My Insulated Tools Video & Rant at the End

Ғылым және технология

Sorry that I have been away for so long.
I have been wanting to make this video for several months to directly address the same question that keep coming up over and over in the comments of one of my other videos.
If you are interesting in this Set of Knipex Insulated Tools that I went over in my video. I will put a link below to them on Home Depot's website (which is about the cheapest place to get this Knipex set of Insulated Tools)

How funny, I posted this over a month ago and just today another one of the Electrical channels that I follow just posted a video reviewing this same Knipex masterset that I own and reviewed in this video. . . .but what was funny is that he had the exact same complaint that I did with regards to this master set not coming with any insulated Wire Stripper or insulated stripping knife, but instead it did come with a pair of insulated Cobra pliers that you'll never ever need.

Kingsport Tool Review.. Gary those are nice tools. I agree with you on the rant. I heard that the cheap insulated tools aren't really insulated. They are just coated to look that way. That could be a very dangerous situation.

Exactly, I did a video showing which tools I carry everyday. And I kept getting comments about not carrying any insulated tools. ....Truth is, as an industrial electrician, I have no real need to carry them everyday. We work in hot panels unless we absolutely have to.

Nice to see a well kept set of insulated tools. I have used insulated slip pliers before when glanding off an armoured cable into a live panel, but that is the only occasion.

Exactly Right. In the industrial side of the Electrical trade we almost never touch anything that is still hot. In fact, I was thinking back when the last time I actually used any of these, and honestly, it was all the way back in 2016. . . . . It is just extremely rare for us.

@@kingsporttoolreview8703 With regard to working on AC, I am pretty much the same, apart from the test for dead procedure we use, which is classified as live working in my country. The insulated tools predominantly get used on our battery backup systems and UPS.

Now I'm no expert in how the tools are tested but i believe if they carry the VDE symbol thats tested by an independent lab. So if you do by cheap, make sure it at least has that certification. I think all the others are manufacture tested. But again, id have to do more research to be sure. I should because I've always been curious about what exactly the tools are put through. And yes i never worked anything hot at the plant that I can recall.

OMG! Those are the same as Matco Tools screwdrivers. I Agree 100% with you that you should never go to Home Depot to buy a Parachute.

How do you feel about the grips? I’m considering buying either the ones you have or the blue and red grip version? Do the grips get in the way at all? And does the thickness of them bother you?

Honestly, Insulated Tools are a form of Personal protective equipment (PPE), I do not use 1000V Insulated tools unless I absolutely have to. As an Industrial Electrician we have to follow very strict OSHA Mandated Lock Out/Tag Out procedures to assure that we don't work on "Hot" wires. ...now having said that, If you're not working with Hot Electrical Circuits there there really is no reason to buy the 1000V Insulated set. Afterall the 1000V Insulation is the very reason the handles are so fat. So if you don't need insulated tools, then by all means don't waste your money on them, buy the standard handles instead.

You're very blunt and crude but you're honest. Moral to the story Don't buy your insulated tools at Harbor Freight or O'Reilly's or anyplace else that sells dirt cheap tools. Insulated tools are to be taken most serious.
