The soft boiled eggs, must put soy sauce and pepper. That’s how we locals have it. Blend a little saltiness and peppery with the kaya toast. But folks consume them without dipping the toast as well

Very heartwarming for me, a Singaporean, to know that your parents and you love our local food. Just a note - the half boiled eggs... we add a dash of dark soy sauce and ground pepper into it and stir well before we eat them. Adding dark soy sauce and pepper will take this dish a few notches higher. You can try it back in Hong Kong too. About half teaspoon of dark soy sauce and half teaspoon of ground pepper would be about there. Add more if you prefer a saltier taste. Remember to use dark soy sauce, not light soy sauce. Light soy sauce will spoil this dish as it will taste completely different. Thank you once again for your nice and pleasant video.

Half boil egg have to add soy sauce and pepper then dip with kaya toast 😊
Hi Irene, well done introducing your parents to Singapore… Hong Kong is wonderful in its own way, likewise Singapore… 👍🏻
Must put soya sauce and pepper on the egg than it tastes better. Without these, it is very bland. When kaya toast dips into it, then the saltiness and sweetness all blend in. That’s how the local eat our kaya toast!

Toast w half boiled eggs is pretty easy to DIY. It's funny how eggs and bread are common food in HK but your parents have found a new way to eat them, so happy for them.
Your parents were also quite open to trying new food, and relating them to what food they are familiar with. Good job! A large part of Singapore cuisine is our Malay, Indian, and Peranakan food. If they return, maybe you can introduce them to Nasi Lemak and Ayam Penyet. The chilli/spice are usually set aside and can easily be avoided for those who do not take spicy food. For Indian food, you could introduce them to roti prata "children's style" - with sugar (they seem to have a sweet tooth). Or Thai style (with condensed milk - though I do not know where you might find this. Sugar may be easier.) Or introduce them to naan - garlic naan, butter naan can be quite tasty on their own. Just some ideas... glad they enjoyed themselves.

It just seems that her parents were sticking to mainly more Chinese style foods and repeatedly having Kaya toast. So I don't know if they truly actually want to experience the range of cuisine that's available in Singapore anyway.
Oh they should really try the eggs with a little light soy sauce and pepper too
firstly that's not how to eat half boiled eggs in singapore or malaysia. Yes, you do dip the kayak toast inside it but you have to season the half boiled eggs with soya sauce and white pepper. that is a must!! Glad you guys enjoyed it

Hi Irene, wow didn't know they like our kaya toast so much Hope to see them come back here again soon.

Thank you for sharing your organising of your parents's trip to Singapore. Given that your mother clearly cannot take spicy food and you guys know how that eliminates most of the tastiest and most iconic dishes of Singapore, I do find that it is rather unfair for your mother to be making grand statements like food in Hong Kong is better. Of course palette-wise and maybe from a patriotism point of view I can accept that but she really hasn't tried a lot of the food here. The very fact that they had Kaya toast so many times doing such a short trip already shows they barely scratched the surface in terms of food range.
老人家可以吃是富氣!
hi, love your video. I am visiting Singapore later this year. Can you tell me the address of the Bak Kut Teh place you went? thanks!

喂 细路女! 你唔知星洲人吃《生熟蛋》,係要加些少 *黒熟油醬* ,咁至地道噶! 又可以减少哋“半熟蛋腥味”嘛!
Proper way to eat kaya toast is to eat it separately. Do not fellow what u see in social media esp those from MY TW to dip into the egg. Poached egg should be seasoned with dark soya sauce and pepper and drink it with the plate. That is the SG way.

Parents are very sporting, trying everything with enthusiasm. Most local dishes have non-spicy versions which are actually quite good. For Hong Kong tourists, cantonese and most chinese food should be quite similar to HK local food. Malay, Indian, Nonya food and their fusion versions may probably be more exotic. Options like Roti Prata with sugar, Naan with butter chicken, Mee Soto, Mee Rebus, Mee Siam, etc. Most foreign youtubers don't even try these local yet very yummy food.
