning Pages - can't remember if you've ever mentioned them before? If not, basically it's (ideally) a daily practice where you do stream-of-consciousness writing (longhand) until you've filled up 3 pages. I've been doing it for a year and a half now (though I've fallen behind the last few weeks), and it really does make me feel better for it. I've been going through a lot of feelings this week so I think something needs attention, and I think getting back into that groove is going to help! It sounds like you've got your own version of Morning Pages going on and it's helping :)

  • @ellies_books_

    @ellies_books_

    Ahhhh yes! I've tried morning pages so many times! Definitely a helpful practice; I just struggle a bit with approaches that are quite rigid, so I've never been able to stick with it for too long. I'm also really not a morning person and usually wake up so late that I have to go straight to work 😅 But you've inspired me to maybe give it another go!! I hope you're doing okay with going through a lot of feelings, and that this week is better for you!
