How I use my commonplace book~ an extension to the Hobonichi °~
Welcome to The Common Corner,
today I wanted to share the other half of my analogue archiving system~ the common place books.
I go through how I started and how my current system works, in a slightly unorganised way, but formulating your own system isn't always very organised~ and that is okay! Let's flow with it~ :)
Enjoy, and see you again soon °~
At 24:00 ~ a flip through of the past week, with reflections on the near future

I knew I recognized your accent in another video! :DD (I also have those same black and white flower washi stickers your sister gave you, so that helped, too.)
The name Common Corner, when I first saw it, made me think about the Series of Unfortunate Events film and a quote from it that really stuck with me for all these years. "Sanctuary is a word which here means a small safe place in a troubling world. Like an oasis in a vast desert or an island in a stormy sea. The Baudelaire’s enjoyed their evening in the sanctuary they helped build together, but in their hearts they knew that the troubling world lay just outside. A world, which I’m sad to say, can be described in two dismal words."

What a beautiful, and deep in its meaning, of a quote! Thank you for sharing it.

@@OktoberJournal The quote itself can bring some gloominess in its presence, but I think everyone has their own connotations to the name "The Common Corner". All of them are equally valid! I hope you've enjoyed being here so far ~ :)

@@TheCommonCorner My comment was a nod to A Series of Unfortunate Events ;) The books have been my favorite since I was little, and I hold the movie dear in my heart (I won't talk about the netflix series :x). I know I will have a good time on your channel, it's very lovely

Thank you so much! I am fond of my current system too 🥰🌾 Will do, I am really enjoying my sunday-sit downs with the camera 📽✨️
Great video! I’m currently struggling between the idea of common placing and my old bullet journal methods. It’s similar to the idea of “collections” in the bullet journal method. I used a bullet journal for 7 years or so. This is my first year using an Avec. I guess I’m bucking against more restrictive feel of a planner. I may need an additional notebook that is undated. I love how you set up your system.

I really understand the initial feelings "against" the structure that a dated planner offers~ I found it super helpful when moving on from bullet journaling to go to an undated planner at first! And then I realised that I actually crave the structure of a proper planner, as long as I have an accompanying book which is completely up to me to set up~ in the end, it is always possible to go back to bullet journaling, if you feel that works best for you, but I do agree with many others that trying different systems (and getting excited about new notebooks hehe) is part of the fun ^^ I'd love to hear about how you've been getting on with your Avec, if you're comfortable sharing:) Glad to have you here, and thanks for your sweet comment!~
New to your channel. This video was lovely. I love your idea to make your commonplace book an extension of your hobonichi! For me the hobonichi cousin is almost always plenty of space. But those days I'm really in the mood to write I find myself just journaling elsewhere so I have enough room. Also, my hobonichi is memorykeeping for my family so theres many more personal or broody thoughts I might not put in it for the sake of my children. You have given me the idea to even connect a journal with more personal thoughts to my hobonichi so I can more easily find a flow between the two for myself. I can't wait to watch more of your videos!

I absolutely adore this. I love writing and journals too. I tried common placing last year and it didn’t work but I think this year I can finally try it.

You can do it! Good luck~ enjoy the process👏💌
Another gorgeous video! I love your style of common place book and how you've adapted it to include what works for you. I've ordered a spring Hobinichi Cousin and 2 notebooks (not the super slim ones like yours) and I like the idea of having the planner and a notebook in the one cover so you can spill your thoughts into the common planner when you have filled your planner page. Anyway, I hope work isn't too rough this week x

You are my hero for talking about how you save stickers with the open circles. I use the stalogy dot stickers and it was stressing me out bc I could never find them 😅

Hehe~ I just saw your other comment too, hello again! And thank you again! I've been drawing since I was very little, but started to do these little sketches of humans (in the style that you can see in the video) maybe three years ago, portraits have become my favorite to draw although my skills do not extend to realism at all ^^

"noun: commonplace book; plural noun: commonplace books a book into which notable extracts from other works are copied for personal use." In video you are talking about journal, not commonplace book. Your books are stunning though.

Thank you so much for the complement! I agree that I have been using the term "commonplace" in the non-traditional way, just a place for everything! Including journaling bits. But your comment has inspired to try and separate my personal thoughts from my actual commonplace entries, I talk a bit about it in the new video. Thanks for being here :)
