My IONIQ 5 Visit To Tesla Magic Dock...Greatest Backup Charger For Your CCS Car.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I loved the Magic Doc Tesla charging experience. My friend Andy (E-TRON owner) goes on a short road trip to experience the Magic Doc. I have nothing but good things to say about Tesla chargers and in many ways it is a better experience than using Electrify America. The future is already here and it is going to get nothing but better as Tesla becomes the charging standard.

The fact that Tesla charging stations do not have LCD screens that try to provide information is surprisingly smart. I wanted to know everything, and I wanted to see it on the charging station. But then I started seeing BUSTED screens, which made me think that the entire charging station was not functional. So good insights by Tesla.

Welcome to Tesla!! Those of us with the Tesla vehicles will validate that the supercharger network is the biggest unrealized reason to enjoy our vehicles. I had to smile when you guys were excited with the ability to start charging in under a minute, as Tesla owners are pissed if was to take 30 seconds :)

Thank you so much for posting this video! It seems Tesla/Hyundai have figured out the software issues that was limiting the charging to 47kw. I am glad to see the voltage booster is working as it should at a Supercharger. Charging at 98kw is perfectly acceptable! Going from 10-80 in 37 minutes is kind of industry standard for most 400v cars with this size battery anyways. Once adapters come out, this will be a fantastic option and alternative to other sub 150 kw public chargers out there. Of course if there are working 350 kw chargers nearby, I'll definitely still use those. Watching my EV6 juice up in less than 20 minutes still blows my mind.

The fact that the charge remained steady at ~97kW is impressive! That's just as fast, perhaps faster, than a Tesla would charge there. Yes, my Model 3 would start charging at 250kW, but it would then start dropping precipitously all the way down to 60kW upon reaching 80%. If Tesla would just start opening up other Superchargers without Magic Docks for those who have their own adapters from Lectron or A2Z… I'd immediately buy an Ioniq 5 like yours. Thanks for posting this!

Thank you for this video. I have a Genesis and and was curious how the Tesla chargers would do when the adapters come out. 98kw is manageable as a backup. When I had a CCS Hertz rental in LA the only working CCS charger around Hollywood was some odd ball that got 60kw at a Sprouts. Hitting a Tesla charger would have been great.

The Magic Dock equipped Supercharger locations in Montrose and Craig are right next to existing 200 kW ChargePoint DCFC. For our Ioniq 5 the ChargePoint provides a much faster charge and is cheaper.

Since EGMP vehicles currently use the rear motor as an inverter on 400v chargers, it limits the speeds to around 97kws. I'm sure that from now on Hyundai/Kia will provide a better inverter on newer models now that Tesla has opened its network to them.

I expect Electrify America will convert to NACS plug soon and CCS will go away entitely in North America. CCS is the Betamax of EV plugs

Yes it is...However all CCS cars will function with adaptors, just like Tesla users work with when they want a 350 kilowatt charger. That is precisely what a magic doc is and it would not surprise me if someone from Tesla would state that the software already exists to have every Tesla charger work like a magic doc in the near future.

@@electricprincipal543 Another possibility is that they modify the inflation reduction act to no longer require CCS compatibility to qualify for the federal incentives given the current trends. If that happens then Tesla won’t have to spend money on magic docks since most automakers are offering free adapters anyways. We shall see.

Nope...still own one with my brother. However, I love the heat pump and the ability to warm the battery before going to chargers in the Ioniq 5. Never thought I would own a Korean car, but they make an outstanding product. Still going to do some VW videos in the near future.

@@electricprincipal543 Bob, do you mean the Tesla Supercharger app as opposed to the Tesla app? So does this mean we don’t need to buy a Tesla charger adapter for our 2024 Ioniq 5? How long did it take you to charge your car in this video?

The sad thing is that 5 months after your made this video, you can’t to anywhere from Colorado and have access to a Magic Dock-equipped Tesla Supercharger. There are none in New Mexico, 2 in Texas, none in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, 1 in Nebraska, none in the Dakotas, Montana, Utah, etc etc. The Magic Dock program has been an enormous bust for Tesla. I assume the reason they are not building any more Magic Docks is because they are waiting for EV makers to switch to the NACS connector, so there is no reason to build any more Magic Docks. Of course, this switchover will take years and meanwhile, none of us with CCS cars in these blank areas will ever get to use a Supercharger.

CCS cars are going to be a hard sell this year with everything going to NACS next year. However, there are folks who never use public charging, just charge at home. So they don't really care.

I just bought a 23 Ioniq five. Looking forward to getting my adapter for Tesla chargers. I am fine with 100 kW of charging from 5 to 80% for the few times I will use Tesla chargers in the future. Thanks for watching the video. I also know that Tesla and Hyundai are working on allowing 800 V architecture cars to charge at full speed. I paid around 36k after Hyundai money and Colorado tax credit. I am very happy!

@@electricprincipal543 You'll get to use V4 Tesla chargers in the future for sure, there are only a few now but I bet they will accelerate that progress heavily this year and next. I expect a lot of V2 locations to be upgraded to V4 (busy ones at least!).
